Why does replacing food stamps

President Trump has proposed replacing some food stamp grants with actual food. This has curiously enraged liberals, who you would think would be delighted to see "hungry" people getting food. The Trump administration is proposing a major shake-up in one of the country´s most important "safety net" programs, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps. Under the proposal, most SNAP recipients would lose much of their ability to choose the food they buy with their SNAP benefits. But if you like your supermarket, you can keep your supermarket, right? Under the proposal, which was announced Monday, low-income Americans who receive

They are mad because they are not using SNAP money for food. They want money, not food.

I seem to recall in my youth some kind of commodity program. It was quite useful and provided a lot of GI families with needed food.
(Remember, pay was very pathetic for GIs during the Vietnam war.)

Many years ago, when my kids were little, we were struggling pretty hard to put food on the table. We were eligible for assistance, but, i wouldn´t take it for being too proud and my wife gave me some angst for it. But, working two jobs and doing weekend fixes and help for folks got us through. But, right in front of our house where we lived at that time, the monthly "Commodities Truck" would pull up. People with welfare cards would line up at the back and the driver and his assistant would roll up the back door and out would come hams, and sides of bacon, and wheels of cheese and powdered milk in 5 gallon buckets and sugar by the ten pound sack and four in 25 pound sacks and giant tubs of butter (the real stuff). Each person would get so much they had to stack it on the sidewalk in front of our house. All we could do is look on in amazement. Almost all the people collecting the goodies were mexicans. A while alter, I had come into some money for a pretty good home repair I had done and we went out to eat at a restaurant, and sure enough, there in the trash bin as we drove up were empty buckets of the commodities had been given out. believe me, no family could eat all the food the government was throwing out the back of that truck, so, naturally, they would sell it- and a lot of it ended up in the hands of restaurant owners and pig farmers.

- there is no way to give folks free stuff without corruption taking a chunk of it.

I agree. I watch people buying grocery carts full of fresh chicken, hamburger, Cokes and Mountain Dew by the case. They can’t possibly have freezer storage for all these items. I strongly suspect they are supplying “under-the counter” grocery stores out of their house.

Funny that liberals have no problem with food banks providing boxes of food.
I have long suspected that EBT card money is being used for cigarettes and beer through the selling of food. then they go to the food bank and get their food. I volunteered at a monthly food distribution event 1 time. Hundreds of people show up in cars better than mine. They pull out lawn chairs and queue up waiting for the stuff to be available. They drink coffee and smoke cigarettes and all know each other. Then they come through with shopping carts provided by the organization giving out the food. They go through the line and are very choosy about what they want. Will never do it again.

Limit the types of food SNAP cards can be used for- no soda, no candy, no snack-chips.
All approved food must be nutritionally dense.

Pres. Trump is interrupting the entire Bodega money exchange system in low-income neighborhoods. Will force many corner stores to charge competitive prices for goods that actually exist.

When they used to give out actual ´stamps´ in Battle Creek, MI that you had to show up at Social Services to get, there was a bar conveniently right across the street. You could go there on the 1st of the month and buy all the food stamps you wanted for 50 cents on the dollar. That is what I think of the food stamp program.

The federal government has no business doing charity.
The constitution doesn´t allow it in the first place.
This is why it is important to resist the left when they change the meaning of words. Calling charity ´welfare´ tricked people into thinking it was a legitimate thing for government to do when it is not.

#9, if they followed your guidelines their carts would be empty. Well, except for donuts and cookies and twinkies.

My wife remembers an incident almost twenty years ago where the cashier would not allow a woman to use food stamps to buy gourmet dog food. The woman said, "Well, I´ll just take these back and buy my dog steaks, and she did.

When volunteering at tlhe food bank a few years ago, hardly any of the ´clients´ had the first idea how to cook from scratch, which anyone knows is the most economic way to feed a family. Poster #14, some years ago, I was behind a woman who was arguing with the cashier about the brown eggs she wanted to buy with food stamps. I guess, they weren´t on the list of ´approved´ foods. I had to bite my tongue to tell her there was absolutely no difference between brown or white eggs, except the breed of chicken that laid them. Control over people is achieved by disconnecting their behavior from their condition in life. Don´t want to work or do the things that prepare you to be self sufficient, no problem you get to live in the same conditions as those who pay for you.

Believing that your neighbor owes you that is undignified. Walking into a soup kitchen because you are hungry, your children are hungry, is not the least bit undignified. Volunteering to help cook serve or clean in that kitchen is down right noble.

It´s upside down and all about the control required to create the next communist experiment resulting human disaster. As the eminent philosopher Bullwinkle said to one Rocket J Squirrel, "this time for sure."

Here’s how it works:
1) Use fake ids to get snap cards
2) Sell the cards for 50% of face value to bodega owners
3) Bodega owners process the cards, reducing their “official” inventory
4) Bodega owners sell the “off the books” goods for cash, bypassing the register

I really don´t have a problem with food stamps, most of the people who get them use them appropriately. But I see no reason why the types of foods you can buy with them cannot be limited. As a poster above said, SNAP is a welfare program for stores that sell groceries.

Liberals want their socialist programs to be easily defrauded by criminals & illegal aliens. No liberal has ever asked about the existence of fraud in federal programs. Just like Vote Fraud - the liberal response is always that it does not exist. Nor do liberals ever allow any inquiry into the usefulness or effectiveness of their socialist programs. The point is to spend Other People´s Money, not to accomplish anything with it.

Another benefit of the food program years ago was that the government either bought the cheese from the farmers or someone made it for the government to give away to the welfare people. I remember reading about storage areas in mountains (??) where all the cheese was stored until it was given away. A long, long time ago. And you know how farmers like those government $$´s too.

First, let me say no one should be able to buy a wedding cake with an EBT card and it happens. I am out in my community all the time and the discrimination against whites and elderly white people with free food distribution is disgusting. Second Harvest delivers locally to the ghetto. Blacks are preregistered and get the best boxes of food out the door first and claim seven people live with seniors. They do not want white elderly low income people to show up and if they do, they get next to nothing and sometimes rotten fruit. Blacks will sell the food and they are no different when they become seniors.

If they go to this system, guess who gets boxes of food? Many older people do not drive to go to pick food up nor do they qualify for Meals on Wheels. Someone was told they could get Meals on Wheels but it would cost $4 a day.
Sick of the expectations that only minorities deserve "free"

The elite’s embrace of globalism has choked off recognition of ordinary Americans—those without a recognized grievance—in favor of the outer of the concentric circles of human relations: aliens and foreigners. Trump’s presidency—particularly in its rebellion against globalism—has brought distributive justice for these forgotten Americans and apoplexy to the elites.
