There are times when New York City is a lovely place to be.

Big Apple Candy Store: The thirty or so Republicans in New York City did a little happy dance yesterday. They like it that the GOP will convene here in 2004 in what will obviously be a W/Rudy/9-11 homage that will leave Hillary/Schumer/Sharpton noses pressed greasily against the political window.

Don't Get Snippy: Now comes the NFL to say that a there was a botched call on the final play of the Giants' heartbreaking playoff loss to San Francisco. If you are a jock, this is your engine starter for the morning. To those of us on the sidelines, the whole controversy has a decidedly Algore-ish whiff to it.

Michael Moore Off His Prozac: Here's a tidbit from a celebrity news service that says the hygienically challenged "satirist" Michael Moore is now behaving very, very badly in England. One of life's mysteries is why anyone puts up with this person at all.

Check For Ticks: The Marin (CA) News reports that 40 women got jay-bird, lay down in a cow pasture and spelled out the words "No War."  Last November, another group out there did the same thing and spelled out "Peace." We will spend a few seconds trying to figure out the point of this exercise and why it requires the participants to be nude...tick...tick... We will now moooove on.

Flip Her Over, She Ain't Done:  Just when we thought the whole Martha Stewart story had gone cold, she's back in the media oven. ( Yes, we've missed the easy accessibility of cooking metaphors when her plight was daily dish.) Deep into this story in the NYDailyNews is a heavy hint that Sam Waksal may be ready to do some talk trading to ease his jail time. This can't be good news for our Martha and assorted "tippees."

Headlines That Make Us Smile:  Talk about cooking metaphors, the WaPo's Lisa Moraes' editor put this neat headline on a second day take on the CNN staff firings: CNN's Very Small Turnover Recipe: Serves Six.
