Ethanol Mandate Wastes Money, Pollutes Air,
And Ruins Cars — Don´t Expand It, End It

Ethanol: Some people have called the new plan to boost ethanol to 15% of our gasoline fuel supply a "reform" of the ethanol program. It´s not. It´s an expansion of the program, which should instead be shut down. President Trump, cutting a deal as always (that´s one of his gifts), has hit upon a compromise. Previously, gasoline makers struggled with costs when they would be forced to switch their blend seasonally from 10% ethanol to 15% ethanol, then back. Trump´s plan makes it simpler: Just make 15% the cap, and ignore the switching. Sell it year-round. Problem solved.

The ethanol mandate has had numerous harmful consequences already widely known. But probably the most disastrous has been with corn prices artificially elevated, corn has become too expensive for some world poverty relief programs to afford. So people starve because our intellectuals wanted a fake environmental benefit and alleged Midwest conservatives get the equivalent of federal welfare.

This is what politicians do, they buy votes with our money.
Why doesn´t Trump just have the IRS take the money from us and hand it to the farmers without all the pointless exercise of growing corn and making alcohol out of it? It would be a lot more efficient and honest.

A corn shortage (using it for fuel) is a corn producer´s dream. Farmers selling it to government is a money maker where beef, pork and poultry prices rise because of feed shortage.
Corn producers get less money for corn on the meat market and more for it from Big Daddy Government. It´s a scam and always has been.
Trying to clean up the ´internal combustion engine´ was one of Al Gore´s scams.
Ten American made cars/trucks today without Ethanol gasoline run cleaner than one 1965 produced car. Another side effect of Ethanol is it´s low boiling point which causes vapor lock problems. Get rid of it. NOw!

I think this is the first really political stunt to gain support for Republicans by Trump. Up until this time, it was about making everyone better off. Ethanol isn´t the answer to rising gas prices. Trump states Indy cars run on 100% ethanol. That may be true, but the engines are built to run on that stuff. Your everyday vehicle is not. Even 10% ethanol in your fuel damages the engine over time. With the price of cars and trucks going through the roof, I don´t know too many people who can afford the repairs to their cars caused by increased amounts of ethanol in the fuel. Iowa and Nebraska mega farmers may like this, but the average person is going to pay big time for this fiasco.

My understanding is that the President is using this to offset farmer angst in states where their products have been affected by the tariff tussle. I don´t like it but I don´t like losing seats to the opposition, who might likely raise it to E-20.

End it! Absolutely! Ethanol in gasoline always was a bad idea. I remember when they started using it in race cars, and the announcers must not have gotten the memo, so they admitted that the race cars had to stop for fuel more often with E-gas.

Look at how Brazil converted their entire vehicular market to sugarcane ethanol. The government subsidized it for five years, and during that time the government sat back and allowed industry to reinvest and create a sustainable market, refineries, distribution stations, and changes to engines to prevent damage. After the period of time was up, the government backed out and it worked flawlessly. Brazil´s dependence on oil is nearly zero even though they have massive oil reserves available for export. That´s the way a "socialist" government did it, whereas our "capitalist" government keeps subsidies going on and on and on so that it can be used as a political lever to get votes.

Climate Change: The output of so-called greenhouse gases continued to fall during President Trump´s initial year in office, new Environmental Protection Agency data show. This demonstrates once again the wisdom of Trump´s decision to stop listening to the global warming Chicken Littles and withdraw the U.S. from the costly and ineffective Paris Climate deal. The EPA sampled more than 8,000 large factories and found that emissions of greenhouse gases had dropped 2.7% from 2016 to 2017. Most of the decline was due to reductions in CO2.

A lot has happened since then, but mostly the U.S.´ No. 1 ranking is a result of the surprise election of Donald Trump. It´s also yet another bit of evidence for why policies truly matter. Media Bias: When the mainstream press isn´t busy putting out negative — and often false or misleading — stories about President Donald Trump, they´re equally busy burying scandals that involve Democrats. Jobs: How extraordinary is this job boom? The government says that the number of jobs available has never been higher. There were 7.14 million jobs in August ready to be filled, an increase from July´s 7.1 million, which was also a record. This is the best time in decades to be seeking a job, even if you´re unemployed. That´s the easily drawn conclusion from the Bureau of Labor Statistics´ Job Openings and Labor Turnover (JOLTs) report, which is important but gets much less attention than the monthly payroll jobs and unemployment numbers.

Taxes: Critics of the Trump tax cuts said they would blow a hole in the deficit. Yet individual income taxes climbed 6% in the just-ended fiscal year 2018, as the economy grew faster and created more jobs than expected. The Treasury Department reported this week that individual income tax collections for FY 2018 totaled $1.7 trillion. That´s up $14 billion from fiscal 2017, and an all-time high. And that´s despite the fact that individual income tax rates got a significant cut this year as part of President Donald Trump´s tax reform plan.

Monday´s filing came as Sears faced a deadline for payment of $134 million on its debt. It didn´t have the money, so it filed for protection from its creditors. So why don´t more people know about a solid plan that would cut ObamaCare premiums by a third? There´s no question that ObamaCare needs major surgery. Since it started in 2014, average premiums in the individual market have more than doubled. The number of insurers competing for consumers has collapsed. The fact that Christine Blasey Ford’s lawyers refused to release the results of her polygraph exam until the day before her testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee last month caused some suspicion. And when we finally got a look at them, a lot of Judge Kavanaugh’s supporters were confirmed in their suspicions. It turned out that Ford’s examiner, former FBI agent Jeremiah Hanafin, only asked her two relevant questions. And that’s not how most folks imagine polygraph exams are supposed to go.
