Quote of the day:

"While you're at it, you might as well ask me why moths fly into porch lights."

-Jo-Anne Prokopowicz, State Department spokeswoman, asked to comment on Westerners acting as human shields in Iraq.

Short Cuts

Wave Bye Bye: "You are not going to decide whether there is war in Iraq or not. That decision is ours, and we have already made it. It is already final. The only question now is whether the council will go along with it or not." With those bold and determined words being echoed by dozens of other U.S. officials, the U.N. is getting both a heads-up and it handed to them at the same time. The WaPo outlines how it's all going to go down. Who knows, by next year New Yorker's will have thousands of available parking spaces on the East side of Manhattan.

A Story That Goes Nowhere: This is just pure royal dish but the accompanying picture pops the eyes. Seems people are still mucking around trying to prove Diana's Prince Harry is the love child of that cad Major Hewitt. This latest attempt to prove it didn't work but the pictures certainly sing a different song. Amazing.

Uber-Mom: Unemployed 'entertainer' Rosie O'Donnell waddled onto the Donahue show and plopped herself down wearing a faded Levi jacket with the words "No War" scribbled on the back in Magic Market. In a conversation with a twittering Donahue she claimed she didn't know the difference between to old and the new testament, she was against the war but offered no alternatives (this would have required actually reading something on the subject) and said she actually still weighs less than Mike Tyson. Donahue turned to whipped cream. The country turned to another channel.

How Big Is Your Missile: Dan The News Man Rather scored a relatively news-less interview with Saddam Hussein to be aired tomorrow night on 60 Minutes II. What makes the headlines from interview outtakes this morning is that Saddam says his al-Samoud missiles aren't big enough to deserve destruction so he won't do it. Buried in the audio of Dan's report on the CBS site is Rather saying that Saddam believes he won the 1991 Gulf War. Perhaps he should have lead with that.
