What Do The Worst-Run States

Fiscal Sanity: Which political party is better at managing taxpayer dollars? The latest ranking of states´ fiscal condition offers an unequivocal answer. For several years, the Mercatus Center at George Mason University has ranked states based on five measures of their financial condition: cash solvency, budget solvency, the ability to meet long-term spending commitments, state spending and taxes as a share of personal income, and unfunded pension liabilities and debt. And lest anything think that Mercatus — a free-market-oriented group — is fudging the numbers, note that the data used to compile these rankings

Back in 1976, I visited South Dakota, doing government research.
Their budget director proudly showed me an innovation - a rolling budget calculator.
Here is how it worked.
When there was a legislative proposal that would cost money or bring in money, the numbers were plugged in to the computer. That helped them avoid runaway costs.
It also helped that the legislature in S.D. meets just one session every two years.

Connecticut is a perfect example. Once a prosperous State with booming manufacturing and economy, Have turned into empty buildings thanks to the Democrats who run CT. High taxes, high debt terrible infrastructure, people leaving in droves same with businesses. And the winners are the Unions, wheeling and dealing with the Dem. Governors. Thank you Malloy!

My state of residence isn’t in the top five fiscally sound because of Obama’s war on coal. Look out for democrats. They intend to colonize red states with indigents, illegals and refugees. An effective method to dissuade welfare dependents is to not expand Medicaid.

Democrats are in a permanent state of dilemma. Spend until it hurts to give the gimmedat voters everything they want or not get elected. It´s an easy decision for them. The fact that it hurts the working taxpayer is of no concern.

Illinois is a bit deceiving. Don´t mistake the occasional republican governor for a genuine two (or more) party system. Madigan has had a stranglehold for decades and Illinois politics are dominated by Chicago which has been in democrat control for a century.

All last winter all we heard on every news broadcast in Maryland was about schools with no heat, broken water pipes, with asbestos, and mold. All this with Maryland spending something like $17000 per student which is the fourth highest in the country. Now the Socialist/Democrat candidate for governor is running ads blaming the current Governor a Republican for neglecting the schools which have a 2.5 billion dollar deficit. A school system and state that has been run by democrats for decades.

The worst run states are loaded with low information folks and people who consider themselves to be members of some sort of identity group. The liberal and socialist Democrats depend upon those masses to keep themselves in political power. That’s why the Democrats are pleased as punch to import through illegal and legal immigration as many foreign born poor and socialist oriented natural future Democrat voters as possible, and seed them throughout efficiently run current Republican States. Unfortunately for the last couple of decades the Republicans have allowed the Democrats get away with that, because greedy Republican supporting business interests have wanted, and continue to want, a free flow of cheap foreign labor to be able to enter the USA who they can hire at low wages, along with the fact that the cowardly Establishment Republicans have always been scared to death that if they really tried to tighten up immigration enforcement and policies that the Democrats would play the race card against them.

Energy Security: Last week, the U.S. exported more oil than we imported, for the first time in 70-plus years. And it happened not because of decades of federal "energy policies," but despite them. Since Richard Nixon was in the White House, presidents have pushed national energy plans that, they said, would reduce the country´s dependence on foreign oil. These plans all had one thing in common — they all assumed that increased domestic oil production couldn´t solve the problem. Instead, from Nixon on down, Republican and Democratic presidents declared that the only way to achieve energy independence

Un-Free Markets: New York City doesn´t like ride-sharing services. That´s been clear from the start. But recently it´s started taking action on that disdain, imposing burdensome economic restrictions on companies like Uber, Lyft and other ride-sharing companies. New Yorkers will pay dearly for it. New York´s Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) , exercising its extraordinary regulatory power, issued new "rules" this week that would mandate the Uber, Lyft and others pay their drivers a minimum of $17.22 an hour after expenses. That´s an actual per-hour hike to $27.86 an hour.

Climate Change: Three years after leaders from around the world signed on to the Paris climate agreement, pledging to cut their carbon footprints, global CO2 emissions accelerated. Does anyone still think President Donald Trump was wrong for pulling the U.S. out of this sham agreement? According to the Global Carbon Project, which monitors this, global CO2 emissions climbed by 1.6% last year. They are on track to shoot up by 2.7% this year. That´s after three years of annual emissions remaining flat.

Immigration Reform: Just how much do non-U. S. citizens cost the rest of the country? Plenty, if you believe census data looking at welfare and the uninsured in America. Those data show that noncitizens are almost twice as likely to get welfare benefits, and more than three times as likely to be uninsured. Recently, the Center for Immigration Studies poured through Census poverty and welfare data and found that a shockingly high percentage of noncitizens are getting some sort of welfare benefit from the federal government.

Subsidies: President Trump´s economic adviser Larry Kudlow says subsidies for electric cars and other renewable energy programs might soon be eliminated. That would be a major victory on the road to energy freedom. National Economic Council chief Kudlow, a well-known free marketeer and supply-sider, said subsidies might disappear as soon as 2020 — interestingly, the next presidential election year. The decision comes after General Motors — the beneficiary of $2,500-$7,000 tax credits for those who buy GM´s plug-in cars, not to mention two separate corporate tax cuts

Health Reform: What´s the biggest concern in the country right now? Health care costs. That tells you everything you need to know about how ObamaCare failed to deliver on its central promise. The latest IBD/TIPP poll shows that health care costs rank at the top of the list of priorities the public has for the new Congress when it convenes in January. Fully 22% listed this as their highest priority and another 18% listed it is their second highest. That´s above immigration, economy/jobs, or national security.

The public wants the new Congress to focus on three areas when it convenes next year: health care costs, immigration, and jobs. Few, however, want the Democratically controlled House to make investigating the Trump White House a priority. That´s the finding of the latest IBD/TIPP poll. The poll also found that President Trump´s approval rating dipped to 39% in the wake of his party´s midterm election losses. That´s down a point from last month. Fifty-five percent say they disapprove of how Trump is handling his job, which is up two points from last month.

Hollywood´s a bit inconsistent when the topic is the press. It was a righteous guardian of the truth against the Catholic Church in "Spotlight" and against Richard Nixon in "The Post." The rest of the headline asks “But What Does It Mean?” Good question. It may mean that the prosecutors haven’t found a crime, but are still pi**ed off that Trump won the election. This paves the way for land to be taken from farmers without giving any kind of compensation. A deadline of the end of March next year for the committee to present its first report to parliament has also been agreed. His Irish-only bill was quietly pushed through the House on November 28 without a recorded vote by legislators. It is now awaiting approval by the U.S. Senate — but the outsourcing and amnesty bill will be blocked if even one U.S. senator privately or publicly notifies GOP Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that he or she will oppose the measure.
