Obama fuel standards so

President Obama was always big on forcing bad things down the throat of the American voter and consumer. ´Time to eat your peas!´ he told Congress in 2011, foisting a massive hike in government spending on a Republican Congress in 2011. Obama was ´the good parent´ (to all us unruly, uppity young ´uns in the lowly electorate) and President Trump is all about eating candy, as Michelle Obama put it this year, in another example. And of course, there was Obamacare. One of the worst things Obama tried to foist on us, was in his executive orders to raise fuel standards on

Trump is the (almost) perfect replacement for Obama. A mild republican president would only fool around on the edges of Obama´s lousy programs. Just about all the activities of the last 8 years need to be sh!t canned. Trump is doing it.

The ridiculous Obama fuel standards were to be used as a negotiating tool, to force auto makers into a position of accepting the real objectives of the administration.

Fines, sanctions, and ultimately ruin of the automakers would make them kowtow to the administration, which would then ´´review´´ and adjust the standards to more ´´reasonable´´ levels. What were the real objectives of the Obama administration? The same things that cause corruption in all of politics...

The fuel standard that really needs to be revoked is The Compassionate Conservative´s legacy ethanol mandate. This massive corporate welfare program benefits Archer Daniels Midland and others, but sharply reduces fuel economy, increases smog levels, reduces engine life, makes engines run hotter, results in excess fertilizer runoffs into our waterways, consumes water, etc. Deleting this program would be a huge boon environmentally and economically, and yet The Donald for reasons unknown supports it.

Forcing us into cars averaging over 50 mpg was guaranteed to be expensive, and the cars would be more complex, and smaller. Already moving towards trying to get their cars up to this average gas mileage, more 2018 cars have turbochargers on the engines. This makes more HP from a smaller engine, helping the gas mileage at greater initial cost, a short durability turbocharger and much more complexity under the hood. How many people will be happy when their car needs new $1385 turbo (actual price for 2018 Accord), plus probably $500 installation labor, far sooner than modern engines need an overhaul?

Will the improved fuel economy EVER make economic sense when we are forced into buying more expensive engine systems and replacing them more often at very high costs?

"Nobody could make them buy a car they didn´t like."

But BO had a plan for that as well. Punish consumers by making gas ultra expensive. $10/gal. Of course they denied that unpopular intent publicly but then squeezed oil supplies by denying offshore drilling and pipeline expansions.

But the market undermined BO. Fracking unloaded a glut of oil from private lands that BO had no control over. Gas prices plummeted and shored up an economy rocked by BO´s other idiotic policies.

Dems never question the sanity of their policies, just try to figure out how to enforce them better the next time. They never accept that central planning is a failed ideology that destroys economies and countries. We should pack up all the central planners and send them on a year sabbatical to Venezuela to learn how to do central planning right.

Even Democrats can only take so much. That is what makes me believe in the pendulum. Politics are really about individual human beings. Each has his own tolerance level.

Yeah? And??
Again, and for the umpteenth time: this abomination was pepetrated by
a) the diktats of the Federal EPA, an agency that, per the Constitution, should not even exist!. But it does, "courtesy" of the statist nitwit, Dick Nixon, a Republicrat you may remember. And Not One Single Republicrat in the last 40+ years has seriously moved to ABOLISH it. Obama used the weapons that the GOP-e types made available, and that the next Dumbocrap President will also use.
b) the EPA (spit, spit) used the unconstitutional methodology of "agency law", issuing regulations having force of law, using the Administrative Procedures Act. Where is the move in the Congress to REPEAL it, and to retroactively trash all the regs that Ovomit and is like preceding him have foisted off on the nation?

I don´t believe here in Italy, mileage is mandated and I don´t think it should be. Lemme tell you what having a car that gets more than 70 mpg is like. It´s great. It´s a small four door hatch made by Suzuki with a Fiat 1.3 litre diesel 4 cylinder engine with a 5 speed. Lots of torque and it cruises all day at 75 mph with ease. The model is Ignis and it´s about 10 years old. Repair wise all it has needed has been a set of glow plugs, an alternator, water pump and a clutch. A sepentine belt every few years and that´s been it. I´m at about 135K miles right now

The not so good is that diesel fuel is about 6 bucks a gallon and the tank is smallish but I go about 750km on a fill up. They aren´t so bad these smaller cars that get fantastic mileage.

Democrats painted President Trump´s nominee to lead the Central Intelligence Agency, Gina Haspel, as some sort of torture-minded anti-Muslim terrorist fanatic. Like most of us care whether terrorists busy trying to kill us end up getting tortured. It wasn´t true and was boring as hell. Now that she has finally been confirmed as CIA Director, it turns out they were doing something more than just smearing her, they were withholding her real story that we as Americans needed to have, which is that she has major expertise on our top espionage adversary, Russia. According to PBS: She´s sure to tap that latter

The legacy left by Richard Pipes, a historian of Russia who taught at Harvard who died yesterday at the age of 94, rightly should include the fall of the Soviet Empire and the liberation of Eastern Europe. His family, including his son, Daniel Pipes, who, as president of The Middle East Forum, is performing a similar contribution on the resurgent forces of jihad, has my deepest condolences. Even the New York Times obituary of Professor Pipes acknowledges his contribution in turning the United States away from a strategy of accepting Soviet dominance of Eastern Europe and its role as champion of

After sacrificing fifty of their prized terrorists in their latest stunt to discredit Israel in the past week, was it really worth it to Gaza´s Hamas rulers? Based on at least one surprising press account describing the phony staged event, it looks as if the trick fell flat. Get a load of what the liberal-lefty, hoity-toity, Euro-infused Economist is reporting about it: Every state has a right to defend its borders. To judge by the numbers, Israel´s army may well have used excessive force. But any firm conclusion requires an independent assessment of what happened, where and when. The Israelis sometimes used

Can the New York Daily News report anything fairly or honestly? Fresh off this week´s earlier low, calling Ivanka Trump a ´ghoul´ in a dishonest juxtaposition of her attendence at the U.S. embassy ribbon-cutting ceremony in Jerusalem, and some unrelated terrorists getting themselves slaughtered in Gaza, the News is now falsely claiming that President Trump called immigrants ´animals. For the record, Trump called MS-13 gang members ´animals,´ not immigrants. MS-13 is a notoriously foul gang that lives by the law of the jungle, engaging in revenge killings, extortion, kidnapping, murder for gang initiation,

It´s couched in oh so delicate terms, as pretty much everyone mourns the death of the great Tom Wolfe: Tom Wolfe was a reporter, Tom Wolfe was an observer. Tom Wolfe eyed status-seeking. Tom Wolfe skewered the establishment. And through his incredible mastery of words, he entertained the hell out of us. Yes, true enough. But somehow he never got a Nobel prize in literature, despite vastly outranking almost everyone else who has. So I guess I am corrupting things a little when I state the obvious about Wolfe: He did write, he did observe, he did skewer, and by gosh it

He was 87. His death was confirmed by his agent, Lynn Nesbit, who said Mr. Wolfe had been hospitalized with an infection. He had lived in New York since joining The New York Herald Tribune as a reporter in 1962. In his use of novelistic techniques in his nonfiction, Mr. Wolfe, beginning

A so-called lava chaser has ignored evacuation orders to film car-sized ´lava bombs´ being flung hundreds of feet in the air during the continuing volcanic eruptions in Hawaii. Despite continued earthquake activity at the Kilauea Volcano, professional photographer Demian Barrios, armed with an iPhone, ignored strict evacuation orders to don a helmet and gas mask to live stream ‘lava bombs’. When two new fissures opened on Hawaii’s Big Island over the weekend, forcing more residents to evacuate, Mr Barrios, who describes himself as a ‘lava junkie’, went in search of the red hot molten rock. Describing himself as a lava chaser, he told

Donald Trump has stayed uncharacteristically quiet on Twitter without posting a single tweet about the royal wedding. The President, who is usually especially active on the social media network early in the day, did not tweet anything all morning about the nuptials between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, which ended at 9.00am ET. Rumors swirled about whether Trump would be invited to the wedding at Windsor Castle in Berkshire, but he was eventually left off the guest list, along with other political leaders. Prominent figures who made the cut included Oprah Winfrey, George and Amal Clooney and the Beckhams. Other A-listers including Idris

What does it mean to be sixth in the line of royal succession to an office that depends solely and exclusively on who your father is? It means that five family members have to die before you get the real goodies. Granted, those goodies are amazing. More than 700 students and guests are registered to attend Harvard´s first Black Commencement, which will take place two days before the school´s traditional graduation events. Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton acknowledged Friday that Democratic candidates around the country still face basic questions about what they stand for and which policies their party supports. Speaking at a Democrat Women’s Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C., Clinton urged party leaders to return to the basics and lay out the party’s values for voters. Fair wages, the “absolute promise of universal health care,” public school funding, gun safety reform and equal pay were at the top of the former first lady’s agenda items that she thought should stay central to the Democratic Party’s platform.

John McCain always said he’d go down fighting, and so he has, dickering from his deathbed over CIA nominee Gina Haspel and pre-emptively disinviting President Donald Trump from his funeral, then leaving as a legacy some fierce final words for the leader of his party, who is now a political enemy. All Trump displays is “a reality-show facsimile of toughness,” the six-term Arizona senator and former GOP presidential candidate, who for a generation of Washington politicians has defined genuine toughness, writes in his forthcoming memoir.
