Ethics Committee clears Rep. Devin Nunes

The House Ethics Committee on Thursday cleared Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, of allegations that he disclosed classified information earlier this year. Nunes was forced to step aside from the helm of the committee’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, including alleged collusion with President Donald Trump’s allies, in the wake of his March statement that members of the Trump transition team had their communications legally monitored by the U.S. intelligence community. The Ethics Committee, however, announced Thursday that it would close its investigation following consultation with experts in the classification process, a step that

Comments:
How nice that they cleared him of the fraudulent charges. As far as we can see it has not slowed him down. He is more strident than ever in getting to the truth. If the truth be known the group that made that bogus claim was probably pushed by the odious crapweasel Adam Schiff. He, like Jeff Sessions, never should have stepped down in the first place.

Prior to President Donald Trump’s visit to the opening of the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum today, Fox & Friends brought on Trump supporter and former sheriff David Clarke to discuss the president’s appearance. And things got very tense very fast. Right off the bat, co-host Pete Hegseth asked Clarke what he thought about Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), a civil rights icon, deciding not to attend the opening because Trump would be in attendance. Clarke reacted by immediately dismissing Lewis. “John who?” Clarke mocking stated. “John Lewis — he was bloodied on the Selma bridge, Sheriff, when trying to protest voting

Roger Goodell’s NFL contract is a slap

The decision by the NFL Compensation Committee on Wednesday to give Commissioner Roger Goodell a five-year contract extension that could top out at nearly $40 million a year is pure craziness. NFL owners are watching their brand implode and TV ratings for games plummet under a reckless commissioner – and they fail to see that Goodell is running the wrong game plan. Giving Goodell a huge compensation package like this – 90 percent of it tied to incentives – is like giving Hillary Clinton an award for outstanding email practices and honesty. Goodell’s contract extension is a slap in the face

The first of four Chicago suspects accused of beating and torturing a disabled teenager and broadcasting the attack on Facebook has pleaded guilty, but a judge let her off without prison time, a report says. Brittany Covington, 19, pleaded guilty to a hate crime in court on Friday, according to the Chicago Tribune. The suspect also “pleaded guilty to aggravated battery and intimidation charges. As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dropped additional charges, including kidnapping,” the Tribune said. Despite the guilty plea, Cook County Circuit Judge William Hooks released Covington without jail time. Telling Covington, “Do not mess this

Hillary Clinton´s Russia collusion

If the media are defining “collusion” as President Trump’s team being willing to accept potentially beneficial information from Russia in the 2016 election, all future cable news analysis on the issue should include a disclaimer: Hillary Clinton’s campaign did precisely the same thing and more! There is no real consensus about what any collusion between Trump’s campaign and Russia would have entailed (which is helpful for Democrats and self-interest-driven Republicans like Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., in maintaining a scandalous fog over the White House) but news reports typically discuss it with ominous references to campaign advisers and aides who had any

Case Closed: FBI says Sessions

The FBI has put to bed a controversy whipped up by liberal critics of Attorney General Jeff Sessions over his contacts with foreign officials including Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the 2016 presidential campaign. An FBI email released through the Freedom of Information Act said that Sessions had no obligation to reveal any contacts with foreign officials unless he “developed personal relationships” with them. The bottom line: His two contacts with Kislyak in 2016 did not have to be revealed to the FBI on his SF-86 security clearance application, part of his confirmation process. Sessions has repeatedly denied that he

California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) says President Trump´s stance on climate change demonstrates that he does not appear to fear the "wrath of God" or have any regard for the "existential consequences" of his climate change policies. “I don’t think President Trump has a fear of the Lord, the fear of the wrath of God, which leads one to more humility ... this is such a reckless disregard for the truth and for the existential consequences that can be unleashed,” Brown said in an interview on CBS´s "60 Minutes," which is set to air on Sunday. Rep. Hakeen Jeffries (D-N.Y.) blasted President Trump’s Friday campaign rally in Pensacola, Fla., in a tweet Saturday, labeling it a “hatefest.” The tweet also appeared to blast Roy Moore, the GOP Senate candidate in Alabama, as "a racially insensitive homophobe." “Is he referring to the HATEFEST on the Alabama border designed to bolster a racially insensitive homophobe?” Jeffires tweeted. (Snip) Trump’s rally came just days before the Alabama special election to fill Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ former seat. While the White House maintained Trump wouldn’t go to Alabama to campaign for Moore, the Pensacola rally took place just miles away

MONTGOMERY, Alabama — Frank Luntz, a GOP establishment messaging consultant, was visibly flabbergasted as every single one of his focus group participants in a Birmingham area Vice News-produced panel backed Judge Roy Moore for U.S. Senate. Titled “Why These Alabama Voters Are Sticking By Roy Moore,” Luntz’s Vice News focus group aired on Vice News Tonight on Dec. 8 on HBO. “Are you all Christians here?” Luntz opens the seven-and-a-half-minute long segment. “Yes,” all of the focus group participants, who joined Luntz in a Birmingham area restaurant, replied. “Is Roy Moore a good Christian?” he followed up. “Yes,” one woman replied. “Absolutely,” another said. “Absolutely?”

California´s governor has said that deadly wildfires in the winter will be ´the new normal´, as fire crews rushed to contain the fires, with dry desert winds expected to intensify over the weekend. Governor Jerry Brown on Saturday toured Ventura County neighborhoods ravaged by a weeklong wildfire that killed at least one person and destroyed hundreds of homes and other buildings. At a news conference, the Democrat said drought and climate change mean California faces a ´new reality´ where lives and property are continually threatened by fire, at a cost of billions of dollars. He added that gusty winds and

An award-winning U.S. diplomat who was seen as a rising star at the State Department has issued a scathing resignation letter, accusing Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and the Donald Trump administration of undercutting the State Department and damaging America’s influence in the world. Elizabeth Shackelford, who most recently served as a political officer based in Nairobi for the U.S. mission to Somalia, wrote to Tillerson that she reluctantly had decided to quit because the administration had abandoned human rights as a priority and shown disdain for the State Department’s diplomatic work,

There are times in life when the institutional ground underneath you begins to crumble — and with it, longstanding attachments. Such is the case for me when it comes to the Republican Party and evangelicalism. I’ve been a part of both for my entire adult life. These days, though, in many important ways they are having harmful effects on our society. The latest example is in Alabama, where Roy Moore, the Republican Senate candidate, stands accused of varying degrees of sexual misconduct by nine women, including one who was 14 years old at the time. The NFL protests have been lucrative for social justice charities — they´ll receive a whopping $89 million in "settlement" money, redirected from veterans and breast cancer charity funds — but they´re also becoming a boon for cash-strapped football fans. It turns out, if you can still stomach a professional football game, you can now get tickets for about the same price as a couple of Starbucks lattes. According to Vivid Seats, an NFL ticket reselling site, seat prices at most NFL stadiums have bottomed out, leaving fans able to snag a lower level seat for a Buffalo Bills game for

Sen. Richard Shelby says he wants a Republican elected to the Senate on Tuesday to represent Alabama, but that he didn’t vote for GOP candidate Roy Moore in the special election. The Alabama Republican said he’s already cast his ballot, and that he chose a write-in candidate. “I’d rather see the Republican win, but I’d rather see a Republican write-in. I couldn’t vote for Roy Moore. I didn’t vote for Roy Moore,” Shelby told CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union.” Moore has been accused of pursuing sexual relationships with teenagers when he was in his 30s. In some
