Fact Check: Trump is Right About
Puerto Rico, Critics Manipulating
Hurricane Maria Death ‘Estimates’

Breitbart Big Government, by Joel B. Pollak

Original Article

Posted By:earlybird, 9/14/2018 10:26:19 AM

Democrats and the media have been pounding President Donald Trump over the past few days, as Hurricane Florence nears the Carolinas, over his alleged insensitivity to deaths in Puerto Rico last year from Hurricane Maria. On Thursday morning, President Trump pushed back on Twitter, alleging that Democrats had inflated the death toll “in order to make me look as bad as possible.” That led to more criticism, with the Associated Press accusing Trump of making claims “without evidence.” But Trump is correct.

Context can be everything. In this case, when one knew the context in which President Trump was given his numbers - he asked a Puerto Rican official for information and they responded - what happened afterward is pretty transparent.

Well look at the yearly death rate for the primitive island of Puerto Rico which is probably about 8-9 persons per thousand out of a total population of 3.5 or so million people. If that is so, Puerto Rico can naturally expect about 3,000 or more deaths to occur among the population of Puerto Rico each year in any event.

President Trump and his Democrat foes are talking two different numbers. Trump said that when he was in Puerto Rico right after the hurricane hit the island that the Puerto Rico government reported to him that there had been 8-16 deaths during the hurricane. The Democrats are now saying that well over 2,000 people died on Puerto Rico during a six to twelve month period following the hurricane and attribute that to Trump running an incompetent federal response to the hurricane. Trump says that the Democrat claims are false and are totally political in fact.

Following the hurricane it was the responsibility of the government of Puerto Rico to care for the population there, and if they needed help in doing that they should have requested further assistance from the federal government. What assistance did the Puerto Rico government ask the Trump Administration to provide them that was denied? The Democrats have not provided those facts. So whose to say that the vast majority of the deaths reported for a year after the hurricane were to be expected as they were within or near the normal yearly death rate on Puerto Riuco.

It is not Trump who has politicized the weather, it is the Democrats.

KSFO was discussing this early AM; the 3000 figure was a computer-generated model including the deaths several months after the hurricane hit. When Snopes was consulted, it completely and deliberately misled viewers about Trump´s comments.

Where do you go to fact-check any more? Almost all these checkers are biased.

I want NAMES OF REAL PEOPLE and proof that they are dead - like a grave marker, or a death certificate.

Otherwise, it is all a politically inspired lie.

Once again, the Enemedia goes into hysterics when Trump pushes back and Trump is proven to be right, they are proven to be pumping Fake News.

And then it is "Trump attacking the media".

What say you Speaker Paul Ryan ? I would say that Ron DeSantos best do some fast apologies too. The Republicans quoted bending over to the Puerto Rican voters in Florida made them look just like Democrats. As Lou Dobbs and Ed Rollins said last night, DeSantos owes his very existence on the ballot to President Trump and him alone. Ryan is beyond despicable. Trump was right about those inflated death numbers. The TRUTH matters.

Some tedious math. (simply because I love tedious math.)
Population of PR is 3.4 million people.
Assume average lifespan of P.Ricans is 80 years. (That´s what Google says but seems high.)
Average means 80 is the half way point so half are dead by age 80.
In order for half of the 3.4 million to die by age 80 you must have 21k people die each year. (3.4 million/2/80 = 21k)

And in fact it has to be more than that because even though 80 is the average for the next 10 years after 80 most of the rest die in far less than 80 additional years. In other words most are dead by 90.

So redoing the math:
Let´s say all 3.4 million die by 90.
(Which is pretty close to reality)
3.4 / 90 = 38k people die per year.

My point is the claim that 3k died from the hurricane is a very small portion of how many must normally die each year anyway. So how do they determine how many died from the hurricane by examining the death records? Did they also examine the coroners report for each person? I doubt that. I doubt that those reports even exist. How do you distinguish normal deaths from Hurricane deaths?
The best way is the police reports about people who were found dead due to the activities of the hurricane. And that´s the number that Trump uses. And it´s the only one that makes sense.

Good job, #10.

Write it up in Fortran or Basic and it is a far better computer model than the ones they are quoting.

And, for the period of the storm, let´s be really generous and call it 36 hours, 1.5 days.

38,000 per year works out to 104 per day. 1.5 days is a normal death rate of 156 over a day and a half.br>
They added in all the deaths for a couple of months. Total malfeasance and misfeasance.

Disinformation, pure and simple.

The media is asking the wrong question about the Michael Flynn case. They are asking whether Flynn lied or the FBI acted improperly, as if the answers to those two questions are mutually exclusive. The possibility that both are true, in that Flynn did not tell the truth and that the FBI acted improperly, is not considered in our hyper partisan world where everyone, including the media, chooses a side and refuses to consider the chance that their side is not perfectly right and the other side not perfectly evil. The first casualty of hyper partisanship is nuance.

Tani Cantil-Sakauye, chief justice of the California Supreme Court, is giving up her Republican Party registration. The cause, she explained, was the confirmation hearings for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. But Cantil-Sakauye was not disturbed by the sleazy charges Democrats unleashed against the Trump nominee, which evidently she believed. Instead, California’s chief justice wondered why Republicans would bring in a female prosecutor to question Christine Blasey Ford. Perhaps to find out if her story that a drunken Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her was true or false? Though that is hardly all this jurist doesn’t get.

Apparently the Bungler knows this as well because today he had two associates of Flynn arrested on charges unrelated to President Trump, General Flynn, or Russian collusion. Mueller´s conduct in this witch hunt would give Cotton Mather pause. The press chases this squirrel because reporters and their bosses know Mueller needs cover.

Neoconservatism is dead, long live American conservatism. That’s what I thought when I learned The Weekly Standard would be shuttered by longtime owner Clarity Media. The Standard was a creature of a particular time and place—the 1990s, the Bush-Clinton ascendancy, and Washington, D.C.’s insular, self-referential political class. As such, it never really fit within the broad flow of historic American conservatism. It was always, and intentionally, something different. So perhaps the magazine’s opposition to Donald Trump, his voters, and the America First agenda should come as no surprise. Max Boot described the magazine as “a redoubt of neoconservatism” in 2002
