Hunger in America? Feckless fly-fishing Howell Raines who stumbled away from his job as Head Bush-Basher and Editor-in-Chief of the New York Times showed up on a pal's TV-talker Friday night. Charlie Rose pretended they weren't best buds but couldn't bring himself to ask him anything tough about Jason Blair. Raines claimed Blair was "just a land-mine" he accidentally stepped on. If you sat through it with a shred of doubt as to why Raines had to go you must have missed him saying things like this: "80 million Americans have the intellectual appetitive for a paper like the New York Times." Here's the transcript, if you really must know what he said. If not, trust us, he missed the clue-bus long before he got canned. That he was actually fired was the only piece of news in the tedious hour.
Summer Fun: Now here's a trial that we hope CourtTV is able to pick up. Roman Polanski, the man who can't come back here because he drugged and raped a near-child decades ago, is suing Vanity Fair magazine for writing that he propositioned women on the way to his murdered wife's funeral. Sharon Tate Polanski was slain with others in the infamous Charles Manson case 34 years ago. It's amazing what hurts celebrities' feelings.
Leave Him Alone: We hear these ominous warnings that Dr. Howard Dean, the front runner and the man who is shoveling every other dem candidate to the edge of the leftist cliff, is not the man he claims to be. Let's leave him alone. Pray he gets the nomination and watch the party implode. He seems to be nothing but a mean McGovern and that will work just fine. His extra edge is that he embodies all those arrogant attitudes you get from doctors who think you are slime because you got sick and came to them in the first place.
