Referendum To Split California Into 3

A new proposal to break up California into three states received enough signatures on Tuesday to make it onto the November 6 ballot. Now all it takes is a majority of California voters supporting it to start dismantling the country´s most populous, wealthy and radical state. The Los Angeles Times provides some more details on what would be "the first division of an existing U.S. state since the creation of West Virginia in 1863": If a majority of voters who cast ballots agree, a long and contentious process would begin for three separate states to take the place of California,

The part that would still be ´´California´´ under this scheme should, instead, be called ´´North Tijuana.´´

Draw a line west of Fresno from north to south, cut it away from the rest and let it float out to sea. I live just east of Fresno and would like some beach front property.
We´d get rid of L.A. , holly weird , silicone valley , and most especially the home of the feces and needle strewn haven known as San Francisco.

This looks like a good proposal. I cannot see anything parts of rural Ca. have in common with the leftist part of the state. I do not live there. If I did, I would vote to jettison Sacramento.

Exactly #4. This proposal comes from Silicon Valley. The more conservative parts of the state in the north gets diluted and overwhelmed by the Bay Area. Central Valley conservatives get diluted by the large number of Hispanics.

This scheme flips the US Senate for years.

I don’t trust the west coast rats. This could flip the senate. I want Calimehico to secede. My wish would be for all the left coast to leave the protection of America. Go back to your homeland Mexico. Go to your corruption, your language, your phony history, and become the biggest drug infested ,sex trafficking region to rival Thailand. I would plant the new volunteer military to protect that border and shoot to kill every illegal who comes within 100 feet of the fence. I can dream can’t I ?

I´m not sure about this, especially from a federal perspective. It has some disruption value, but it does look like "California" and "Northern California" would likely be blue. "Southern California" might be red, at least for presidential and governor votes, not sure about Senate and down-ballot state offices.

I´m in the OC, which is part of "Southern California". From a strictly local perspective, I like the idea of splitting off from LA, SF and the greater bay area.

This is not a split designed to give power to non-Leftist voters. The entire coastal region should have been one of the sections. But the way this is being done will do nothing but hand at least 2, possibly 4 additional senators to the Democrats. And the people with sense will still be taxed to ruin and culturally dragged through the mud by the elitist Leftist political leaders in SF and LA. Also, if you are familiar with the 20th Century history of the Los Angeles region, it has gone from typical suburban American to sizable majority Hispanic. Once beautiful San Francisco has gone from bohemian/arts to a dirty dangerous place with homeless people almost everywhere.

"Silicone valley" is the part of L.A. where breast implants are rife. And if any place deserves to be called "Tijuana Norte" it´s San Diego County, more than the central coast.

I´d nitpick those, but generally agree with most of the other Ldotter comments.

What would it do to electoral votes, and Congressional seats? Not sure we can presume they would remain the same. Who would be in charge of setting this up? A bunch of lefties? It already looks like a bunch of lefties have had a hand in it. Considering it would have nationwide impact, there should be some level of federal approval.

If you see Democrats happy about this idea, and pushing for it, then you know it wouldn´t be good for GOP and future elections.

It would certainly put the idea of how gerrymandered the CA districts currently are done, into a whole new process.

The democrats likely wouldn´t have the space to draw as favorable districts by diluting the votes of others.

It would also remove 54 automatic electoral votes going to democrats. Each state should then allow winner in each district to be allocated accordingly, not winner-take-all.

The hard part will be how to allocate funds that pay benefits and pensions for state workers.

To jettison LA county from NoCal and SoCal would be a huge, as what would be called California is the most blue area of CA.

Meaningless. Can´t be done, won´t be done, at least as far as representation at the Federal level. I suppose the state could vote to divide the CA into Kingdoms and govern with Kings, Queens and Knights, but THEY can´t decide on their own to create new ´states.´ Otherwise why not create 100 new CA ´states.´ and rule the rest of us? This new media and poorly educated public under the age of 50 will believe anything.

A better division plan:

From LA to Tiburon, 60 miles east to west is one state. The rest break into north and south. That way the Democrats get 2 senators and the GOP gets 4.

Or, keep north and south as one state giving the dems 2 and the GOP 2.

It´s been a while since I read the Constitution. But don´t states have to apply for admission to the Union? What´s to prevent Tennessee from splitting into 3 state: East Tenn, Middle Tenn, and West Tenn? In the past it was proposed that New York City become a separate state. Currently we have 50 states and 100 senators. That´s easy to remember. File it with DC´s proposal to become a state.

Let them split as their whims direct. But, the new entities become Territories, not States. Representation is observer status only. See how it all settles out after 20 years, then consider Statehood for one, two or all three. Congress can do all of this.

Throughout the 2016 Presidential campaign, then-candidate Donald Trump was clear that he intended to enforce our nation’s immigration laws. As commander-in-chief, President Trump and his Attorney General Jeff Sessions have dutifully kept that promise. But now that the laws are being faithfully executed, we are witnessing just how broken our system truly is. The way our immigration laws are currently constituted, they provide for two enforcement options: full enforcement or no enforcement. For the safety of our children, no enforcement is not an option. The Obama policy of catch and release served as a notice to all illegal aliens

Three-year-old Yanela Denise became the unintentional face of the now defunct family separation crisis after photographer John Moore captured her agonized face screaming as her mother was questioned by agents on June 12.
