Ballet After Misconduct Allegations

After accusations of sexual harassment and physical and verbal abuse, Peter Martins, the powerful leader of New York City Ballet who shaped the company for more than three decades, has decided to retire. “I have denied, and continue to deny, that I have engaged in any such misconduct,” Mr. Martins, 71, wrote in a letter dated on Monday informing the board of his retirement, which takes effect immediately. Mr. Martins, who has been on leave as the company investigates his actions, added, “I cooperated fully in the investigation and understand it will be completed shortly. I believe its findings would have vindicated

Glad I’m retired - I wouldn’t last a week in any workplace today.

I am female and I state unequivocally that this is beginning to look like the Salem Witch Trials. There is actual harassment and then there is what goes on in the real world, and a lot of women are beginning to look like Snowflakes. Anything a man says is harassment, if he touches your back once by mistake (Jeffrey Tambor) he is evil, even when he apologizes. I am NOT speaking about the Weinsteins, even the Dustin Hoffman´s (what a shame as I always admired him) who use their power to either rape, harass or embarrass women. I am talking about run of the mill commentary and actions. I believe Martins, it goes without saying.

Peter Martins shaped the company with a great deal of $$$$$ help from Anne Bass. I remember when he was Anne Bass’s very favorite some years back.

I always thought sexual harassment and physical and verbal abuse were part of ballet. George Balanchine comes to mind...

Our 28 year old daughter is a professional dancer - ballerina. And she attended a residentialballet h,s, in another country.
She has not talked about sexual abuse, but the physical and psychological stuff reigns supreme, in an occupation the requires perfection. Weight is a critical factor in personal appearance, height, especially for women, is critical. There are no ´too tall jones´ female ballerinas.

It helps that our daughter is a perfectionist, like most ballerinas.

This "Me Too" crap is out of control. I would like to start a "Not Me too" movement. Obviously, the Left has nothing else to write about these days. Most of these Ashley Judd´s are has been actresses and Hillary supporters...aka Losers, typical feminists, always complaining, always playing the victim looking to blame someone else for their insecurities.

Successful busy women don´t have time for this.

A ballet company is defined by its balletmaster, and based on the excellence of the NYC Ballet, Martins is superb at his job. If balletmasters and coaches and music teachers of all types, are now to be forbidden to yell and scream and lose their tempers, or heaven forbid, touch a pupil, it might make for easy sailing for students, but rest assured those students will not reach the heights that they might have had the full humanity of their instructor been allowed to express itself. As we say here on Lucianne.com, liberals destroy everything in their path. Much like locusts.

Ballet companies treat their young dancers like Kleenex. Use one up, throw it away and another will pop up.

Since the 2008 Recession when donor/subscribers turned their backs on companies, there are millions of ballet dancers, from high school drop-out hopefuls to college degreed dancers trying to get the same jobs at even the lowest entry level. Many will apprentice for free or even have parents make large contributions to the company or subsidize their child´s hospitalization and living expenses on the small chance a "job may open up next year".

No dancer is going to bite the hand that feeds them and company´s creative personnel feel no obligation to treat or even pay the dancers well.(See Kleenex analogy).

Peter Martins is not the worst autocrat but maybe the most visible. In the USA the NYCB and SAB are the most professionally organized of all the professional companies including,in my estimation, ABT and SFB. To see real dancer abuse, look at 3rd and 4th tier ballet companies in cities under 200,000. "Everything is beautiful at the ballet" but not in the ballet.

Hillary Clinton was not a role model
Washington Examiner [DC], by Noemie Emery    Original Article

The New York Times dragged out a sanitized version of Hillary Clinton once again, in a lament that she had to expire politically to create an uprising. But people who want to see women advancing in politics should be glad that she lost. Clinton was not a role model, as her model wasn’t available to anyone who hadn’t married a president. A bad politician, she was dependent upon him, and when he turned out to be a chronic seducer and even abuser of women, she was willing to threaten and even destroy his victims to assure his success. Hillary Clinton’s biggest moments

Uranium Indictment in Maryland
Not ´Coincidental,´ Tom Fitton Says

A Maryland transportation firm executive´s indictment last week in the FBI investigation of a corrupt uranium deal was not "coincidental," Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton suggested on Fox and Friends Monday morning. The charges come after reports released in late December revealed that the Justice Department was taking a fresh look at the Uranium One deal that gave a Russian company control of 20 percent of the U.S. uranium industry while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state. Fitton couldn´t say for sure if the fresh scrutiny led to the indictment, but added, "It´s, I don´t think, coincidental, a few months after it´s

Georgia lawmaker Rep. John Lewis said he gets taunted in public, recalling a specific account of boarding a plane where someone was shouting "Trump!" at him. On Lift Every Voice, a new podcast by Sen. Cory Booker, Lewis said the taunt happened on a recent flight he had taken from Atlanta to Washington. "I was coming back to Washington on Sunday night," Lewis said. "I was on a flight from Atlanta. And I´m walking down the aisle and the gentleman said as loud as he could, ´Trump!´ So I didn´t — I just kept walking. I didn´t say anything. And sometimes I´m

Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards explained how the abortion giant’s business model works in a Monday interview, unveiling the various ways the company seeks to further its business activities. Richards encouraged pro-abortion civilians to come up with and act on their own creative ideas. She referred to the numerous Planned Parenthood products on Etsy like T-shirts, candles, buttons, and hats that advertise the abortion organization’s activities. “Don’t wait for instructions. Just do it, whatever it is you’re going to do,” Richards told FastCompany in an interview. “It’s going to be everybody doing their part.” Richards also touted the abortion organization’s text-chat service, which

"It All Depends on What Oprah Does": Why Bernie
Sanders Democrats are Raining on the Oprah Parade
Vanity Fair, by Chris Smith    Original Article

The Oprah-for-president endorsements began rolling in even before Oprah Winfrey had finished her rousing Golden Globes speech. Hollywood Democrats loved the idea (Meryl Streep: “I want her to run”). Elected Democrats cheered (Congresswoman Jackie Speier: “Run, Oprah, run!”). Campaign operative Democrats swooned (“Call me,” tweeted the Iowa state director of Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election effort). One key group, however, isn’t buying the hype: actual democratic Democrats, the mostly young, grassroots insurgents who propelled Bernie Sanders in his surprisingly strong 2016 primary bid. Their rejection of Oprah is a preview of the intramural battle that’s beginning to rage again between the pragmatic

Hillary Clinton, the first woman who had a real shot at the presidency, has finally set off a national awakening among women. The only catch? She did it by losing. In the year since a stoic Mrs. Clinton watched as Donald J. Trump was sworn in as the 45th president, a fervor has swept the country, prompting women’s marches, a record number of female candidates running for office and an outcry about sexual assault at all levels of society. Even those women who disliked Hillary-the-candidate or who backed her opponent Senator Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary now credit the indignities and

Why would my 22-year-old brother be calling so early on a Saturday morning? I’d ignored the first call. But the second time the phone rang, I picked it up. He was panicking, his voice trembling uncharacteristically: He’d just received the emergency alert warning of a ballistic missile that was heading for Hawaii, where I’m from, and where he and my family still live. “THIS IS NOT A DRILL,” the alert read. My brother was alone, and had no idea what to do or where to go. And he wouldn’t have had much time to figure out a game plan—some estimates

Mitt Romney took a swipe at Donald Trump on Monday, condemning the crude comments the president was said to have made about Haiti and African countries -- calling them “inconsistent (with) America’s history and antithetical to American values” with a reference to Martin Luther King, Jr. The poverty of an aspiring immigrant’s nation of origin is as irrelevant as their race,” Romney tweeted. “The sentiment attributed to POTUS is inconsistent w/America’s history and antithetical to American values. May our memory of Dr. King buoy our hope for unity, greatness, & ‘charity for all.’”

This Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the NAACP wants man-made global warming to be seen as a civil rights issue, arguing King’s vision of a society free of racial injustice can’t be achieved without addressing warming. “We see climate change as a civil rights issue,” Jacqueline Patterson, head of the NAACP’s environmental and climate justice program, said in an online radio spot for the Yale Center for Environmental Connection. Environmental activists have been increasingly framing global warming as a matter of “environmental justice,” since “minority and low-income populations are disproportionately affected by global warming,” Patterson told Yale’s online radio Climate

The most recent attack on the president is designed to throw him off balance during the debate on immigration. Senator Durbin, doing his best Claude Rains imitation, stated, "I cannot believe that, in the history of the White House, in that Oval Office, any president has ever spoken the words that I personally heard our president speak yesterday." Durbin was responding to Trump´s alleged comment that Haiti, El Salvador, and certain African countries are "s---holes." Many of the reports omit mention of El Salvador because it does not fit the anti-black allegations. Senator Durbin is not a young man, and he

NBC plans to televise any players who refuse to stand for “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Super Bowl, but there may be nothing to show. It appears that NFL players are no longer taking a knee during the national anthem, namely because none of the teams with still-active protesters has qualified for the postseason. By the end of the regular season, only five teams featured at least one player regularly sitting or kneeling on the sidelines for the anthem: the Seattle Seahawks, the San Francisco 49ers, the Miami Dolphins, the New York Giants and the Oakland Raiders. This is the shocking moment a massive brawl broke out in a California pizza restaurant over a missing iPhone that turned out to have been in the lost and found the whole time. Police were called to John´s Incredible Pizza Company in Newark´s NewPark Mall on Saturday night after violence erupted. It broke out after a girl missing her phone had approached a group to see if they´d seen it but quickly descended into chaos, with video showing two large groups of people exchanging blows and screaming at each other. Newark police officers had to call in officers from the Fremont Police Department
