Crews remove controversial statue

San Francisco - As drums beat and people chanted in the background, early Friday morning crews began taking down a controversial statue in San Francisco´s Civic Center because critics and Native Americans had long complained it harkened to the country´s racist past. The San Francisco Board of Appeals voted unanimously Wednesday night to remove the "Early Days" statue. It depicts a Native American at the feet of a Spanish cowboy and a Catholic missionary. It had been in its location for 124 years. Activists have argued for decades that the statue is racist and demeaning to indigenous people. They renewed

Comments:
Nude men having sex in the streets with strangers is perfectly inoffensive. Streets crawling with homeless people who defecate on the sidewalks demeans no one. But a statue depicting various migrants must go, even though the cowboy bears a passing resemblance to the one from the Village People.

The leftist totalitarians are slowly rewriting and erasing history.

Bit by bit, they rewrite it, rename it, erase it.

You could say this started far far away. We saw the results in China where the Cultural Revolution goons had attempted to destroy everything that remained of one of the most ancient of cultures. Beautiful pagodas paved in bright colored tiles - one could see all of those tiles broken off to the height of what an average sized person could reach. Statues with arms and heads smashed off. And on and on.

We were there in the mid-80s when the country was just allowing in a few travelers from the West. Our private tour of two was sponsored by the HSBC. We saw the damage that had been done. Then, at Xian we saw the amazing terracotta army, found under a peasant farmer’s field. We wondered if it was real or some sort of government concoction, an elaborate attempt to attract tourists when so very many things tourists would have wanted to see had been badly damaged or destroyed.

This kind of malicious denial of history should not be sponsored by any level of our government.

I think it should be replaced with a sculpture depicting the true west. Settlers inviting native americans over for afternoon tea. That´s the way it really was. You can try, but you can´t erase the the past.

Pack of liberal ostriches. They could have pointed to that statue for generations, saying g, "This is where we came from. This was our past, but now we´re better than that."

Instead, they remove it, ignore it, pretend it never existed - and why?

So people will forget, and they can enslave them, again. Those who don´t learn from history... are eaten alive by Liberal Wolves.

Re: #12 - How far back do we go and how accurate must we be to decide who raped and killed whom the first-est and the most-est? As the Europeans and Natives were both Homo Sapiens, the same species that murdered its living God, there was lots of ugliness all around when those cultures clashed and it neither started nor ended in California. These silly statue and team mascot controversies by and large are embarrassing to those of direct Native descent and are seldom, if ever, generated by the very descendants the progressives purport to "represent." It is but a weak, tired ploy to attack all things American. I must confess that when I read the article about being "at the feet of a Spanish cowboy and a Catholic missionary,´ I my first thought was, "BS, they´d be hanging upside down by those feet over a small fire to soften up before feeding to the hogs."
