Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein threatened to “subpoena” emails, phone records and other documents from lawmakers and staff on a Republican-led House committee during a tense meeting earlier this year, according to emails reviewed by Fox News documenting the encounter and reflecting what aides described as a "personal attack." The emails memorialized a January 2018 closed-door meeting involving senior FBI and Justice Department officials as well as members of the House Intelligence Committee. The account claimed Rosenstein threatened to turn the tables on the committee´s inquiries regarding the Russia probe.

Of course. Deep state swamp coup plotters need to keep their totalitarian control over the levers of government. Rosenstein and Herr Mueller are among the last holdovers unless Nasty Nancy and Chuck U Schumer and their hordes can steal an election.

An Executive Branch department can´t subpoena Legislative Branch records without 1) Presidential approval, and 2) Creating a Constitutional crisis. Congress has oversight of DOJ...it´s not the other way around.

Rosenstein is proving himself to be a Deep State operative, it would seem. He appears to be overplaying a very weak hand.

He was involved in the FISA abuse and Uranium One. Exactly how deeply and how directly, is - so far - unclear to me.

I tend to think he is dirty and covering up, but not certain.

So it´s just Debbie Wasserman Schultz he won´t subpoena.

I think it´s time for the President to step in and demand the Records. If they don´t do it. Fire them! Go right down the line until someone at DOJ follows his orders. I guess he could demand Sessions produce those records or resign first, then move on to Rosenstein. I think Rosenstein is dirty as they come and is hiding what he did from Congress. I wonder how many more like him are in DOJ! Time to put an end to this Cover up!

Never has anyone threatened like this before. This should let everyone know just how deadly damaging this information is to those involved. It´s time for President Trump to call all of their bluffs by declassifying all these records and forcing Sessions to get in gear and get this records out, lest they all lose their jobs for LACK of transparency.

It is obvious that Rosenstein does not understand Congressional oversight. If a Congressional Committee, exercising their Constitutional oversight power, requests information and/or documents, officials of the Executive Branch have a few options:

1. Provide the information and/or documents

2. Describe why producing the information and/or documents would be harmful to the country (not just harmful to a specific Executive Department). Potential reasons for being harmful include:

a. Requested information and/or documents would compromise national security

b. Requested information and/or documents violate Separation of Powers, e.g. are protected by Executive Privilege

c. Requested information and/or documents go beyond reasonable limits of Congressional oversight power

d. Other potential reasons specifically asserted by the Executive Branch. Such assertions must be supported by statute or precedent and may cause a Constitutional crisis

The Committee requesting (demanding) the information and/or documents has the power to hold government officials in Contempt of Congress for refusing their request (demand).

Rosenstein appears to believe that the DoJ has the power to provide oversight to a Congressional Committee and can unilaterally decide, without specifically stated justification, whether or not to comply with their requests for information and/or documents. He is wrong.

Americans are sick of the rampant obfuscation, deflection, stonewalling and lawlessness of the DoJ in particular and other Executive agencies as well.

Americans demand these offenses cease immediately and the responsible officials be dealt with harshly.

Rosenstein thinks he can open an investigation of anybody, and go through their life in search of a crime. I hope Rosenstein is fired. If Sessions will not supervise Rosenstein and assume the duties of AG, then Session should be fired.

This explains the impeeachment talks not long ago. Impeachment eliminates Rosie´s subpoena power. He is at the mercy of the COngress. Sure, the Dems in the Senate would protect one of their loyalist warriors. But once impeach, he would be ineffective in the Dept of Just-Us. Trump has every politiclly protected right to fire him. Then Congress can subpoena the Hades out of him and when he subpoenas back let the financial power of the US goobernment take over and ruin Rosie.

To my knowledge, Contempt of Congress, like Contempt of Court, is not a charge to be litigated. Allegations are not made and evidence produced to support them. The entity being held in contempt has no ability to challenge the allegations and demand that the authority who held them in contempt produce evidence.

Contempt is cited for willful refusal to comply with the lawful orders of a Congressional Committee or a judge without citing legal justification for doing so.

Rosenstein is just blowing smoke.

Rosenschwein does not seem to know the law as well as he thinks....the is the second time he is displaying his ignorance.
It´s time this piece of trash gets tossed and put in prison!
Time for the President to step in, force them to show all the evidence. Enough of redactions etc., all nothing but excuses to save their hide. The people in this country have a right and they are tired of the drip, drip and in particular of the drippy Rosenschwein, add to that the always absent Sessions.

Why would Rosenstein fortify this hill? Over Flynn? what is so threatening to the deep state in those documents. Rosenstein is prepared to fight with guns pointed at himself over the puny little Flynn? Even Mueller is backing out of the Flynn case as the man´s sentencing hearing keeps getting delayed - by who? Mueller himself because he also can not present to the court the charging documents.

I think they have been caught and do not know how to get out of their own trap. Their stalls are no longer working, time is rapidly running out, and their threats are as empty as Schumer´s head.

Christian leaders across the country have taken issue with Attorney General Jeff Session´s usage of the Bible as justification of his policy that is separating thousand of immigrant families at the border. Sessions cited Romans 13 to attempt to justify how separating families was ordained by God because ´orderly and lawful processes are good in themselves and protect the weak and lawful.´ For religious leaders who still weren´t pleased with his usage of scripture, he offered them to ´speak up strongly to urge anyone who would come here to apply lawfully, to wait their turn and not violate the law.´
