Mattis: ‘Everything I Love About America

Top Trump administration officials and Republican lawmakers offered heartfelt tributes to John McCain Tuesday night at the International Republican Institute’s annual freedom dinner, striking a marked contrast to the continued controversy facing the White House over its handling of a crude closed-door joke about the Arizona senator. “Tonight, there is a man standing here right beside me, and you and I can see him in our mind’s eye,” said Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, one of the Freedom Award recipients. “He’s a giant, in my mind, of American public life. He leads steadfastly, nothing can diminish him, he steadfastly represents the best

I respectfully disagree with the good General.

The dinner was a feel-goodtribute to a dying man. What could they say? Words. Make his family feel better. Then move on.

Relax. General Mattis does not disparage a dying person with whom he may not always agree.

Mega dittos #1 That hateful, wretched old coot has been mentioned more in the last month than in the entire year. I find it amazing that he has remained completely untarnished considering the fact that it is he who was instrumental in initiating the fraudulent Russia collusion investigation by Mueller. It its noted that his name is NEVER associated with that horrific disaster. Instead of being scorned he is suddenly revered just because he is now dying. He doesn´t deserved to be honored because of his duplicity.

Note the organization and the fact (in the article) that McCain was chairman of the organization for a long time.

I was not a fan of his, but there are times and places to register criticism. This dinner was clearly not the place. To criticize those who were there for doing the appropriate thing shows us to be gratuitously meanspirited. What point is there in that?

Mattis is a General. The one thing I learned about Generals when I was in the service and from my intense reading of history is, they use entirely different brain waves than everyone else. I´ll let him pass on this one because it does not matter one jot what is said, nothing will ever change what evil McCain has done.

a rose by any other name is still a rose.
and the character of John McCain is still that of John McCain. Some things, a spoken word or deed cannot be undone.
John McCain is a loathsome American. He has single handedly dismantled any honor he may have had as a service person and former POW.
The most human feeling I have for him is pity.

No one is saying Trump´s Def. Sec. should criticize McCain. However moderation is called for since McCain has been the loudest voice for decades for harming the people he´s supposed to be serving. He single handedly enabled the unwinnable foreign wars industry for which US taxpayers must pay, lose limbs, and die. He has caused more permanent human misery than any single human being in recent decades (eg Libya). The US Unwinnable War Industry is now well entrenched and controls the fed. gov. If McCain were a democrat, no one would be talking about him. He also made it impossible for the US to have the functioning two party system it desperately needs. With today´ one party system there are no checks and balances, ie , a dictatorship.

The article is from the Weekly Standard, which renders it highly suspect. I do agree that it would be inappropriate to disparage McCain in public remarks at an occasion of this nature. It is even more inappropriate to praise the lying weasel. To my mind, the best course of action would been to have simply avoided the event and say nothing.

Ain´t it great? A guy can fudge his way into the Naval Academy based on his Father and Grandfather´s high places. Then, a guy can come in second to dead last in the rankings, get a commission to fly, get shot down, kill some other navy guys in a foolish stunt, be recognized as a war hero. Dump your wife for a younger, richer woman. Declare war on his own party, cozy us to that fat-ass Teddy Kennedy, cozy up to Charles Keating, a money-man, run a weak presidential campaign and blame the loss on a woman who is twice the man that he is or ever will be, and then sit back and pontificate like a pompous noble. America is the land of opportunity.

He steadfastly represents the classic symptoms of selfishness egotistical self-centered obsession and a resentment against Trump and hatred of this country typical in an old man suffering from the progressive and fatal disease of alcoholism. I guess it would be tasteless and un-Officer like for him to bad mouth McMuffin, so he takes the high road and praises him, but we really know the rest of the story.

You could almost hear liberals gnash their teeth Monday night as President Trump nominated Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. They know they have almost no chance of preventing his confirmation. Kavanaugh is widely liked in Washington legal circles. He gave a humanizing introductory speech after the president introduced him at a White House ceremony. The judge has impeccable educational qualifications and already serves on the powerful U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. He is even respected by liberals such as Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan, who hired him to teach at Harvard Law School before she

Last week, on the MSNBC TV show "Morning Joe," MSNBC contributor Donny Deutsch said that every American who votes for President Donald Trump is a Nazi. His exact words: "If you vote for Trump, then you, the voter -- you, not Donald Trump -- are standing at the border like Nazis going, ´You here. You here.´" Now, as virtually every Jew of Deutsch´s generation knows, a Nazi saying, "You here. You here," refers to guards at Nazi extermination camps sending Jews to gas chambers or to work the barracks.

Sen. Jeff Flake has gone public with his threat to stall judicial nominations seeking action to rebuff President Donald Trump on tariffs. It comes more than a week after the Arizona Republican first held up the nomination of Britt Grant to be a judge on the Atlanta-based 11th Circuit Court of Appeals at the Judiciary Committee. “We’ve approved a number of judges. That is important,” Flake said Sunday. “But, Article I — the Congress, Article II — the executive, are important as well.”

I confess to being more weary than dizzy from the Dr. Gowdy–and–Mr. Trey routine. Just three weeks ago, Representative Gowdy, the South Carolina Republican who chairs the House Oversight Committee, assured us that everything was peachy with the FBI — no way, no how did the bureau “spy” on the Trump campaign when it deployed an “informant” to pry information from Trump-campaign officials. As Mollie Hemingway pointed out at the time, Gowdy had not seen relevant documents the FBI and Justice Department have been withholding from Congress — in fact, his spokeswoman said he did not even know what documents

The United States has resigned in protest from the UN Human Rights Council, which has a long and ignominious record of protecting the world’s worst abusers of human rights. The proximate cause of the U.S. resignation was the council’s unwillingness to act on the matter of Venezuela, where the socialist government of Nicolas Maduro is engaged in political massacres and the use of Soviet-style hunger-terror against its political enemies. Venezuela remains, incredibly enough, not only protected by the Human Rights Council but an active member of it, an honor shared Vladimir Putin’s Russia and its political assassins, the People’s Republic

South Florida’s not quite Jurassic Park, but it’s getting close. Packs of green iguanas are swarming seawalls, roaming yards and parks, and leaving a path of destruction and filth in their wake. Like a shot of espresso, the hot summer sun has stoked activity in the cold-blooded creatures, which experts say may be at record numbers. “This year is the most iguanas I’ve seen and I’ve been in business for nine years,” says Thomas Portuallo, owner of Fort Lauderdale-based Iguana Control.

Political correctness run amok is a popular topic on the right these days. Indeed, the conservative bookshelf is chock full of best-sellers devoted to the topic. Subject matters vary. One may focus on the hypocrisy of campus speech codes, another on the revisionist attempt to indict our founding fathers, yet another on secular progressivism’s relentless campaign against religious freedom. Still, progressive-inspired changes to our value system have made their mark — most notably during the eight-year reign of Barack Obama — and particularly among the generation popularly known as “Millennials.”

Judge Brett Kavanaugh is going into the Supreme Court confirmation process with a hail of rhetorical arrows zinging by him, including a phony letter-writing campaign aimed at unsuspecting American newspaper editors. At least 21 papers were duped last week, including big-market brands like the Dallas Morning News and The Washington Times. They ran identical letters over a four-day period, each signed by a different person. The effort is an example of public-relations ´astroturfing,´ a technique meant to simulate genuine grassroots support for an idea or cause.
