Paul Manafort may have struck a

President Trump’s ex-campaign chair Paul Manafort tentatively agreed to a plea deal with special counsel Robert Mueller that will head off his upcoming second trial, ABC News reported Thursday. The feds were expected to announce the agreement in court Friday, but it remained uncertain whether the international man of intrigue had agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in the Russia probe. The network said Manafort could be pleading guilty to avoid the stress and expens

Exceedingly odd - why not make such an agreement before the first trial?

In other words, the Post’s writer hasn’t a clue. A highly speculative article that tells us nothing.

Fredericks’s bias is also showing. Tsk,tsk.

I could be convinced to take the deal.

Then maybe write a book.

Plea deals are for the innocent and the guilty. Explained to me one time by a defense attorney.

President Trump should pardon, or at least commute the sentences, of everyone convicted of something because of their association with himself.

Manafort is a good example. The FBI declined to prosecute him, for his alleged crimes, years ago. Now, since he is associated with the President, they decide to prosecute, in the hopes they can get something on the President. This is not fair, just, or ethical!

Seventeen Democrats will formally promise on Monday to vote against Nancy Pelosi´s bid to be House speaker, a move the defectors hope will deny her the speaker’s gavel and force her to step aside. In a letter that will be sent to their Democratic colleagues, the 17 Democrats pledge to oppose Pelosi in the caucus and floor votes for speaker. The move to oust Pelosi comes two weeks after Democrats seized control of the House with their largest majority since 1974. “We promised to change the status quo and we intend to deliver on that promise,”

Why Democrats Should Not Call the

Many Democrats are understandably angry about efforts to suppress the vote in Georgia and elsewhere in the 2018 midterm elections. In the Peach State, there is no question that Gov.-elect Brian Kemp, while secretary of state, made it harder for minority and other voters to register and vote, through a combination of deliberate efforts and gross incompetence. He administered what I consider to be the most egregious partisan action by an election official in the modern era when he falsely accused the Georgia Democratic Party of hacking into the state election system,

With his investiture ceremony Thursday, Brett Kavanaugh is finally, formally Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. But the fight over his nomination goes on. The battle is not being fought by Democratic dead-enders who cannot accept that Kavanaugh won confirmation despite the sexual misconduct allegations against him. Instead, the fight is being led by Sen. Charles Grassley, the Republican chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, who is still angry at the way those unverified and in some cases evidence-free allegations sidetracked his committee´s work, and nearly the nomination itself.

The economy is booming, the story goes, but President Trump won´t talk about it at his massive rallies, preferring instead to dwell on illegal immigration, the caravan, and "fear." Republicans, locked in tough re-election races, are tearing their hair out, panicked, at Trump´s refusal to emphasize the nation´s economic progress, which is their strongest campaign pitch. It has been speculated that Mitt Romney’s Utah Senate seat could serve as a prelude to another Presidential run. In the most ambitious version of events, he could even challenge Donald Trump in the 2020 primaries, newly legitimized and augmented by his actions in the Capitol Building. This would allow moderate Republicans to reclaim their party’s mantle and unroot alt-right influences. But would Romney do it? His willingness to unequivocally challenge Trump could be seen either as a pro or con by Republicans, depending on their opinions of the sitting president.

To look back at the moment John Kerry entered US public life, addressing the Senate foreign relations committee on 22 April 1971, is to be struck by many things. There are the famous words, of course: “How do you ask a man to be the last man to die in Vietnam? How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?” There is the shock of dark, Beatles-inspired hair, the distinctly British-tinged accent. Above all, there is the self-possession. Championing the cause of the poor, Pope Francis on Sunday lamented that "the wealthy few" enjoy what, "in justice, belongs to all" and said Christians cannot remain indifferent to the growing cries of the exploited and the indigent, including migrants. Francis invited about 6,000 poor people as well as some of the volunteers who help them to the splendor of St. Peter´s Basilica where he celebrated Mass on a day the Catholic Church dedicates to the needy. Later, he sat down with 1,500 of the indigent for a lunch of lasagna, chicken, mashed potatoes and tiramisu in a Vatican auditorium.
