Cruz calls for Justice Department investigation
into Charlottesville violence

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) called on the Department of Justice to investigate a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va. that turned violent and left three dead and dozens injured. "The Nazis, the KKK, and white supremacists are repulsive and evil, and all of us have a moral obligation to speak out against the lies, bigotry, ant-semitism, and hatred that they propagate," Cruz said in a statement. Having watched the horrifying video of the car deliberately crashing into a crowd of protesters, I urge the Department of Justice to immediately investigate and prosecute this grotesque act of domestic terrorism," he

Comments:
Thank you, Senator. This is not only the right thing to do - it´s also good politics. Perhaps they will discover it wasn´t what´s being assumed.

I remember Ted Cruz´s speech at the Republican Convention. Also when he semi-endorsed the BLM violence that prevented Donald Trump from speaking in Chicago. Never forget.

Well I for one am amazed at the courage and forethought that Sen. Cruz is showing by calling for a Justice Department investigation.
Surely no one else could have thought of this. So Presidential.

The anti-protest protesters were ANTIFA and BLM.

So it’s OK for ANTIFA and BLM to violently protest the Unite the Right protesters, who were there to protest the removal of a Confederate statue?

The KKK and Nazis are leftists and Democrats. As are the Fascists that created the violence.
If he is trying to pin this on the right it is the end of his career.

Clearly, most Trump voters would not defend nazi, communist or confederate flags or statues, as much as we cherish the ideal of free expression, no matter how offensive. There have been people recorded in public calling for the extermination of all white people, and no one ever suggested any harm come to them for it. We need to draw the line right after those, otherwise the left will feel free to blacklist and otherwise destroy dissenters with impunity.

If it means we lose the far right vote, so be it. We cannot allow ourselves to be dragged down that road, every bit as destructive as the path of the leftists. The left is out to make us look like extremist sympathizers, when we only vigorously support free speech.

From what I heard, about 200 peaceful protestors came together to protest the removal of a statue.

The violence came, as it always does, when the leftist anarchists (like BLM and Antifa) decided to counter-protest.

If the 200 had been left alone, they would have finished their protest and gone home.

I don´t care what either side believes in, if we are going to investigate this, they had better investigate both sides

When you practice the politics of division, this is what you get. The left loves this, and encourages it.

This is not a white nation, or a black nation, or a hispanic nation, or women´s, or gay´s, or whatever. The left would like to divide us into working against one another.

The White supremacists are not Conservatives. They want to use the government to leverage their interests as much as any other leftist group. All at the expense of everyone else.

We are ONE NATION. Under God. The left hates that.

Don´t fall for this garbage.

All day I have been listening to the media bash white supremacist, but little was said about BLM. None of them, to my knowledge, said which group was driving the car. Were the BLM protesters paid to show up and cause mayhem and destroy property as usual?

At least the WN protesters were trying to save the statue. As a southerner, it´s my heritage too. Removing that statue doesn´t change my opinion about BLM one bit.

Ted needs to be sure of his facts before blasting one side.

A Harvard graduate watches a video of a car driving into a crowd, automatically assumes it´s terrorism, and makes a sensational statement to that effect to national media. Unfortunately for me, I sent $2700 to Ted´s campaign--before Trump had declared and before I read Ted´s greasy, slimy WSJ op-ed with Paul Ryan supporting TPA.

Is there any justice left to be found in the Justice Department? If equality under the law is a benchmark of their mission, why no investigation into 33,000 emails deleted, equipment smashed with hammers, illegal servers hidden on private property, etc. Frankly, I am suspect of any agency in Washington. Not ONE prosecution for any of the crimes committed during the Obama regime. I guarantee the DOJ will be all over this one. Washington DC loves nothing more than grandstanding. However, they have proven to be useless when it comes to real deep seated corruption by the democrat party. PDT is another matter. The pursuit of criminal activity with ZERO evidence is of upmost importance. I have lost all confidence in this agency.

I believe Senator Cruz understands how lethal the situation will become if the media and the leftists are successful at pinning this on the "right". If it turns out that this was orchestrated by forces on the "left" to make the "right" look violent, then the truth is our friend. The truth is always our friend.

Having said all that, I too think that all the violence and destruction perpetrated by BLM and other leftist groups should be investigated and then punished.

It seems that #9 and many others do not understand that the Neo Nazis follow Hitler´s path. They are big government, no freedom white supremacists. Their ideal government would be a strong man dictatorship. That is not the conservative party, that is Democrat Progressive MarxObamism.
The KKK is not the Neo Nazi party. The KKK is a Democrat created entity. It has been absorbed by the Neo Nazis, and the two actually fight with each other but overlap. In all respects they are idiots, and I think Cruz and Sessions are doing a wise thing taking that ammo from the left, even though it is slightly hypocritical.

#21, I am from KKK country (embarrassingly, I have a great-grandfather with a "KKK" on his grave). I am familiar with the type of people they historically are.

They were yellow-dog Democrats for a long, long time. Now they vote Republican. Their political philosophy is similar to ours. It´s just that they are raving racists.

Now you may be right that there is another strain, but I don´t believe that represents the rank and file member.

Back in the late 1990´s through the early 2000´s, I lived in Vidor, TX. You don´t get much deeper into KKK territory than Vidor.

And I can guarantee that every KKK member I ever met there was still a registered Demon-RAT, and most were union members.

They were also very socialist, only desiring a socialist dictatorship state run solely by white people.

All that said, please do not underestimate Ted Cruz. The man is a legal genius, and he knows exactly what he is doing.

President Trump defended the character of embattled White House strategist Steve Bannon Tuesday against rising calls for his resignation for allegedly stoking racial divisions, but the president stopped short of promising that he wouldn’t fire his top adviser. “He is not a racist, I can tell you that,” Mr. Trump said of Mr. Bannon at a boisterous press conference in New York. “He’s a good person. A defiant President Trump doubled down Tuesday on his initial claim that activists on both the left and the right were responsible for violence at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, and he warned that eradicating public monuments linked to slavery could diminish the legacies of Founders such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Defending his first, roundly criticized assessment that “many sides” were guilty of violence during Saturday’s clashes, the president said he didn’t single out white supremacists initially because he didn’t have all the facts at the time and didn’t want to rush to judgment for the sake

After demonstrations surrounding the removal of a Robert E. Regular readers know that I´ve been rather tough on Team Trump when their Russiagate spin doesn´t add up. In recent weeks, I´ve hit them pretty hard on the Donald Jr. story, and flagged additional problems for the Attorney General. But my consistent, overarching theme on the Russia matter is that we ought to follow all of the facts and let investigators do their work. When exculpatory evidence surfaces, that should matter just as much as when new information looks damning -- unless, of course, you have a pre-determined agenda, as seems to be the case with many in the press.
