Stockton, California will become the first city in the country to participate in a test of Universal Basic Income, in which 100 residents will be given $500-dollars-a-month, with no strings attached. The program aims to create a level of income that no one will fall beneath. By providing impoverished residents a regular sum of money that they can use on anything they wish, be it food, clothes, gas, or starting a new venture, those behind the program believe it could go a long way to give people enough support to try out new ideas. The program in Stockton, which was

If I am a law abiding taxpayer in Stockton, the "for sale" sign is in my yard and I am already gone!!!!!

My tax dollars are not going to pay for this Communist redistribution of income!!!!!

IIRC, they had to file for bankruptcy and their city council had given themselves massive pensions. This appears to be par for their course.

Big boost to the local drug dealers liquor store owners and lottery ticket sales. You can bet it won’t get spent on music lessons for the kids and math tutors. Call it Stocktopia.

Ahh yes, a diverse population, most assuredly democrats, have decided that communism is the way forward. If the monies are to come from the uber rich Silicon valley folks, it´s fine with me. Eventually, if you keep giving it away, the money will run out and a lot of donations to democrats will dry up.

This is getting way too much attention. It it so stupid. Stockton has 300k population. An average electric bill and water bill for most people, lower income, would use this 500.
500 dollar is nothing. Totally nothing if you live here. How did they pick the scant 100 people they are giving it to, and what is the point of this? Why is it getting so much press time? Seriously, what do they consider "success" with this stupid idea.

Extreme ignorance prompts some to label all of California an outhouse because of an isolated little situation like this. A social experiment, as those who read will find out.

I fear for the rest of what we Conservatives care about when that kind of ignorance exists among those of us professing to be Conservatives.

Extreme ignorance?? Me? Really #18?

Check yourself, I live in Butte County and my state has gone to the toilet and I can say that after:
1)Being stationed here in 1967 at Beale AFB to finish my 4 year stint.
2)Moving here in 1976. 42 years ago.
3)Being a conservative all my life.
4)Strongly supporting Veterans for TRUMP 2020.Always voting Republican.
5)Having retired after 25 years as a Teacher/Counselor/Consultant with great rapport and success with students.

People shouldn´t have to be called extremely ignorant, #18, that´s so knee-jerk and ignorant in and of itself.

Jerry Brown and his followers have turned my home state into an outhouse and I stand with that remark! I will not defend idiots, socialism, illegals, or far-left control of Sacramento...why do you?

Apologies for the second post, I usually don´t, but I have to respond to being called extremely ignorant, don´t I?

#20 The fact that you lived here that long yet learned nothing about the state proves the charge correct.
Maybe you couldn´t cut it in the richest and most productive state in the US by a factor of over 2. Not everyone can as it requires drive and the ability to overcome adversity. If so, you did the right thing and moved to a place with a lot of others just like you. That is the great thing about this country, a person can find a place where he fits in and belongs.
We don´t blame you, and you shouldn´t blame us.
Now, go out and do something you enjoy rather than sulking about the past.

#22-What a alarming things some conjure up as a response to someone accurate and who lives there, like #11..Maybe California changed for the worse. So have a lot of places. Your rant about "sulking in the past" makes no sense and makes YOU sound like a sulker. We don´t do that to people in this fine salon. He resented being called "extreme ignorance" from someone else for merely voicing his opinion, so he defended himself. Like our great President does ...Then YOU attacked him too... with cute barbs.

I notice only 100 are included in this freebee. Why not the remaining thousands? Why not bankrupt Stockifornia immediately? Can they claim bankruptcy again in so short a time? What I want to know, is the 100 still getting CA´s lavish welfare benefits on top of the $500?
