Portraits And They Are . . . Interesting

Monday morning, the Smithsonian´s National Portrait Gallery unveiled their official portraits of former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle. And while both portraits are the work of avant garde contemporary artists, in this case they might be just a touch too avant garde. Barack Obama´s portrait was done by pop artist Kehinde Wiley, who is well known for his hyper-realistic portraits of African American men and women, often done in the style of the Old Masters or with backgrounds familiar to fans of classical, "old world" European art. Wiley recreated Obama´s likeness in his trademark hyper-realistic way, with Obama

I just knew we would get to see her bare arms. The artist didn´t quite capture the angry black woman with the chip on her shoulder persona.

Her portrait looks like a young tanned white woman (with freakishly large hands).

The face on his portrait looks like he is sitting on the toilet with severe constipation.

I honestly don´t get the idea of painted portraits any more. We have great photography, and Photoshop to make it even prettier. At least a photo of Moo-chelle might have looked a little bit like her...

It doesn´t look like her, even if you can see beyond that dress. Artists seems to be a Gauguin wannabe. His has an odd setting.

Both paintings have too many image messages crammed in which detract from the two portrayed.

I suspect the artist was trying to render what Michael Obama would look like if he were a woman.
Barry´s picture is perfect. All that foliage is the perfect backdrop for a fruit.

Seated on the "throne" and legs spread, Barry Soetoro is pictured doing what he did to our country for eight long years. Looking at it that way, I declare the portrait appropriate.

I must agree with #5, my first impression was Stinky was sitting on a toilet. Throw in his arms crossed defensively in front of him and an insolent look on his face, not even remotely warm, open and inviting. So yeah, well portrayed.

P.S. I think my cat could do a better job of painting their portraits, but, hey, if they want to look utterly stupid for future generations, who am I to stop them?

Some artsy types may love it. I am certain others are laughing but they will never divulge their real opinion publicly. I searched for more of this “artist’s” work and found the common threads, black females looking fierce and oh catch the one with a black woman holding the severed head of a white woman/person. It absolutely makes perfect sense WHY the Obamas love this fellow! Kathy Griffin will wonder why an artist who painted THAT would be A ok with the PC crowd!

Looking at many of this prolific "artist´s" paintings, you see a common theme. It looks like she got the expressions from the morgue- they are all this plain, bland, expressionless, as in death, look about them. for women, that pale blue, sun burnt 1963 Ford Falcon flat is common, and for the men, the same expressionless face but with super busy background, that seems to absorb the subject in a dizzying sea of sameness, making all life seem to just evaporate out of the painting. The artist, Amy Sherald, is supposed to be a "Black Revolutionary" expressionist. And really, she is just a pretend artist with not the slightest understanding of what makes a painting come alive. She seems fixated, instead, on death and hopelessness. One thing for sure, she caught a sale on that uni-flat pale blue background paint.

Hmmm. President Lyndon Obama? So finally, someone stands up to remind the media that when it comes to the FBI and CIA spying on a political opponent of a president - America has in fact been here before. Admittedly, it helps to have been around at the time of the Johnson-Goldwater election in 1964. Not to call attention to age, but I was an eager-beaver eighth grader from a Republican family who, wonderfully ignorant about the history of the American Left, crusaded in my own fashion for LBJ. If you weren’t already disgusted with how far left the American university system has gotten, this should pretty much set you over the edge. You may remember former Drexel and present NYU ‘scholar-in-residence’, Professor George Ciccariello-Maher, from his now infamous “All I want for Christmas is white genocide” tweet that went viral last year and ultimately sparked enough backlash that Drexel terminated him.Ciccariello-Maher’s twitter account is a sickening mix of anti-American, anti-male, and anti-white rhetoric (ironic considering he is a white American man) but this sort of far-left self-hatred is far too common these days.

He was an old-school journalist, a patriot, a man who came of age covering World War II as a wire-service reporter and then taking over as the anchor of “The CBS Evening News” at the height of the Cold War. Like most journalists of his generation, he embraced the fight against communism and understood why the United States had intervened in the war raging in Vietnam.
