Grassley´s office on Monday sent out an agenda for a business meeting the committee will have on Thursday. Kavanaugh´s nomination is included as one of roughly two dozen judicial nominations that could get a vote. The move means Kavanaugh´s nomination could get a vote as soon as this week. But Democrats are expected to delay the vote until next week, meaning Kavanaugh´s nomination will likely be taken up by the committee on Sept. 20. Under committee rules, any one senator can delay a nomination by a week when it´s on the agenda for the first time, as Kavanaugh´s nomination

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) says that Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, the professor who came forward with a sexual assault accusation against Brett Kavanaugh, should not be "bullied" into testifying Monday in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee without an FBI investigation being performed. In an interview with CNN, the Democratic senator says that committee members are bullying Ford by calling for her testimony without the support of corroborating witnesses or an FBI investigation into the credibility of her claim. "I don´t think she should be bullied into this scenario, where it´s a ´he-said, she-said´ when many of the committee members

WASHINGTON – Two Republican senators who this week said they would be hesitant to proceed with a vote on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh until they had a chance to hear from a woman accusing him of sexual assault are strongly encouraging the accuser to appear at a scheduled hearing next week. Sens. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., and Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., both called for a delay on Kavanaugh´s confirmation vote, which had been scheduled for Thursday, after Palo Alto University professor Christine Blasey Ford came forward publicly as Kavanaugh´s accuser in The Washington Post over the weekend. As I´ve said many times over, I do not know whether Brett Kavanaugh´s accuser is acting in good or bad faith, nor does virtually anyone else. She could be lying. He could be lying. Or they could both be telling what they firmly believe to be the truth, based on an array of faulty, hazy or false memories. What matters now is how we assess the available evidence, of which there is precious little. Earlier, I laid out my own attempt at erecting some reasonable, if imperfect, metrics for doing just that. An allegation of a sexual assault and a take-it-or-leave it offer to the accuser to testify ASAP have opened a new partisan divide and thrown the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh, which had seemed to be on a glide path, into chaos. Whether a new hearing, tentatively planned for Monday, takes place and who testifies are very open questions at this point. Kavanaugh and California professor Christine Blasey Ford, who alleges that a drunken Kavanaugh physically and sexually assaulted her when they were both in high school, could both testify. Kavanaugh denies the allegation. Republicans have framed

For Donald Trump’s White House, Brett Kavanaugh is increasingly irrelevant to the politics of his own Supreme Court nomination. Instead, those close to the president view the next few days as a virtual X-ray on the backbone of their party and a litmus test for the future of Trump’s presidency. Those are the stakes that Team Trump has embraced as it and Kavanaugh respond to allegations that the federal appeals court judge sexually assaulted a fellow high-school student—allegations he strenuously denies. Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s treatment of a more than 3-decade-old sexual assault allegation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh was unfair all around. It was unfair to Kavanaugh, unfair to his accuser and unfair to Feinstein’s colleagues — Democrats and Republicans alike — on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Feinstein, a California Democrat, took the worst possible course by waiting until almost a week after Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing was completed to ominously announce that she had turned over “information from an individual” about Kavanaugh to the FBI, and adding that she would be honoring the woman’s “strongly requested” confidentiality.

When Christine Blasey Ford finally admitted that it was she who had leveled the uncorroborated charges of sexual assault against SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh, she was immediately asked if she would be willing to repeat her charges under oath. Her lawyer, Democratic activist Debra Katz, claimed her client was willing to testify before Congress. However, according to the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, neither Ford nor her lawyer has responded to any of several attempts to confirm that she will attend the Monday hearing that was set up so she can tell her story in Kavanaugh’s presence.
