tantric - well alright then...sorry I said bite me. :-) After re-reading my first post I realized that a non-Catholic might think I was criticising protestant hymns...nothing could be farther from the truth - I don't know many, but the ones I know, I love...
How Great Thou Art
I Love to Tell the Story
Faith of of Fathers...
I just miss the other great ones...Praise to the Lord, the Almighty the King of creaaaaaation!!! :-)

Well, I've heard I'm pretty tasty - it's all that ice cream I eat, I guess! :-)
These dem commentators are pathetic. Rahm Emmanuel came out with the talking points and they all just prattle the same lines - not an original idea among them.
I'm hearing repeats of Teddy's call for 'another vote' but you know and I know the dems don't want to live thru another vote...especially after Powell gets done on 2/5.

It was probably my post that got us deleted. Sorry, everyone! I was raised Luthern, and remember so well, "The Church's One Foundation". Wasn't that a GREAT speech, Allegra and Tantric?

Thanks Amy, this is fun to read..
Juan Williams almost cried, it was priceless
Nancy Pelosi looks like a chicken to me...every time she blinks, she sees the world for the first time.
#122 first thread...Kerry looks like Lerch..
Its not about following a process
Its about achieving a result!
Go George!

Applepie, I thought it was not quite as good as his last SOTU - but then that was still a very emotionally hot time for all of us...I thought it was brilliant though, the way he got verrrrry quiet as he spoke about Iraq and terrorism. Talk about 'owning the table'.
Church's One Foundation is another favorite. And Panis Angelicus....sigh....we Catholics are not allowed to sing the good ones any more. I'm not kidding. Some parishes misread VCII to mean that we should never have organs or pre-vatII hymns. We get those dang guitars and keyboards set on a bilious waterdrop setting...and those 'we-us-me-my' hymns...it's pretty appalling. Now, I'm gonna be singing Amazing Grace all night! But that's fine. I always pray the hours of Compline (closing prayer to complete the day) before bed, and tonight I'll do a little "Amazing Grace" before I hit the Simeon Canticle ("Lord let your servant depart in peace, your word has been fulfilled...etc")

Uh, #7 what brought up the religion anyway?
Anyone who believes in Jesus as savior is a christian. I will always have Love... weather other ppl believe it or not is irrelevent.
Oh yeah... last time I checked, the ressurected Jesus is the head of the church.

These threads that we used tonight are always cleaned out EVERY Tuesday night- Wednesday AM...But normally they aren't in use like this...

Religion got brought up because Bush used part of a hymn "wonder-working-power" and we wondered where it came from. (I love that he is a faithful man).
Then someone said the name of the hymn and Cato didn't know it and I complained that we didn't know it because of VCII, which you took to mean something else, then I said bite me - and we got that cleared up. Right?
But I agree wholeheartedly with Shiloh Sharps from the nuked thread. Our president is a man of faith who speaks openly and powerfully about God and gives God the Glory. We MUST pray for him without letting up, because the evil one will undoubtedly want to take him down.

Those are all great ones, allegra. Panis Angelicus sung by Placido Domingo is simply spine tingling. But IMHO the all-time best hymn...ok, second all-time best ,after "How Great Thou Art," is "I Am the Bread of Life." You're right; the good ones are all about Him, not us.
As for Lurch Kerry (Lurch Addams is much better looking, BTW), more than once tonight, he looked as if he was about to spew slugs, but the prize for sour expressions tonight goes to Shyster Edwards, the Ambulance Chaser; when GW let loose with his comments about frivolous lawsuits, Edwards looked positively furious. ZING!

Molly, you're right about Domingo, and about the look on Edward's face. I thought Kennedy's nephew, Patrick looked appalling, too...how red can a nose get? How does it get that way???? :-)
tantric, I came by my faith the hard way - and the day Christ drove me to my knees and left me there for over an hour (it felt like minutes) I acknowledged my belief and asked Him to help my unbelief. I'm not looking to worship elsewhere - music aside, I am very happy being a Catholic. But thanks.

No matter if one is a Democrat or Republican, Independent, Green Party member, Protestant or Catholic, we should feel free to sing the hymns that fill our heart with the Spirit. One that can be sung for our Armed Forces and our President right now is ''A Mighty Fortress Is Our God''.

#13, allegra....
This arguement reminds me of a couple of great movies in the early 70's. The Three Musketeers and then The Four Muskateers.
I highly recommend them.

Heaven is going to be wonderful. Chillin' with the angels, pickin' W's brain about what he REALLY knew as Prez but couldn't talk about. Singin' ALL the great hymns and modern worship of the entire Church Age.
(check out www.worldwideworship.com for a taste)
Good times, for sure.
Of course that'll be after we've spent the first 90 to 100 million years facedown in glorious, abject exaltation of Him Who sits upon The Throne, in unapproachable Light.
11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;
12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.
13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.
14 And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.
Revelation 5:11-14

Heaven is closer with a President who listens to the Lord... but the opposition will get more strident as the moral choices become clear. Including re-thinking the Roe-Vs Wade decision.
Hell will break out - and the living "dead" will make the most noise. Now to pray as we Orthodox Christians do each night "He that dwells in the shelter of the most High.." (Psalm 90-91).

What a Rush! GWB is my Hero! Thank God (and Laura Bush and intelligent American voters) we have him as our country's leader at such a perilous time in this young country's history. Pray for his and his family's health and peace of mind in this endeavor. Surely, he has the Lord's countenance upon him.

#16.... I never asked you to stop being a catholic.
I remmember the day I accepted Jesus into my heart. I still feel the tears when I think about that day. Out of the corners of my eyes, and down behind my ears. I didnt know exactly what happened... but my life was forever changed.
The LOVE will never leave me. It has been a long time since that day... but the LOVE is still there.. always.

The delivery was so powerful the words while magnificent needed the electrifing
presentation.
We watched on public TV and didn't have to put up with much audience panning. the focus seldom left the president.
We briefly caught a glimpse of McCain --he really looked ill --like it was an effort to move.
Laura looked so endearing -- I think that smile was for her.
Gephardt looked absolutely enthralled ---- the pres held him in the palm of his hand as he did most everyone --even some of his enemies..
My impression was that the Governor taped his response before the speech was given.
it was so trite and totally pre -- based on he preliminary guesses.
His presentation so wooden and he blinked about every second. A sign he didn't know what he was doing.

Did you see the cadre in the Congressional chamber tonight who stood with GW the whole time? They came in with W. They went out with W. They flanked him during the entirety of his momentous address. If you saw them, you'd know it. They're about 8'-9" tall, decked in impossibly white clothes with gold sashes across their 60" chests and carrying some REALLY nice long swords.
I recognized them right away because they work for my Father.
It is SOOO great to have a man of his word in the White House who is also a man of The Word -- and walks his talk.
BTW: If you really like the old high church greats, look up a Musical Heritage Society CD entitled "Holy, Holy, Holy". It's got 16 tracks of the King's college Choir (how appropos) singing the likes of "Praise, my soul, the King of Heaven", "Now thank we all our God", "O God, our help in ages past" the Diademata and Eventide. Just transcendant music, I assure you.
God Bless You, God Bless our "Leading Man", and God Bless America!

#24, what you have always posted reflects your feelings, and that is why I said (in my post that was sent into cyberspace), that your posts are always the BEST. Thank you for sharing your experience. But ~ (oh, no, there's a ''but''), this thread is about our President's State of the Union Address, and we will, no doubt discuss religious discourse at another time. Fair?

#27... fair enough...
The world has forgetten about the massive death and destruction that can be waged with WMD, but GWB has not. He is a good man doing what is right.
If he's smart, GWB will get the neutron bombs out of the cellar.

This is for Cato, if you're still awake! The title of the hymn quoted so cleverly by GWB tonight is 'Power in the Blood'. It should be in any Protestant hymnal. We snapped to attention when we heard him say those words.
Though I was raised Protestant,
my favorite hymn is 'Come, Come Ye Saints' - the great Mormon anthem, especially when when sung by the Tabernacle Choir.
We're still high here from the SOTU, and that steely look in GWB's eyes as he talked about Iraq.
