Rick Saccone, the GOP pick
to replace Tim Murphy,

Over six years of voting in the General Assembly, Republican Rep. Rick Saccone garnered perhaps the most public attention for his support of legislation promoting Christian values. Saccone, the Republican Party´s newly selected nominee for a March special election to represent the 18th Congressional District, promoted bills that would have allowed schools to display the national motto, “In God We Trust,” and would have declared 2012 to be “The Year of the Bible.” In a speech following his nomination Saturday, Saccone, who represents the 39th legislative district covering parts of Allegheny and Washington counties, pledged that if elected to Congress he would

I have met and been in the company of both Rick Saccone and his wife. They are both over bearing and in my opinion an embarrassment. Rick is nothing more than just another swamp critter. He would not be my choice.

#2 most "unabashedly" Christians are overbearing. Especially the born again ones. Chip Gaines the Carpenter comes to mind. And W. Bush of course.

1) The Constitution forbids religious tests for office (be they for or against). If the Democrats support "unabashedly" Muslim reps, like Keith Ellison, they have not cause to complain.
2) I would not describe any of my unabashedly Christian neighbors as overbearing. Many politicians (who are not my neighbors) are.
3) Did any of Saccone´s religious legislation pass? where was he on actual policy issues? The Separation of Church and State does not in the least forbid bringing religious values into the political arena. In fact, I´d say its impossible to avoid that.

Being a Christian is now nearly a criminal act.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton isn´t on board with former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney´s approach to the allegations against Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore. After Moore supporters said he was entitled to a presumption of innocence regarding claims that he had inappropriate contacts with teenage girls, Romney took to Twitter to say the standard used in criminal cases isn´t the correct one to apply in the political realm. "Innocent until proven guilty is for criminal convictions, not elections," he said. Paxton said in an interview airing Sunday that he has a different take from that of the former Massachusetts governor and potential

A judge this week has ruled that New Orleans must pay approximately $28 million in refunds to thousands of people who paid fines for traffic camera tickets during the initial years of the enforcement program, according to the lead attorney in the class action lawsuit Friday (Nov. 17). On Wednesday, Ad hoc Judge Robert Burns of the Orleans Parish Civil District Court ruled the city needs to return the money it collected on any tickets issued from Jan. 1, 2008, to Nov. 3, 2011, plaintiff´s attorney Joseph McMahon said. He estimates a total of 250,000 people deserve to be refunded for

On November 16, 2017, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) kicked off her run for the 2020 presidency by intoning that Bill Clinton should have resigned (in disgrace?) in 1998 over the Monica Lewinsky affair. Talk sure is cheap, isn´t it? That´s because the Democrats had in their power to dump Clinton in 1999 and kick him right out of office – and took a pass on it. They could even have accomplished this with a minority of their Senate membership. And not only would it have been easy, but it would even have redounded to their benefit, by guaranteeing their continued rule

Speaking in an exclusive radio interview, senatorial candidate Roy Moore charged the establishment wing of the Republican party—led by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell—is in cahoots with the Democratic Party to stop Moore’s campaign. Moore framed the Alabama senate race as representing a critical juncture for the future of the country, explaining that a revolution in the Senate is necessary in order for Trump to enact his populist agenda, especially on border security and repealing and replacing Obamacare.

With less than a month to go before Alabama’s special election to fill the Senate seat left vacant by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Republican candidate Roy Moore refuses to quit the race amid fallout over credible allegations of sexual assault dating from the 1970s, including that he initiated a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl when he was 32. Some polls still show Moore leading his Democratic opponent Doug Jones, while a poll conducted by the National Republican Senate Committee earlier this week shows Moore trailing Jones by 12 points.

A nationwide network of Catholic prep schools offered exclusively to low-income families is warning that the House version of tax reform contains provisions that could devastate their funding model, and could spell the end of an educational program that has graduated tens of thousands of low-income children in America’s inner cities. Although Catholic, the Cristo Rey Network of college preparatory academies is open to low-income children of all faiths, and operates in 21 states and the District of Columbia using what’s called a “Corporate Work Study Program.” “In lieu of tuition, every student works one day a week at an entry-level professional

President Trump asked President Xi Jinping for leniency. The three players were released. Imagine: even the New York Times’ Ross Douthat now thinks that Bill Clinton should have stepped down over the Monica Lewinsky affair. Douthat’s mea culpa op-ed in this past weekend’s paper, in which he confesses that he and others may have been wrong to dismiss Bill Clinton’s indefensible behavior, will serve as the official political obituary for Clinton, Inc. Hillary Clinton is done, finished, kaput. Dogged by scandals old and new, out of step politically, her excess baggage has morphed into an entire baggage train, dragging her towards political oblivion. While it is refreshing to consider the landscape unadorned by Clintons,

A federal judge on Monday permanently blocked President Trump’s executive order to cut funding from so called “sanctuary cities.” Trump’s order would have removed some federal funds from cities that limit their cooperation with U.S. immigration authorities. U.S. District Court Judge William Orrick rejected the Trump administration’s argument that the measure only applies to a relatively small pool of money. Orrick also said that Trump cannot set fresh conditions on spending that Congress has previously approved. Monday’s ruling came in lawsuits brought by two California counties, Santa Clara and San Francisco.
