Women cheer as Swedish
man-free music festival opens

Gothenburg (Sweden) - Matilda Hagerman laughs with her friends as she queues at a man-free music festival, which kicked off in Sweden on Friday in protest against a wave of sexual assaults at festivals in recent years. "This festival was necessary because of everything that happened during festivals last year," says the 27-year-old student with long pink hair and purple lipstick as her friends nod in agreement. Held in Sweden´s second-largest city of Gothenburg, the two-day Statement Festival, forbids men but not transgender people. It was announced last year after police received four rape and 23 sexual assault

Comments:
Any suggestion that the sexual assaults "in recent years" has anything to do with mass importation of Muslim refugees over the same span is a thoughtcrime, and punishment will be swift and severe.

I suppose organizing a festival like this is much easier than installing law and order in a country.
But when they lose control, there will be no more festivals, or pink hair, or freedom...and they will wish they had fought when they had a chance.

They are the advance line of the migrant caravan that Donald Trump has said is attempting an “invasion” of the US. But, as a 400-strong group of asylum-seeking Central Americans arrived in the Mexican border town of Tijuana on Saturday, they appeared more concerned with love than war. The splinter caravan – which is made up of dozens of LGBTQ+ people – was in celebratory mood as two of its members, 23-year-old Erick Dubon and Pedro Nehemias, 22, got married. The couple – originally from Honduras where same-sex unions are banned – tied the knot ahead of applying for asylum

Investigators are examining a work of art to establish whether it is a Picasso snatched from a Dutch museum in 2012. The painting, Picasso’s Tete d’Arlequin (Harlequin’s Head) was stolen six years ago in a haul of seven valuable artworks from the Kunsthal gallery in Rotterdam. The Romanian prosecutor in Bucharest said on Sunday that officials were examining a painting that a novelist said she found under a tree after receiving an anonymous tip. The work, purported to be the stolen Picasso, was given to the Dutch embassy in Romania on Saturday. Four Romanians were convicted of stealing Tete d’Arlequin

It was the great microchip heist — a stunning Chinese-backed effort that pilfered as much as $8.75 billion in patented American technology. U.S. officials say the theft took a year to pull off and involved commercial spies, a Chinese-backed company, a Taiwanese chipmaker and employees affiliated with Micron Technology, a U.S.-based microchip behemoth. Yet what Micron called “one of the boldest schemes of commercial espionage in recent times” is most notable because it’s not unusual. Beijing over the last two years has significantly ramped up its swiping of commercial technology and intellectual property, from jet engines to genetically modified rice

Championing the cause of the poor, Pope Francis on Sunday lamented that "the wealthy few" enjoy what, "in justice, belongs to all" and said Christians cannot remain indifferent to the growing cries of the exploited and the indigent, including migrants. Francis invited about 6,000 poor people as well as some of the volunteers who help them to the splendor of St. Peter´s Basilica where he celebrated Mass on a day the Catholic Church dedicates to the needy. Later, he sat down with 1,500 of the indigent for a lunch of lasagna, chicken, mashed potatoes and tiramisu in a Vatican auditorium.

Patrons at a small bar in Pocatello, Idaho, were a bit confused as to why a stranger showed up intent on watching the Harvard-Yale football game one day in 1982. He tried to explain, but no one really paid much attention until he offered to buy all the beer. Had they been listening, they might not have believed him. He was only there because he received a cryptic phone call that consisted of just three words: "Watch the game." Still, the message was received. There was only one reason he could have received such a strange call: After four years,

Mirebalais, Haiti — Cervical cancer is a disease that Haiti cannot afford. And in most cases, it’s a disease the country’s broken healthcare system cannot treat. There is just one MRI scanner in the entire country of 11 million people. Radiation treatment does not exist — for any kind of cancer — because there are no machines. Cancer screenings and early detection programs are limited, and so is access to lifesaving care. In a country already struggling to manage maternal deaths and childhood diseases that have been largely controlled in other parts of the world, cervical cancer is nearly always a death

Scientists say they have uncovered how and why wombats produce cube-shaped poo - the only known species to do so. The Australian marsupial can pass up to 100 deposits of poop a night and they use the piles to mark territory. The shape helps it stop rolling away. Despite having round anuses like other mammals, wombats do not produce round pellets, tubular coils or messy piles. Researchers revealed on Sunday the varied elasticity of the intestines help to sculpt the poop into cubes.
