2020 Senate map is not
easy for Democrats either

Washington Examiner, by Philip Klein

Original Article

Though Democrats are poised to make significant gains in the House next month, thanks to a Senate map that´s put them on the defensive in disproportionately red states, Republicans are still odds on favorites to maintain control of the upper chamber. Should they come up short this time, it may be natural to look toward 2020, when they hope an unpopular incumbent President Trump could weigh down Republicans, and bring Democrats unified control of Washington. While this is of course possible, it´s worth noting that the 2020 Senate map is not particularly easy for Democrats, either. On paper

Comments:
Peeking ahead. The problem for Dems is their support is a mile deep but an inch wide. There are a lot more Red states than Blue states. No wonder Dems want CA and NY to have a half-dozen Senators.

Problems for the Dems are states with a Republican majority, but a Democratic Senator.

- Florida (R+2)
- Indiana (R+9)
- Missouri (R+9)
- Montana (R+11)
- North Dakota (R+16)
- Ohio (R+3)
- West Virginia (R+20)

Pollsters have every state except North Dakota listed as tossups or leaning Democrat.

Pollsters have Arizona, Tennessee, and Texas listed as tossups.

Same pollsters have Utah as a shoe-in for the Republican (Mitt Romney).

Prove to me these pollsters are impartial. I just don´t see it.

It´s funny that that ´unpopular´ president can´t accommodate crowds at his rallies, greater than the sum total of the crowd that Booker ´wowed´ in Iowa. Another wishful thinking article, going nowhere.

Washington - The race is starting so early, and the field is so crowded, that announcing you are not running for president is now a news event. In the past week, Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York; Deval Patrick, the former governor of Massachusetts; and Michael Avenatti, lawyer for the pornographic actor Stormy Daniels, have all dropped out of contention for the 2020 Democratic nomination. (Snip) But things could get messy, Zogby warned. “The danger here is the party could explode with identity politics and the liberal/progressive split. Do you have to have a woman on the ticket? Do

ABC News’ livestream of President George H. W. Bush’s funeral Wednesday took an uncomfortable turn when the panelists joked about President Trump’s future funeral. “It will be the best presidential funeral ever,” ABC correspondent Terry Moran said. “No one will ever have seen anything like that funeral.” The exchange started when Moran, a veteran ABC News anchor, argued that Trump’s election was a “repudiation of much of what George Herbert Walker Bush and George Walker Bush stood for because the people who voted him wanted that repudiation.” Moran went on to say that Trump is “an expression of the

DAKAR, Senegal — The second-largest Ebola outbreak in history has spread to a major city in eastern Congo, as health experts worry whether the stock of an experimental vaccine will stand up to the demands of an epidemic with no end in sight. Butembo, with more than 1 million residents, is now reporting cases of the deadly hemorrhagic fever. That complicates Ebola containment work already challenged by rebel attacks elsewhere that have made tracking the virus almost impossible in some isolated villages. “We are very concerned by the epidemiological situation in the Butembo area,” said John Johnson, project coordinator

Paris´s Eiffel Tower will close on Saturday over fears of fresh violence during nationwide protests against President Emmanuel Macron, as police urged shops and restaurants on the Champs-Elysees to shut their doors too. Around a dozen museums across the capital have also said they will remain closed on Saturday after vandalism and clashes between protesters and police last week rocked France. The announcements came as around 200 high schools across the country remained blocked or disrupted by students protesting a raft of education overhauls, on a fourth day of action called to coincide with the anti-government demonstrations. California lawmakers on Wednesday officially approved a measure that mandates all homes built in the Golden State in 2020 and beyond be solar-powered. The new standards were approved earlier this year and voted on unanimously by the California Building Standards Commission, the Orange County Register reported. Officials heralded the move as a “historical undertaking” that “will be a beacon of light for the rest of the country.” The provisions add an estimated $10,000 to the cost of building a single-family home – including more than $8,400 for installing solar and roughly $1,500 for energy efficiency. Prominent journalists gathered this week to discuss why President Trump sits in the White House and came to the following conclusion: “Gullible” voters and “unfair” coverage — toward Democrat Hillary Clinton — are to blame. The Recode Decode podcast this week featured NBC’s Chuck Todd, Andrea Mitchell, and Hallie Jackson talking about the state of American politics. They told host Kara Swisher that Mr. Trump’s campaign tricked the former secretary of state into responding to non-issues while stupid voters took care of the rest on Election Day. “I knew the gaslighting was out there,” Mr. Todd told the panel Dec. 5

Urs Gehriger, an editor at “Die Weltwoche,” Switzerland’s leading German-language opinion weekly, noted that Carlson’s new book, “Ship of Fools,” is silent on Trump but comments on his critics. And so, Gehriger jump-started the conversation by asking what Carlson thought of Trump’s first two years in office. Carlson said he cannot stand Trump’s self-aggrandizement and boasting. An elementary school principal in Nebraska was placed on leave after telling teachers to avoid decorating their classrooms with Christmas-themed ornaments so as not to offend those who don’t celebrate the holiday. The principal at Manchester Elementary School, identified by Fox affiliate KPTM as Jennifer Sinclair, sent out a memo earlier this week with guidelines as to what is considered appropriate for classroom decorations and assignments. Teachers reportedly were told that generic winter-themed items, such as sledding and scarves, and the “Frozen” character Olaf, were acceptable.
