Verizon Just Destroyed The
Case For ´Net Neutrality´

Regulations: Verizon started letting people sign up for its new wireless 5G Home high-speed internet service this week. It doesn´t just mark the start of the next internet revolution. It obliterates the case for net-neutrality regulations. On Tuesday, Verizon said that people can start signing up now for its 5G Home, with service starting on Oct. 1 in Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles and Sacramento, Calif. Speeds will, the company says, be as fast as 1 Gbps, which is about as fast as Verizon´s FIOS gets. It´s more than 10 times faster than what the average home gets today. What´s different

At the moment I use Xfinity because no one else in South Florida can provide a faster internet. The downside is that I am also tied in to their expensive cable tv packages. I would love to cut the cable and go with something like Youtube Tv. Going totally wireless and getting high speed IS the future. Hope I live long enough.

At the end of the article, after speaking about how government regulations have previously stifled innovation, the author says the following: "Why innovators like Google and Facebook can´t understand any of this is a complete mystery."

There is no mystery. They fully understand it and want government regulations to stifle innovation because, now that they have gotten to the top, innovation is more likely to hurt them than to help them.

It will take decades to wire (fiber) the whole country: about as long as it takes technology to advance by leaps and gigabits.

No one has assessed the health impact of widespread wireless 5G. In NY I have wired 5G on Fios.

From what I´ve read, it´s effects are a lot different than standard wireless speeds. I´d like to wait on this one.

Comcast is best at raising prices continuously. How else can they fund all of their purchases? Anti-trust, fraud, etc, is they name, Comcast. Ma Bell was broken up into 5 baby Bells. It´s time to break up Comcast and Amazon.

Big Government: Leading Democrats are pushing an agenda that would more than double the size of the federal government. This comes as a new Gallup Poll finds that the public views government as the most important problem facing the country today. Gallup regularly asks what are the biggest problems facing the country today. The latest shows "government" well in the lead, with "immigration" No. 2. Another Gallup poll finds that, despite all the focus on left-wing celebrities like Alexandria Ocasio Cortez

Deep State: We´ve been saying for some time now that the entire investigation of Donald Trump for "colluding" with the Russians smelled like Deep State sabotage. Now, former associate Attorney General Bruce Ohr has confirmed that´s true. If so, these are criminal acts. The only question is, what do we do now? Both the Justice Department and FBI have maintained they didn´t really know that Trump Dossier compiler Christopher Steele had any bias at all against Trump. And, even when they got their hands on Steele´s unverified dossier on Trump, they claim they didn´t know that S

Airport Security: In their constant search for shutdown-related disasters, the media are now fixated on airport screeners. The shutdown is wreaking havoc on airports, they say. Except that it isn´t. The shutdown does, however, present an opportunity to re-privatize the troublesome TSA. News reports focus on the fact that TSA worker no-shows are up from a year ago. But the TSA´s own data show that wait times haven´t changed. Its latest report finds that "99.9% of passengers waited less than 30 minutes and 95.4% of passengers waited less than 15 minutes."

The worst thing about the government shutdown isn´t the — minimal — harm it´s causing. It´s all the misplaced hand-wringing about federal workers, most of whom are overpaid and underworked, and all whom will get their back pay once government reopens. As the shutdown goes on, news accounts of the alleged suffering of federal workers mount. They´re lining up at food banks! They´re forced to take odd jobs, or rent rooms out on Airbnb! They need help!

Brexit: Don´t be confused by Britain´s Brexit vote. The parliamentary loss by British Prime Minister Theresa May´s Brexit plan is a defeat for her, not for Britain´s ultimate pullout from the failed EU. Brexit, at this late hour, remains very much alive. The deal that May struck with the EU, after nearly 18 months of non-stop talks, satisfied almost no one. For Britain´s hard-left Labor Party, leaving the increasingly socialist EU was never on the agenda. So any Brexit deal, of any sort, would not be satisfactory.

Enumeration: This week, U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman ordered the Trump administration to drop its plan to add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census form. Whatever the legal merits of Furman´s decision, the public policy arguments against adding this question back to the Census make no sense. In his decision, released on Tuesday, Furman ruled that Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross violated the Administrative Procedures Act when he decided to include a citizenship question on the Census form. He said Ross didn´t adequately "consider all important aspects of a problem;

Deep State: It´s now beyond any reasonable doubt that Obama administration minions launched an all-out effort to destroy, first, President Trump´s presidential campaign and, when that failed, his presidency. The only question is, knowing the truth, will the Justice Department charge these people with crimes? The whole concern over "Russian interference" with the 2016 election was little more than a smokescreen for a much wider effort to go after Donald Trump. And that´s not us talking, but the New York Times. A Times report titled "F.B.I. Opened Inquiry into Whether Trump was Secretly Working on Behalf of Russia"

With no end in sight to the partial shutdown of the government, President Trump hasn´t convinced a majority of the public to back his position on the border wall at the center of the budget impasse. The latest IBD/TIPP poll shows that 53% of the public opposes construction of a wall along the southern border of the U.S. It found that 46% support the wall. Trump has managed to change some minds, however. Overall support for the wall climbed by three points since IBD/TIPP last polled on this question just before the November midterm elections.

Minimum Wage: New York City is one of a number of locales that increased its minimum wage to $15 an hour in the New Year. Already, early reports say, small businesses are struggling. Expect this to become a common refrain across the country. With the celebratory ringing in of the New Year, some 21 states, the nation´s capital and a growing number of cities across the country will impose a distinctly non-celebratory cost on their small businesses: A mandatory increase in the minimum wage. Of course, some of the minimum wage hikes won´t be much. But some will.

The federal government shutdown has presented a unique opportunity for President Donald Trump to clear out the deadwood in the federal bureaucracy, saving U.S. taxpayers billions of dollars in salaries, perks, and rented office space for people who aren´t doing anything productive. A near majority of Republicans do not have a favorable view of freshman Senator Willard “Mitt” Romney (R-UT), according to a PBS NewsHour/NPR/Marist poll released on Thursday. The poll, conducted January 10-13, found 48% of “Republicans and conservative-leaning” have an “unfavorable” view Romney. Just 29% view Romney favorably while another 23% are “unsure” or “never heard” of him. Never Trumpers like Bill Kristol have said Romney is now the “leader of the Republican Resistance to” President Donald Trump, and the PBS NewsHour/NPR/Marist poll again shows how unpopular of a label that is among Republicans.

Country music is the most American of musical idioms, alongside jazz. With a longer history than rock and roll or hip-hop, country has produced a powerful pantheon of memorable artists, albums, and songs. Growing up, I pretended not to like country music, even though it was the music I heard my dad listen to the most (while my mom turned me on to the incredible pop and rock of the ‘60s and ‘70s). Nowadays, I’ve shaken that youthful pretension and will admit to enjoying most types of country’s many subgenres. I also have to admit that compiling a list

Should you believe in a God? All the discord and vitriol in our culture boils down to how you would answer. Border walls, gay marriage, abortion, national defense, school choice -- where you stand on these issues and the myriad others comprising our daily tussle is for the most part defined by how you answer this question. Your answer, yeah or nay, draws a very hard line. The professional philosopher John G.
