Trump poised to get new
low-yield nuclear weapons

Washington Post, by Paul Sonne

The new low-yield nuclear warheads that President Trump wants to add to the American arsenal look poised to receive backing from Congress, despite an outcry from anti-nuclear advocates and attempts by Democratic lawmakers to defund or limit their introduction. The addition of the warheads to ballistic-missile submarines has become the most controversial element of the Trump administration’s new nuclear weapons strategy. Critics say the smaller impact of such “battlefield nuclear weapons” makes them more tempting to use in a crisis — therefore lowering the threshold of nuclear war. But the Trump administration, led by

Comments:
It´s ironic that the enviormental terrorist dRATS party would be against "low-yield nuclear warheads" for our submarines. Don;t they fear a nuclear winter that will surely throw off their fake climate change numbers?

Paywall does not appear for me, while oftentimes it does now. If I see one, I won´t post article. Doing a "search" on Internet, found it here:

Isn´t it a strange coincidence that the WaPo would print this kind of article about Trump wanting to expand our number of nukes while negotiating with NoKo to get rid of ALL their A-bombs (along with their missiles)?

Is it possible that the Post is trying to sabotage the negotiations?

Silly question....the Post would never do anything like that !!!

In Europe now, first I have to agree to "new European privacy rules", then after dumping all WashPost cookies, still get "limited browser" warning, then after a few seconds of reading the article, their adblocker alert shuts it down. WashCommiePost is a PITA, and full of disinformation, anyway.

The new thing is the availability of a dash two variant of the W76 warhead on our sub launched ICBMs. Lowers yield to 6.5 kilotons, about half of the Hiroshima bomb. Serious hit, but not huge. Dash one W76 original version is estimated by unclassified sources at 100 kiloton yield, about 8 times the Hiroshima bomb. In any case, low yield means perhaps more usable. If that increases the fear factor on the other end - good.

IMO, we have gotten to the point that too many people think that using even a single nuclear weapon is "unthinkable". This is ridiculous, they are just big hammers, and if the need is great enough, they should be used. Use ONE and the credibility will be back, better threat, more likely to get compliance short of using another.

I wonder how these new weapons compare to the tactical nukes we have had for some time? Anyone in the know?

Exactly, OP...logic need not apply!

At any rate, this is really encouraging....isn´t it great to have the grownups in the "game" now?!

My fear, of course is the following: "...but a Democratic takeover of the House or Senate this November could force a rollback of some of those plans and revive debate about the introduction of the W76-2 warhead."

This November´s elections are SO critical!!

Re#5 Thats old news. We had the "nuclear torpedo" in service back in 1961. Its called the RUR-5 ASROC. The submarine launched version was the UUM-44 SUBROC.

The rule was, fire it and run like hades in the opposite direction.

Because of the Bikini Atoll nuke testing, the Navy changed the way the fleets sailed. Ships maintained a lot of distance between themselves so that one nuke couldnt take out the entire fleet.

One would use one to guarantee a carrier kill, or as an act of desperation.

#7, here´s the deal. We haven´t had the tactical nukes you speak of for sometime. After the Gulf war we dutifully dismantled ours while, as #5 says, the Russians and Chinese typically kept theirs. You can go back to the late 80s during the Intemediate Nuclear Forces treaty that got the ball rolling. I remember seeing Soviet inspectors at Ft. Sill monitoring the deactivation. This trend continued to the very low yield tactical nukes and atomic demolition munitions. So as the good guy we willingly gave up a much needed capability. Getting back low yield nukes is a good thing and a long time coming.

Charles Krauthammer made people understand their own thoughts. It was Charles who collated the various strands of Ronald Reagan’s foreign policy and codified them as the Reagan Doctrine in a Time Magazine essay in 1985. He did the same with the Bush Doctrine 16 years later—and his codification played a role in how Bush himself came to formulate his approach to the world following 9/11. And in 2009, Charles codified the Obama Doctrine as well, although not by that name, in a speech he turned into one of the great articles of our time, “Decline Is a Choice.” I was there when he delivered that speech and rushed up to him

The Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Hillary Clinton have a HUGE Weiner problem that is even bigger than we first realized. According to the recently released inspector general report, on September 28 and 29, 2016 the New York office of the FBI immediately reported to the Washington headquarters its discovery of, first, 141,000 and then 350,000 emails on the laptop of Anthony Weiner — also known as “Carlos Danger,” a now-convicted sex offender. Mr. Weiner is the husband of Hillary Clinton’s inseparable aide Huma Abedin. Now we know by October 4, the New York office had found 700,000 emails.

Throughout Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s massive report on the Hillary Clinton email investigation are lots of strange things. One of the weirdest is the extent to which the FBI went to make up words and phrases to disguise reality. An early draft of the 2016 FBI report on the email scandal was reportedly subjected to linguistic surgery to exonerate the former secretary of state, who at the time was the Democratic nominee for president. Clinton was originally found to be “grossly negligent” in using an illegal email server. That legalistic phrase is used by prosecutors to indict for violation of laws governing .

New York gubernatorial candidate and former “Sex and the City” star Cynthia Nixon on Thursday called U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “a terrorist organization” and called for its abolition, pitting progressive New Yorkers against Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Nixon made her remarks at a church on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, where an illegal immigrant is taking sanctuary after being threatened with deportation after she failed to show a driver’s license during a traffic stop by ICE agents. “ICE has strayed so far away from its mission. It is supposed to be here to keep Americans safe but what it has turned into,

The tweet was deleted, but not before actor James Woods snapped a screenshot and notified the Secret Service. Mr. Trump Jr. retweeted both of Mr. James’ messages condemning Mr. Dussault. (Tweets) Mr. Dussault later posted an apology to Twitter, saying he let his emotions concerning President Trump’s zero tolerance immigration policy get the better of him. “I sincerely apologize to Donald Trump Jr.

Judicial Watch today released newly obtained internal IRS documents, including material revealing that Sen. John McCain’s former staff director and chief counsel on the Senate Homeland Security Permanent Subcommittee, Henry Kerner, urged top IRS officials, including then-director of exempt organizations Lois Lerner, to “audit so many that it becomes financially ruinous.” Kerner was appointed by President Trump as Special Counsel for the United States Office of Special Counsel. The explosive exchange was contained in notes taken by IRS employees at an April 30, 2013, meeting between Kerner, Lerner, and other high-ranking IRS officials. The Minnesota Vikings made history on Thursday. Vikings players, coaches and members of the LGBTQ community came together for a first of its kind inclusion summit held by an NFL team. The LGBTQ summit and fundraising event was held at the TCO Performance Center Auditorium in Eagan. It centered around bridging the gap between the LGBTQ community and sports. (snip) Kluwe´s hope is that the NFL and other sports leagues take notice, and it sparks conversations leading to more acceptance of the LGBTQ community in the athletic world.

Taxes: Whatever you think about the issue of taxing internet sales, the simple fact is that the Supreme Court has just guaranteed that people across the country will now be paying more in state taxes. It´s hard for us to see how this is good news. In its 5-4 decision on South Dakota v. Wayfair, the court overturned two previous rulings that prevented states from taxing sales of out-of-state companies. That meant a catalog company based in Maine didn´t have to navigate 45 state sales-tax laws to figure out how much each customer owed, and then remit that money to the

How´s this for sneaky? Sen. John McCain, not too long after seeking conservative and Republican votes in his failed 2008 bid for the presidency, went right after those same conservative voters without telling them, by egging on the IRS to ruin them. It´s the sort of political back-stabbing that defies belief, taking an active role in destroying the Tea Party, which was an authentic grassroots movement of local groups calling for smaller government. An op-ed in Friday’s Washington Post by the long-time political pundit and conservative calls for voters to end the “carnage of Republican misrule” in Washington. Mr. Will claimed the “most telegenic example” of a need to oust Republicans exists with the administration’s “zero tolerance” policy regarding illegal immigrants along the U.S. southern border. “The Republican-controlled Congress, which waited for Trump to undo by unilateral decree the border folly they could have prevented by actually legislating, is an advertisement for the unimportance of
