Quote of the day:

"At the moment, this is a Club Med war zone. What would they have been like with troops in the streets and fingers on the trigger?"

-General Tommy Franks commenting on the "Human Shields" in Baghdad

Has Anyone Noticed... a certain maniacal gleam in the eyes of talking heads since KSM's capture in Pakistan as they ask folks to discuss the efficacy of torture? There's a certain unhealthy lust to discuss "legal" ways to do it. Our suggestion up until this morning was a mixed program of Helen Thomas for a cellmate and the Collected Works of Yanni played inside a metal bucket on the head. Now we've found an even better one: An endless video loop of Clinton and Dole debating on 60 Minutes. Interrogators will not be able to scribble notes fast enough.

Puncturing Peacenikery: Just in case you find yourself sitting next to a Saddamite at your local bar this last weekend before the war - Fred Barnes has some rock solid talking points to the lame arguments being made by those with human shield mentalities. In this Daily Standard piece he reminds us of Colin Powell's answer when being hectored about Bush's "empire building." "We have gone forth from our shores repeatedly over the last 100 years . . . and put wonderful young men and women at risk, many of whom have lost their lives, and we have asked for nothing except enough ground to bury them in."

Bomb Day Bingo: Israeli intelligence sources say the war will begin this coming Sunday night. The London Express says it will be on St. Patrick's Day, the l7th. At the end of the story for some inexplicable reason they say it will be March 13th. Other wire-services are mumbling about the Ides of March. The truth is probably that no one knows so we'll just wait.

Much Ado About Who's a Jew: The Boston Globe, petulant and determined to prove it was not their fault for printing years of stories referring to John Kerry as being Irish, is harping on it again. They done some hard sleuthing and have come up with solid quotes and rambling references by Kerry that makes a pretty convincing case for duplicity on his part. It's a nasty bit of business and one that will haunt him and interest his opponents big time. If his very rich and very grand wife doesn't turn off the voters, this might.

Suck It Up And Soldier On: Clearly furious, Dick Cheney has lashed out from his undisclosed location at an unfunny and tasteless "satirical" website for lampooning his wife Lynn. Yesterday the vice president's lawyer contacted the site's owner to ask him to delete the unpleasantness. This only made the jerk ramp up the idiotic copy. It's tough but the web is still the wild West, the First Amendment still lives and some things are better left alone.

LDotter Note: In the last month and since our former server ate our website (name on request) our traffic has shot through the roof. Current stats show us a over 1.5 million hits a day. In the days and weeks to come we expect this will go much higher, all things considered. This may result in your not being able to access the site during heavy traffic hours. Please be patient and try again. It's us, not you.
