´It looked like Armageddon.´
Homes burn in Massachusetts towns
after suspected gas explosions

CNN, by Nicole Chavez

Homes in three towns north of Boston went up in flames on Thursday, consumed by more than 60 suspected gas fires. One house exploded, sending the chimney flying. It crashed into a nearby car, fatally wounding a teenager who was inside. Leonel Rondon, 18, and two of his friends were in the car when the debris struck, his family told CNN affiliate WHDH. He later died in the hospital, authorities said. In Lawrence, Massachusetts, a boiler inside Ra Nam´s house caught fire, he told CNN affiliate WCVB. Minutes later, he said he heard a loud booming sound from his neighbor´s house. Three

The only reason I can think of is a large, unexpected increase in pressure that blew out weak pipes. They didn´t say how old the infrastructure was but this many leaks would not occur under normal circumstances.

"Schools will be closed Friday in Lawrence and Andove. All state offices in all three towns will be also closed, and nonemergency employees have been asked to stay home."

The event was not funny but the above released statement certainly is.

Thank you for that "increase in pressure" explanation, poster #1. I´d heard about these fires and could think of no likely reason. Yours makes sense.

The utility was in the middle of an upgrade to the distribution system. The most obvious explanation would be that the local control station, which was supposed to step the pressure down from 60 pounds per square inch to .25 PSI, malfunctioned. That could blow out some gas pipes, especially in old houses. If it didn´t do that, it could still "turn pilot lights into blowtorches," in the words of Bob Ackley, the president of an organization called Gas Safety USA, who was quoted by Fox News.
I dunno -- I´m glad I have LPG, not piped natural gas, in my house.

Gas in main pipelines can run up to 1500 pounds per square inch pressure. In the home, the feed pressure is 1/2 a pound per square inch.

Local distribution lines run from 300 to 60, depending on a lot of factors. If a regulator, a mechnical device which drops the pressure from the high level to the low level, fails internally, or is damaged (often by digging), it can pass through the full high pressure.

Lines are generally strong enough, physically, when new, but as they age, and perhaps corrode, they will be fine at 0.5 psi, but blow out at 200 or 300 psi. And, pilot lights will flare out a huge flame, and often pilot light piping it small aluminum and may not survive the pressures.

So, no matter what the particular individual failures, putting far, far higher pressure than intended on consumer appliances will cause serious, dangerous, flaming malfunctions of many kinds.

We Need To Retoxify Masculinity

Let’s be clear: My pronouns are “he,” “his,” and “stop being creepy weirdos.” Okay, maybe the last one isn’t a pronoun, but then again, I’m a man and if I want an insulting string of words directed at the nattering nabobs of gender neutrality to be a pronoun, it is a pronoun. And if you don’t like it, fight me. We need more masculinity, and the more toxic the social justice warriors think it is, the better. Bizarrely, now shaving companies are allying with the SJWs in an Axis of Irritants. Gillette is channeling campus gender studies dorks to try to sell you razors. They all think you should soften up, get in touch with your feelings, and submit.

It is amusing that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi claims her desire to delay the State of the Union address is because of security concerns stemming from federal employees´ being furloughed over a budget battle caused by her party´s refusal to secure this country´s southern border. Everyone knows this has nothing to do with security at the Capitol and everything to do with flexing her muscles against President Trump and showing him who´s boss. She also wants to deprive Trump of his bully pulpit during a time when public opinion is tilting away from her party´s unreasonable, bad-faith and dishonest position

For the past two years, our united Republican government drained money and power from Washington and returned it to states, communities and families. From middle-class tax cuts to regulatory reform, we took this approach and watched the nation thrive more as a result. Democrats have a different philosophy. After November´s elections, everyone knew Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the new House would send the Senate far-left proposals to retighten Washington´s grip on the country. And right on cue, even as their refusal to invest in border security prolongs this partial government shutdown, House Democrats have wasted no time rolling out a sprawling

An FBI that is corrupt and dishonest --

Dishonesty and corruption are endemic at the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The latest proof comes in a New York Times report that the FBI initiated an investigation in May of 2017 into whether President Donald Trump was serving as a covert Russian agent. The accusation itself was ludicrous on its face. But from a legal standpoint, the FBI´s probe constituted an egregious abuse of power. The Bureau had no probable cause, no evidence, and no reasonable suspicions. They investigated Trump because they could. They defied the law, ignored or perverted facts, and debased the integrity of a heretofore-respected law enforcement agency. Why

A black man was reportedly found dead Monday morning at the Los Angeles residence of Democrat donor Ed Buck — the second such mysterious death at his home in the past few years. Wehoville reports law enforcement has yet to release the identity of the deceased male who died in Buck’s West Hollywood apartment. Buck was investigated — and later cleared — following the death of Gemmel Moore, a young man who died of a drug overdose at the 65-year-old’s home in July 2017. Following Moore’s death, Buck has been accused of having a “fetish” for inserting drugs into black men

Reacting to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi´s anti-Trump and anti-wall speech last week, successful actor and outspoken conservative James Woods asked the Democrat one simple question: Why do you have a wall around your property, then? Like many politicians, Pelosi apparently lives by a set of politically-expedient double standards. Though she has repeatedly slammed President Donald Trump for his goal of funding a wall at the Southern border, calling it an "immorality," she´s perfectly fine with securing her own property. "The fact is, a wall is an immorality. It´s not who we are as a nation," Pelosi told a crowd of

On his program Monday night, CNN´s Don Lemon urged the network to incorporate a "delay" during President Trump´s primetime address on border security, such as one you´d have during a live awards ceremony when Christian Bale or Patricia Arquette step up to the mic with no filter. Otherwise, it´s like their network will be "promoting propaganda" that comes out of Trump´s mouth, Lemon feared. "People will believe it whether the facts are true or not," Lemon said. I do not care if a Republican - most likely like former Ohio Governor John Kasich – says that a physical barrier is not necessary. They are politicians worried about public opinion for the next election. Talk to a Border Patrol agent, sheriff deputy or police officer in a border county and you will get the truth about the need for a wall. This week President Trump appeared with National Border

Well, this is awkward. The federal government has been shut down for three weeks now and it is hard to find a single tax-paying, Average-Joe citizen who has been affected — unless, of course, you happen to work for Uncle Sam. It is literally true that you could go from building to building along the National Mall and completely shutter a good number of federal government agencies and it would take years before the first regular American knew the departments had been killed off. Country music is the most American of musical idioms, alongside jazz. With a longer history than rock and roll or hip-hop, country has produced a powerful pantheon of memorable artists, albums, and songs. Growing up, I pretended not to like country music, even though it was the music I heard my dad listen to the most (while my mom turned me on to the incredible pop and rock of the ‘60s and ‘70s). Nowadays, I’ve shaken that youthful pretension and will admit to enjoying most types of country’s many subgenres. I also have to admit that compiling a list
