A generation ago a leading criminal defense attorney retained me to test arguments. The defendant — his client — was a California legislator accused of several counts of “unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.” In California this previously was called statutory rape. My survey probed a sample of voters, drawn from the particular county’s likely juror universe. As I recount in my book Whiplash! From JFK to Donald Trump, a Political Odyssey, the most persuasive argument was that “the girls waited two years” before coming forward. Each day in the long trial the lawyer reprised what I predicted would be dispositive.
I am SOOO tired of this crap. This is a perennial tactic of the Donks--attack the morals of a good, Republican candidate. WHAT is the effing distinction between this and morals claims made against McCain (out side of the fact that Moore is actually far more ethical) or Gingrich (same) or Romney/Bush/insert name here. Why it might be that this time Moore is actually a principled man who only pursued a relationship in a civilized manner albeit with a younger person.
Other than that, I predict that once Moore is toast, which he soon will be if the GOP doesn´t grow a set, all of those aggrieved parties will fade into the woodwork... gee... as if this were ONLY a political tactic and not actual grievance over an impropriety. ONLY political; NOT impropriety.
Isn´t there a sharp Republican lawyer and some GOP friendly judges in Alabama who can pull a Toricelli and require the state to replace a loser (like the Joisey RATS did with Toricelli, whose actions revealed after the replacement date for candidates marked him as a sure loser which was not acceptable to Democrats) with a sure winner.
They brought the Laut (Frank Laughtenberg) out of retirement for the gig. We could bring Sessions back, or maybe Mo Brooks.
I know we Republicans screamed and hollered about the illegality and screw job done, but I´ve given up trying to play by Marquis of Queensbury rules with Democrat anarchists and their media whores.
Have no idea how much is true and how much is Democrat barnyard droppings. But Moore has been badly hurt by the accusations. So Judge Moore, why don´t you come forth and tell the people of Alabama that if they will elect you, you will then resign and let the Governor appoint your replacement. Hopefully this would get him over the finish line and keep another "progressive" out of the Senate.
Poster #3 offers a good solution, if Moore would humble himself to do this.
I started changing my mind about him when I read what his conservative law professor had to say about him. see http://www.al.com/opinion/index.ssf/2017/09/a_lesson_on_roy_moore_from_his.html
The greatest mistake here is that the GOPe got involved. in the primary. They should have let the people of AL decide for themselves - it´s probable that Mo Brooks would have won that race. In any case, Conservatives don´t need a Roy Moore.
I´ll chime in as an Alabama voter. I voted for Roy Moore once to be Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court. While I agreed with his principled stance regarding the Ten Commandments display, I did not like the fact that he valued the trust of the people so little that he didn´t do what it took to keep his job. He could have kept his job and still shown character. At that point, I said I would never waste another vote on Roy Moore.
I supported Mo Brooks in the primary because I think Luther Strange is a slimey politician who made a deal with former Gov. Bentley and ran an over-the-top dishonest campaign.
I did not vote in the run-off because I couldn´t decide between the lesser of two evils, Strange or Moore.
There was no question of who I will vote for in the General Election. Roy Moore has been accussed of immoral behavior, which he denies ever happened. His opponent, Doug Jones proudly stands for, supports and promotes immoral behavior. Deciding on the lesser of two evils in this case is not so hard for me.
If the folks in New York, California and Washington D.C. keep on writing and talking about what the people of Alabama should do, they are helping Roy Moore. If there´s one thing most folks in Alabama have in common, it´s the fact that we don´t want to be like folks from New York, California and Washington D.C. and usually don´t heed their advice.
Here we go again .. if Moore chooses to fight this fight and "carry this Cross", then it is his choice and no one else´s.
Of course, the swamp "allegators" are simply doubling, tripling, and quadrupling down to make Moore relent.
Those who hate identity politics and the politics of personal destruction must hang tough - really, really tough on this one. Even reporters, commentators, and politicians who we thought were tough in these matters have relented, passed judgment "I beleive this woman", and caved. We must not. Alabamians, in particular, must not.
Fortunately, with Moore´s unequivocal denial of frequenting the restaurant and even knowing Beverly Nelson, we now have the yearbook - equivalent to Monica´s blue dress - to forensically examine, and other customers of the restaurant to thoroughly question and vet, to finally get to the truth in this matter.
That is not likely to happen before December 12th, which is the calculus of those who want Moore to do a Herman Cain. That is why Moore should be elected on December 12th, allowing this to finally play out in time for the 2018 primaries.
Yawn...it´s only about "sex", and that´s already been declared a non-issue long ago. Politics long ago ceased to turn on choosing "the better man". That´s why so many of the lesser kind get (re)elected regardless of partisan affiliation. On to December 12th!
The yearbook note is a fake. The sevens are written differently in two dates. Look it up at the Gateway Pundit.
For my part, just sent $200 to Judge Moore. We must fight Cultural Marxism in the beaches, in the hills and in the Mountains. Give them no quarter. They almost destroyed America with Obama-Clinton-Carter.
None of these democrats and phony republicans cared that Teddy Kennedy was a Senator and he killed a young woman. I would vote for Moore in a second if I were in Alabama. Don´t you find it interesting that only conservative republicans have accusations hurled against them? The sleezy democrats apparently can do whatever they want.
#12, I want them to put a non-photoshopped COLOR pic of the yearbook out there widely. Supposedly a reddit autist is saying the ´MOORE´ and date and hickory house text are in a different color ink. As well as different writing. I wondered why it was always a grayscale pic of the yearbook, but that explanation made sense.
Let the people decide on Mooreif this is still a republic. It would be nice if these so called republicans jumped this fast on repealing obamacare & the tax bill. 100 % Fake republicans in the fake senate who passed one bill since January 20th but gave Obama every $$ he wanted.
When the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that states could experiment with work requirements and volunteer community service as prerequisites for Medicaid eligibility, the melodramatic response from the Democrats and their media allies was as predictable as it was mendacious. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi summed up the position of her congressional accomplices by vehemently denouncing the new CMS policy as “mean-spirited,” “cynical,” and “spiteful.” And USA Today captured the gist of the “news” coverage with a work of fiction titled, “Medicaid work requirements are a throwback to rejected racial stereotypes.”
On Golden Globes night, Hollywood preened in front of its black mirror as usual, but the degree to which it was blind to what was obvious to all observers was stranger than ever. It was like that time the pear-shaped Homer Simpson looked at his reflection and saw a torso rippling with musculature. What was the most crystalline moment of self-unawareness? Was it when Seth Meyers, a white guy like almost every Globes host before him, set up the first two introducers on the NBC broadcast by saying, “Please don’t be two white guys, please don’t be two white guys”?
Oprah Winfrey gave a tear-jerkingly Obamaesque woke speech at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday and is "actively thinking" about running for president in 2020. More than a handful of people who are not 60-something O magazine subscribers are actually excited about this. Here is a real-life Democratic congresswoman:(Snip)Sure, you might think, the prospect of an Oprah candidacy raises certain obvious problems. The daytime talk show pioneer and occasional film producer has no political or governing experience. Her accumulated pronouncements on political subjects over the course of some four decades in public life add up to a kind of vague
During the 2016 primary season, Donald Trump pledged to facilitate lower health insurance premiums by permitting coverage to be sold across state lines. Oddly, considering that conservatives have long advocated this as a way of augmenting market competition among insurers, the proposal was ridiculed by his opponents for the Republican presidential nomination. During one debate Marco Rubio actually mimicked Trump’s physical gestures, mocked his references to “lines around the states,” and snidely added, “whatever that means.” Friday, the Trump administration demonstrated what that means by issuing a new regulation allowing association health plans (AHPs) to offer coverage across state lines.
Collusion has become the Democrats’ Benghazi. Just as Hillary Clinton and her aides told some lies but weren’t ultimately to blame in the Benghazi tragedy, President Trump and his campaign did not collude with the Russians. Too bad for the Democrats that they can’t learn from how Republicans mishandled and overplayed the Benghazi affair. In the same way Benghazi became an obsession for many in the GOP, the idea of collusion between the Trump campaign and Vladimir Putin is now baked into the Democratic psyche. No matter what special counsel Robert S. Mueller III finds, Democrats and their allies in
The supposedly smart people said Donald Trump would destroy the U.S. economy if he were elected president. They were wrong. On Thursday, the Dow broke 25,000 for the first time in its history – a meaningful expression of investor confidence in the future. Trump´s policies of deregulation, which have been moving ahead at full steam even before the tax cut bill passed just before Christmas, have helped push the stock market up by a third which, economist Arthur Laffer estimates, works about to about a $6 trillion increase in the nation´s net wealth. That may not be historic – there may be
President Trump and Congress promised to pass tax reform by year’s end, and they delivered. Now manufacturers will deliver as well. With our new and internationally competitive tax code, manufacturers will hire more workers, create more well-paying jobs, invest in our communities and put more money in the pockets of manufacturing workers. The driving purpose behind tax reform was to create more opportunities for more Americans and to benefit manufacturing workers and their families directly. President Trump called tax reform “rocket fuel” for the economy, and manufacturers strongly agreed. We’ve been given the fuel. Now we will put it to work.
Michelle Obama and her eldest daughter Malia made a rare appearance in swimsuits as they are enjoying the sun in Miami. The mother and 19-year-old daughter were spotted walking off Miami Beach on Saturday surrounded by friends - including former Obama administration senior advisor Valerie Jarrett - and Secret Service personnel.Michelle, 53, looked sensational in a white bikini top matched with high-waisted white denim cut-off shorts as she trudged her way barefoot through the sand, holding her shoes in one hand.
NBC plans to televise any players who refuse to stand for “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Super Bowl, but there may be nothing to show. It appears that NFL players are no longer taking a knee during the national anthem, namely because none of the teams with still-active protesters has qualified for the postseason. By the end of the regular season, only five teams featured at least one player regularly sitting or kneeling on the sidelines for the anthem: the Seattle Seahawks, the San Francisco 49ers, the Miami Dolphins, the New York Giants and the Oakland Raiders. None of those franchises made the
Mitt Romney took a swipe at Donald Trump on Monday, condemning the crude comments the president was said to have made about Haiti and African countries -- calling them “inconsistent (with) America’s history and antithetical to American values” with a reference to Martin Luther King, Jr. The poverty of an aspiring immigrant’s nation of origin is as irrelevant as their race,” Romney tweeted. “The sentiment attributed to POTUS is inconsistent w/America’s history and antithetical to American values. May our memory of Dr. King buoy our hope for unity, greatness, & ‘charity for all.’”
This Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the NAACP wants man-made global warming to be seen as a civil rights issue, arguing King’s vision of a society free of racial injustice can’t be achieved without addressing warming. “We see climate change as a civil rights issue,” Jacqueline Patterson, head of the NAACP’s environmental and climate justice program, said in an online radio spot for the Yale Center for Environmental Connection. Environmental activists have been increasingly framing global warming as a matter of “environmental justice,” since “minority and low-income populations are disproportionately affected by global warming,” Patterson told Yale’s online radio Climate
The most recent attack on the president is designed to throw him off balance during the debate on immigration. Senator Durbin, doing his best Claude Rains imitation, stated, "I cannot believe that, in the history of the White House, in that Oval Office, any president has ever spoken the words that I personally heard our president speak yesterday." Durbin was responding to Trump´s alleged comment that Haiti, El Salvador, and certain African countries are "s---holes." Many of the reports omit mention of El Salvador because it does not fit the anti-black allegations. Senator Durbin is not a young man, and he
Actress and yogurt salesman Jamie Lee Curtis knows exactly whom to blame for a false alarm that told Hawaiians an incoming ballistic missile was detected. It was all President Trump´s fault. Duh. Now, never mind that Trump was in Florida at the time. On the golf course. And forget that Hawaii´s Emergency Management Agency (EMA), run by the Hawaiian state government, apologized for setting off the false alarm when someone pushed the wrong button. In a Saturday afternoon post on Twitter, Curtis attacked Trump, writing "YOU DID THIS!" "This Hawaii missile scare is on YOU Mr. Trump. The real FEAR that
This is the shocking moment a massive brawl broke out in a California pizza restaurant over a missing iPhone that turned out to have been in the lost and found the whole time. Police were called to John´s Incredible Pizza Company in Newark´s NewPark Mall on Saturday night after violence erupted. It broke out after a girl missing her phone had approached a group to see if they´d seen it but quickly descended into chaos, with video showing two large groups of people exchanging blows and screaming at each other. Newark police officers had to call in officers from the Fremont Police Department
