Verizon Just Destroyed The
Case For ´Net Neutrality´

Regulations: Verizon started letting people sign up for its new wireless 5G Home high-speed internet service this week. It doesn´t just mark the start of the next internet revolution. It obliterates the case for net-neutrality regulations. On Tuesday, Verizon said that people can start signing up now for its 5G Home, with service starting on Oct. 1 in Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles and Sacramento, Calif. Speeds will, the company says, be as fast as 1 Gbps, which is about as fast as Verizon´s FIOS gets. It´s more than 10 times faster than what the average home gets today. What´s different

At the moment I use Xfinity because no one else in South Florida can provide a faster internet. The downside is that I am also tied in to their expensive cable tv packages. I would love to cut the cable and go with something like Youtube Tv. Going totally wireless and getting high speed IS the future. Hope I live long enough.

At the end of the article, after speaking about how government regulations have previously stifled innovation, the author says the following: "Why innovators like Google and Facebook can´t understand any of this is a complete mystery."

There is no mystery. They fully understand it and want government regulations to stifle innovation because, now that they have gotten to the top, innovation is more likely to hurt them than to help them.

It will take decades to wire (fiber) the whole country: about as long as it takes technology to advance by leaps and gigabits.

No one has assessed the health impact of widespread wireless 5G. In NY I have wired 5G on Fios.

From what I´ve read, it´s effects are a lot different than standard wireless speeds. I´d like to wait on this one.

Comcast is best at raising prices continuously. How else can they fund all of their purchases? Anti-trust, fraud, etc, is they name, Comcast. Ma Bell was broken up into 5 baby Bells. It´s time to break up Comcast and Amazon.

It´s Facebook´s turn — again. A major, multipart New York Times´ exposé charges that senior executives of the social media platform, previously in hot water over charges of censoring conservative content and the Cambridge Analytica data scandal, used a pattern of "delay, deny and deflect" to "conceal" that its "power could … be exploited to disrupt elections, broadcast viral propaganda and inspire deadly campaigns of hate around the globe." Yikes.

Market Turmoil Shows Why Trump´s
Pro-Growth Policies Must Continue

Economy: Starting next year, Democrats in the House will block any action by the Trump administration to expand his pro-growth economic agenda. The recent turmoil in the market and increased recession talk should change their minds. But they won´t. On Tuesday, reporters asked President Trump´s top economic advisor, Larry Kudlow, about the worrisome economic signs we´re seeing lately. The stock market drop zapped $1 trillion in combined market value of the big-five tech companies, and erased the Dow´s gains for the year. Oil prices have been in decline.

California Gov. Jerry Brown Issues Another

Climate Alarmism: Mark your calendars. In five years, everyone will believe the global warming doomsday scenarios repeated ad nauseam by environmentalists. That´s according to California Gov. Jerry Brown. More likely, it be another in a long line of climate change "tipping points" that never arrive. On CBS´s "Face the Nation" over the weekend, Brown went on at length about how global warming was behind the recent deadly California wildfires. Even though he also admitted that Trump was right that bad forest management played a role.

Media Bias: President Donald Trump says he´s drafting rules of decorum for White House reporters in the wake of the lawsuit involving CNN´s aggressively misbehaving reporter Jim Acosta. Funny how unruly press behavior never comes up when a Democrat is president. For those who haven´t been following this insider saga: The White House revoked Acosta´s press pass after his antics at an official Trump press conference, in which he refused to relinquish the microphone to a White House intern. (You can see the altercation here.) CNN sued the White House, claiming that the ban violated Acosta´s First Amendment rights.

People who follow politics, even casually, learn not to expect high moral standards from politicians. But there are some outrages that show a new low, even for politicians. Among the consequences of Democrats´ recent election victories, especially at the state and local levels, is the election of officials who have publicly announced their opposition to charter schools, and their determination to restrict or roll back the growth of those schools. What have the charter schools done to provoke such opposition?

Socialism: Sen. Bernie Sanders, a self-declared socialist who´s never held a steady job outside government, thinks he knows better than CEOs how to run a business. And yes, he´s serious. Fresh off what Sanders sees as success in pushing Jeff Bezos to raise Amazon´s minimum wage to $15, Sanders has set his sights on a longtime bete noire of the left: Walmart. With typical Sanders subtlety, his new legislative proposal is called the "Stop WALMART act." Under it, big employers like Walmart would be banned from buying back shares in their own company

Global Warming: Everyone makes mistakes, but some mistakes are bigger than others. That´s the case with a recent study based on a climate model that claimed the oceans had retained 60% more warming than previously thought. It made headlines around the world with its alarming conclusion. The study itself, by no fewer than ten authors, made sweeping claims. The authors wrote that the study held "implications for policy-relevant measurements of the Earth response to climate change, such as climate sensitivity to greenhouse gases and the thermal component of sea-level rise."

Environmentalism: A new report calls the lie on the grand Paris climate change treaty. None of the promised cuts in CO2 emissions that 200-plus countries made will come close to preventing a climate "catastrophe." And many of the industrialized nations aren´t even living up to the promises they did make. Two years ago, when the Paris agreement took effect, then-President Obama declared that "history may well judge it as a turning point for our planet." It was a turning point in the level of empty rhetoric, perhaps. But it won´t make a bit of difference to the planet.

Debt: We´ve written about the threat our growing federal debt poses a number of times in past years. But it was usually posed as a hypothetical problem in the distant future. Well, guess what: It´s now about to become a real problem. And Americans will discover a tough lesson: There ain´t no such thing as a free lunch. As Jeffrey Goldblum said in the horror movie "The Fly," "Be afraid. Be very afraid." Because, as in the horror movie genre, our monster debt could just gobble up our entire federal budget.

Energy: Has any politician ever been more wrong than Barack Obama was about U.S. oil production and energy independence? Based on the latest report from the International Energy Agency, the answer is unequivocally no. On Tuesday, oil prices fell for the 12th consecutive decline. And amid that decline, the International Energy Agency forecasts that the U.S. will account for 75% of the growth in global oil production through 2025. That´s a stunning finding that shows how dynamic the domestic oil and gas industry has become.

Poverty: Recent reports suggest that America has made no progress at all in its "War on Poverty" since the 1960s. Headlines claim "one in eight" Americans live in poverty. But is that true? It depends on how you define poverty. And the answer matters a lot, since it determines so much of U.S. economic policy, from food stamps to minimum wages, and from taxes to welfare work requirements. It´s true: Official poverty data from the U.S. Census show little change since the 1960s.

The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports that Brown is proposing one of the most significant changes to the state´s logging rules in nearly half a century. "Gov. Peggy Noonan’s intense dislike for President Donald Trump undermines her credibility as a fair and balanced columnist: She cannot be true to her trade when she hates the objects of her pen. With the Trumps, she has lost all sense of balance. Her unwarranted attack on First Lady Melania Trump last weekend in the Wall Street Journal is plain ugly. In a column titled “Melania’s Misstep and Michelle’s Mystery,” Noonan declares her love for former first lady Michelle Obama after reading her memoir, Becoming. Noonan should know by now that every auto-biographer blows his/her own trumpet.

TIJUANA, Mexico — Migrants stranded in Tijuana are complaining about cramped living spaces, exposure to the cold at night, limited access to food and safety concerns. The makeshift shelter they´ve been living in for almost a week is nearing capacity, and more migrants are on the way to this border community. More than 2,500 migrants, hailing mostly from Honduras and to a lesser extent from other Central American countries and Mexico, are staying at Unidad Deportiva Benito Juárez, a sports complex in Tijuana´s north end. Another 3,400 are in nearby Mexicali, about 90 miles away, according to the state officials.
