Chester Hight begged his oldest son to visit. The two hadn´t seen each other in almost a year. "He had various excuses," Hight said Wednesday morning. "But promised he´d be down." Now, that visit will never happen. On Sunday, police say, Hight´s oldest son, Spencer Hight, burst into the Plano home of his estranged wife, Meredith Hight, killing the 27-year-old and seven others in one of North Texas´ worst mass shootings in recent memory. An officer who responded to the attack fatally shot Spencer, 32. (Snip) "I love all my children, but I certainly don't love what Spencer did. I absolutely hate it," said the elder Hight, who has three other

Comments:
I thought that it would be important to follow up on the terrible tragedy that struck here in Plano, just about four miles down the street from me. What is appalling to me is that the "loser" shot and killed women (two0 as well as the men. Was he expecting to "silence" all witnesses? Good he was shot dead by our Plano police. No mention of body armor, so he probably thought that he would get away. HA! (Where i live is across the street from the million dollar homes and many known corporate headquarters which continues to expand.)

Just a follow on from the Dallas Morning News talking to Plano residents. BTW, I´ve yet to see anyone with an open gun or rifle anywhere. Have always seen rifles in the back of truck cabs here. I would be more afraid to see someone with double swords (having seen their "proper" deadly use on Asian historical dramas), on their back.

ESPN lost 2 million subscribers last fiscal year, underscoring the challenge owner Walt Disney Co. faces attracting young people who don’t pay for cable. The network, one of the most watched on the cable dial, had 88 million U.S. subscribers at the end of September, including people paying for online versions, Disney said in its annual report Wednesday. That’s down from a peak of 100 million in 2010 and marks the lowest total since 2003. To ensure the long-term future of one of its most profitable businesses, Disney Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger is negotiating to include ESPN in new digital forms

Washington - Lawyers for Michael T. Flynn, President Trump’s former national security adviser, notified the president’s legal team in recent days that they could no longer discuss the special counsel’s investigation, according to four people involved in the case, an indication that Mr. Flynn is cooperating with prosecutors or negotiating a deal. Mr. Flynn’s lawyers had been sharing information with Mr. Trump’s lawyers about the investigation by the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, who is examining whether anyone around Mr. Trump was involved in Russian efforts to undermine Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

Former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe won’t face prosecution and is free to remain in the southern African nation following his resignation on Tuesday after 37 years in power. “There aren’t any plans for former President Robert Mugabe; he’s free to stay in Zimbabwe and he won’t face prosecution,” Simon Khaya Moyo, a spokesman for the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front, said Thursday by phone. “We don’t have anything against him or his family. He’s the hero of our liberation.” Emmerson Mnangagwa, 75, is due to be sworn in on Friday to replace Mugabe, who’s ruled since independence in 1980.

Cuba´s foreign minister and his North Korean counterpart have rejected the United States´ “unilateral and arbitrary” demands while expressing concern about escalating tensions on the Korean peninsula, the ministry said. North Korea is searching for support amid unprecedented pressure from the United States and the international community to cease its nuclear weapons and missile programmes, which it carries out in defiance of UN Security Council resolutions. The country, which has made no secret of its plans to develop a missile capable of hitting the US mainland, has maintained warm political relations with Cuba since

Charlie Rose, formerly of PBS and CBS. Glenn Thrush of The New York Times. The collapse of the liberal establishment Masters of the Universe continues. Yet for some reason, the Democratic and liberal establishment think now is the time to condemn … Bill Clinton. (Snip) The only thing that has changed for liberals is being caught as enablers and hypocrites. None of these people now complaining about Mr. Clinton have had any sort of epiphany. They just realize their defense of sexual assault in the 1990s makes it impossible for them to continue the fraud of casting conservatives as the enemies of women.

Coffee is "more likely to benefit health than harm", a new review has found. People appear to reduce their risk of a range of health problems when they drink three to four cups a day, experts found. They concluded that drinking coffee seems safe "within usual patterns of consumption", except in pregnancy and among women who are at risk of a fracture. (Snip) Their study, published in The British Medical Journal, found that drinking three or four cups a day compared to drinking none has been linked to a lower likelihood of developing or dying from cardiovascular problems, such as heart attacks and stroke.

A Washington Post columnist said White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders humiliates the media on a daily basis. In a column published Tuesday, opinion writer Kathleen Parker referenced Sanders asking reporters earlier this week to say what they were thankful for before asking a question. "Yet again, she controlled the crowd, though this time by candy-coating her usual condescension with faux fellowship," Parker wrote. "I´m thankful I wasn´t in the room." She wrote that her first impulse when someone asks her to share is to "not-share." "For a press secretary to require professional journalists to essentially beg for their supper, surrendering their adversarial posture

UCLA basketball players LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill were arrested in China for shoplifting while attending basketball tournament. UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero said the players stole from three stores in China including sunglasses stolen by LiAngelo Ball from a Louis Vitton store. They were facing 10 years in prison. President Trump asked President Xi Jinping for leniency. The three players were released. Thug life on display – After watching this bizarro interview with his father I can completely understand why LiAngelo Ball thought it would be perfectly okay to shoplift in China and live a life beyond

A new Raycom News Network Senate Election poll conducted by Strategy Research finds the race in a statistical tie nearly two weeks after allegations of sexual misconduct against Republican Roy Moore rocked the campaign. (Snip) When asked “what do you think about the allegations made against Roy Moore,” 45% believe all or some of the allegations; 34% do not believe the allegations; and 21% believe some or all of the allegations, but say it has not changed their vote. A retired Alabama police officer said she was told to keep an eye on Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore back in the 1980s because he was known to harass teenage cheerleaders at local school ballgames. Ex-Gadsden cop Faye Gray told MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell that rumors of Moore’s liking young girls were heard on a daily basis and she was informed that he had been banned from Gadsden Mall because he allegedly targeted young female employees. “We were also told to watch him at the ballgames and make sure that he didn’t hang around the cheerleaders,” Faye said.

Alabama has its back up, or at least its Republicans and conservatives do, and it’s understandable. They don’t like when Northerners and liberals and people in Washington tell them who their senator should be. They don’t like when reporters from outside come down and ask questions and turn over rocks looking for what’s crawling on the underside. (Snip) The charges against Mr. Moore are not only serious; they are completely credible. If you read the original Washington Post story, you know it was rigorously reported, with great care and professionalism. Four women who did not seek out the press, who did

The NFL is considering an idea for next year to keep players inside their locker rooms during the playing of the National Anthem. "I think that if players are still kneeling at the end of the year, then it could very well happen," said one person familiar with the owners´ deliberations on anthem-related issues.Years ago, the players would come out on the field to warm up and then return to the locker room during the National Anthem. The league is thinking of going back to that policy. Washington Post: That person said it was "too early to tell" for certain
