Roy Orbison hologram concert
in L.A. invites awe and debate

Los Angeles Times, by Wendy Lee

In the darkened Wiltern theater in Los Angeles, hundreds of people couldn’t wait to see legendary rocker Roy Orbison. A live orchestra pumped up the crowd with a medley of his hits. Old photos of him flashed across a giant screen. Then, the crooner appeared to rise magically from the stage, wearing his signature light grey suit, black shades and jamming on a red Gibson guitar to his 1960 hit “Only the Lonely.” Fans screamed as they quickly positioned their smartphones to record the spectral image. “This is as good as seeing him in person as you’ll ever get,”

There is video.

This is amazing stuff....now if something could be invented to make some of these dems DISAPPEAR....that would be more spectacular.

Ballot box? That would work if there weren´t so many being stuffed by the opposition !!!

Bring back Ronald Reagan, our virtual President. Give him a trial run at the Library and then on the road. He could endorse some candidates and condemn others. Do a one man show.

Now that´s awesome!

It is an amazing technology, but they need to do one more thing i.e. sync up the imagery with the ambient stage lighting to merge the hologram into the environment.

Then they´ll really have it nailed.

Why is this technology limited to just celebrities? Couldn´t I come back in hologram form and haunt my kids?
How cool would it be if my grands could say, "Hey! Let´s pull grammachillijilli up for a few minutes before dinner..."
Could happen. 40 years ago I never would´ve thought that I´d be sitting here tapping on a keyboard connecting with thousands of people I don´t know from around the world.

There is one born every minute all right.
By all appearance, this is also not a hologram. It appears to be an image projected on a gauze. I do not discount the technical feat as doing that in a live, large environment with people behind it is a significant challenge.

Roy Orbison had an unique singing talent. Even, the King of Rock and Roll claimed Orbison had a better voice. Elvis was a great song stylist. The soaring voice of Roy Orbison will live on forever. BTW, When Roy told Elvis he was having chest pains, Elvis told him to see a doctor. Sadly, Roy didn´t take his advice. I am glad I was alive during Roy´s career.

Whoever advised Senator Warren that releasing her DNA results would put to rest the controversy over her claimed Native American ancestry should be fired. Rather than settle the matter once and for all, the results have raised more questions about the presumptive presidential candidate’s integrity with respect to matters of race and ethnicity. According to her own hired expert, Warren had an indigenous ancestor “in the range of 6-10 generations ago.” This makes her, at best, 1/64th indigenous, and possibly as little as 1/1024th. Further, it is unclear whether this strain comes from an indigenous ancestor

Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings jolted Republican enthusiasm. The July 22 NPR/PBS News House/Marist poll, for example, found that 78% of Democrats and only 68% of Republicans considered this midterm “very important.” By October, the same poll showed the Democrats’ edge had mostly evaporated: 82% of Democrats and 80% of Republicans called the elections “very important.” There was a similar change in the generic ballot. In the Sept. 12 Quinnipiac poll, voters preferred Democrats to Republicans for the House by 52% to 38%. Jump to Oct. 2 and the same survey finds

One of the top 10 movie openings last weekend has been met with a media blackout. The film is a gripping courtroom drama reminiscent of "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" — only this is a true story, and the special victims are the hundreds, if not thousands, of late-term babies that real life Dr. Kermit Gosnell delivered alive and killed in his filthy abortion clinic in Philadelphia.(Snip)Tragically, there are other Gosnell-type abortionists operating today with impunity. Much of what Gosnell did illegally is being done legally in other states that do not have Pennsylvania’s 24-week abortion limit.

The plea for Tab came across in a message on Facebook. It was Sept. 27, and Anne White saw a post from a neighbor telling her their local grocery store in Cincinnati had been stripped of the diet soda, last popular in the 1980s and now a cult favorite. “I drank my last one a few days ago and I’m suffering from withdrawal,” the neighbor wrote. “Where are you guys getting it?” Ms. White, 56, had 10 cans stashed in a cupboard and agreed to leave them on the porch. The next morning, two were gone.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein doesn´t give many press interviews. But he did, on Wednesday, invite a Wall Street Journal reporter to the Justice Department for what the Journal called an "expansive" conversation. Rosenstein talked about the Robert Mueller Trump-Russia special counsel investigation, calling it "appropriate and independent." He stressed that he serves at the pleasure of the president. He said he tries to avoid media speculation about both the investigation and his job. Rosenstein had time to discuss a lot of things. One thing apparently not mentioned in the interview was the fact that, at that very moment,

(Snip)Monica Lewinsky was a 24-year-old White House intern at the time of her affair with President Clinton. He was 51. There are vital differences between behavior that constitutes sexual assault and actions that are abuses of power, of which having an affair with an intern many leagues your junior when you are the most powerful man in the world is obviously one.

By now, Prospect readers probably know the basic story of the demise of Sears. The company that pioneered the 20th-century version of e-commerce—the catalog—did not succumb to 21st-century innovations like Amazon and Walmart. Rather, it was dismantled piece by piece by Eddie Lampert, the hedge fund titan (and former Yale roommate of Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin) who purchased it in 2005. Lampert and his hedge fund engaged in relentless financial engineering to suck out all the value from Sears and leave a desiccated husk, which now could face possible liquidation in bankruptcy.

Some Democrats are trying furiously to push back against a New York Times article reporting what’s been patently clear for years to any honest observer: The party is abandoning its support of Israel. “Senate Democrats are very strongly pro-Israel and will remain that way,” declared Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. Would that it were so. In fact, as the Times noted, several Democratic candidates, including some of the party’s rising stars, are running on blatantly anti-Israel platforms. This reflects the rapid leftward hurtle of the ever-more-dominant Democratic base: A 2016 Pew poll found that liberal Democrats, who’d favored Israel

The only reason why the battle over the supposed Native American ancestry of Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., continues to generate headlines is identity politics. If we had spent the last 50 years moving toward character instead of skin color as a much more sensible way to define ourselves, would anyone outside of her family and friends care about Warren’s heritage? Why should they? But sadly, we do not live in such an America. The temptation of identity politics always laid in its promise to lead us to a more racially equitable society by uplifting impoverished and underrepresented Americans.

Mr. Trump stirred the pot this week when he told the Associated Press he’s not on the ballot and, while he’s been able to boost some candidates in Republican primaries, he won’t bear responsibility if they lose control of the House. “No, I think I’m helping people,” he said. He later complained about the headline the Associated Press slapped its piece, saying it was taken out of context.
