No claws for concern? Hurricane
Michael could be good news
for stone crab season.

Tampa Bay Times, by Laura Reiley

Florida stone crabs just can’t catch a break. Last year, the season started strong but traps swiftly dried up, the season limping along with very low numbers and high prices. And this year, in anticipation of Monday’s season opening, we’ve dealt with toxic blue-green algae problems, a historically long-lasting Red Tide and Hurricane Michael poised to wreak havoc on the Panhandle. A disaster for crabs, right? Not so fast. Many attribute last year’s strong start to Hurricane Irma, which hit about a month before the season opened, churning up the water and making it silty, just the way crabs prefer when

Comments:
A toxic red tide has infested Florida´s west coast from Collier County up past Pinellas. We are hoping that this terrible storm will have a couple of good side effects on the storm´s periphery. Pray for everyone in the Panhandle. It´s going to be a rough day.

Bad news is that Tallahassee Mayor Gullium, running for Governor of FL, has been on the Weather Channel this a.m. Republican candidate, Ron DeSantis, gets no such free publicity. In this razor thin race, every vote is gonna count...
Having survived a direct hit from Irma last year at 142mph, we are sending up fervent prayers for all the folks in Michael´s path.

Well if nothing else, the hurricane churned up the gulf which should get rid of the red tide. I go to Sarasota every year for spring training. Siesta Key is just assume. Just walking on the really white quartz beach is relaxing. I´ll never live there, because my wife doesn´t like hot humid weather, but going for a week is just fine.

Even though it’s still young, the transgender movement has occasioned many bizarre and horrific stories. But even in that company, the saga of Jamie Shupe stands out. Born in 1963, Shupe has been married to his wife, Sandy, for three decades; they have a daughter. He spent eighteen years (1982-2000) in the U.S. Army. In 2013 he began identifying as a transgender woman, claiming that he had struggled for years with a deep sense of being different and had been harassed in the military because he was perceived as gay. Following Brit Hume on Twitter, I learned last week that Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr had let on that the committee had found nothing to suggest collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign (tweet below, linking to this CBS News story). Now comes Ken Dilanian’s NBC News story “Senate has uncovered no direct evidence of conspiracy between Trump campaign and Russia.” Dilanian labors mightily to keep hope (in “collusion”) alive. He seeks to downplay the significance of Burr’s revelation. The investigation continues. Committee Democrats are troubled, However, Dilanian quotes Burr: “There is no factual evidence of collusion between the

Panera Bread has shuttered the last of its ideologically driven "pay what you want" restaurants. The socialist-tinged ventures were called "Panera Cares" and the higher-ups have finally figured out that "caring" is not synonymous with "viable business model." On February 15, the final Panera Cares, located in Boston, will close. The website Eater gives Panera Cares´ history and provides the company´s motivation behind the now-defunct mission: (Snip) Food insecurity? While having a pretty good idea of what the term means, I still looked it up. According to Feeding Texas, "Food insecurity offers an accepted method for measuring food deprivation."

With plenty of sunlight and no drama, Phil Mickelson finished off a 7-under 65 to win the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Monday and match the tournament record with his fifth victory. Mickelson had a three-shot lead over Paul Casey with two holes to play when it was too dark to finish Sunday night — no matter how hard Mickelson lobbied to keep going — because of delays for rain and a hail storm. Casey’s only hope was for Mickelson to make a mistake on the closing holes, and there was little chance of that. Mickelson was at his best on a

Critics attacked the fact Scientology can hire off-duty officers for security like any other local church when it is the only one with a documented policy for destroying enemies’ lives. Now that both the House and Senate have cleared Donald Trump of Democrat-inspired allegations of Russian collusion, it is worth revisiting one anecdote that escaped significant attention during the hysteria but continues to have U.S. security implications. On Wednesday, May 10, 2017, my first full day on the job as acting director of the FBI, I sat down with senior staff involved in the Russia case—the investigation into alleged ties between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. I had spoken with him the night before, in the Oval Office, when he told me he had fired James Comey. A call like this was highly unusual. Presidents do not, typically, call FBI directors.

Washington — Millions of Americans are waiting for Robert Mueller to give them the final word on whether the Trump campaign conspired with the 2016 Russian election interference effort — and whether their president is under the influence of a foreign adversary. Millions of Americans may be sorely disappointed. Unless Mueller files a detailed indictment charging members of the Trump campaign with conspiring with Russia, the public may never learn the full scope of what Mueller and his team has found — including potentially scandalous behavior that doesn´t amount to a provable crime.
