An Australian woman who was living in Minnesota and engaged to be married next month was shot dead by police — after she called 911 to report a disturbance behind her house. Justine Damond, 40, of Minneapolis, was killed on Saturday night by an officer who was responding to her call, according to the Star Tribune. He and another cop had arrived at her home around 11:30 p.m. — looking for a possible assault — after she claimed to hear “a sound” in the alley behind the residence, the newspaper reports. Three sources with knowledge of the incident said that

I will wait for more here before I comment on the cops´ actions. It is strange that although cameras were present, they weren´t on.

I can wait for more info too but generally if you feel threatened by a noise outside and call the cops you should stay in the house.

It seems a bit irresponsible to report on a case that begs for critical information. Police show up to investigate a disturbance and gun down the first woman in pajamas who they find. You might want to ask a question or two before reporting there Chris.

And why in the NY Post?

Agree with #1, you don´t call the cops concerning somebody outside and then go outside. Sounds like the officer just panicked but somebody coming out of the dark when you are on heightened alert tends to cause that. This doesn´t look good.

If the cops were sitting in their car their body cams would be pointing at the dashboard anyway with no voice recordings either - no help there.
The car´s dash cam is pointed forward, but voices might be heard. If the woman was at the driver´s side window and was shot by the cop in the passenger seat, through the door, I´d say it´s an accidental discharge. Not enough info at this point, though....just guessing.

She was at the drivers side door and the passenger shot her through that door. If I were the driver I would be extremely mad at my partner because she/he could have shot me. Something seems strange here.

The woman was in her pajamas!!!

I called one time to report that I’d heard something from the house behind me and seen that the sliding door into the side of their living room was open. The house was dark.

I went out when the police arrived. That is not an unusual thing to do. Ill-advised or not.

The officer is Mohammed Noor. College graduate. First Somali officer in this precinct. Which means there are more.

She had walked about 100 yards to where they were at the end of the alley, but it was very well lit.

One wonders what she said to the officer who was driving the car?

Former Secret Service Agent Dan Bongino blasted critics who he said labeled him a racist for previously condemning looters in Florida. "Apparently... discussing looting now makes you a racist," he said. Bongino, who lives in Florida, said those who are burglarizing stores during Hurricane Irma are "hack, phony frauds who have no lives." He said the political left makes excuses for looters during natural disasters because their livelihoods are "based off clickbait." Bongino said that, if people can market their side of an issue by declaring the other side racist, "some idiot is going to click on [their] article." He

Politics is the art of shifting the playing field. This is an art Republicans simply don’t understand. Perhaps it’s because they spend so much time attempting to stop the Democratic snowball from running downhill too quickly, but Republicans in power have an unfortunate tendency to conserve their political capital rather than invest it. That’s unfortunate because political capital doesn’t accrue when you save it; it degrades. Just as sticking your cash in a mattress is a bad strategy when it comes to investment, inaction in power is a bad strategy when it comes to politics. Democrats understand that political capital must

A Utah nurse screamed “help me” after a cop handcuffed her for refusing to draw blood on an unconscious patient July 26, police body camera footage showed. The video showed University of Utah Hospital nurse Alex Wubbels, an Alpine skier who participated in the 1998 and 2002 Winter Olympic games, calmly explaining to Salt Lake Detective Jeff Payne that she could not draw blood from a patient who had been injured in a car accident, according to The Salt Lake Tribune. Students at a Maryland private school have been told to leave their Washington Redskins apparel at home when football season kicks off. Neal Brown, head of school at the Green Acres School in North Bethesda, asked parents not to send their children to school with the NFL team’s logo or name. In the letter, Brown wrote that “the term “Redskin” is a racial slur. Its use, whether intentional or not, can be deeply insulting and offensive. It is a term that demeans a group of people. Similarly,” Brown’s letter continued, “the team’s logo also can reasonably be viewed as racially

The NYPD has to scrap the 36,000 smartphones it gave cops over the past two years because they’re already obsolete and can’t be upgraded, The Post has learned. The city bought Microsoft-based Nokia smartphones as part of a $160 million NYPD Mobility Initiative that Mayor de Blasio touted as “a huge step into the 21st century.” But just months after the last phone was handed out, officials plan to begin replacing them all with brand-new iPhones by the end of the year, sources said. The move follows Microsoft’s recent decision to stop supporting the operating system that runs the NYPD’s

Sen. John McCain almost certainly just killed TrumpCare — and gave a boost to managed-care stocks such as UnitedHealth (UNH) and Centene (CNC). The Arizona Republican declared that he couldn´t "in good conscience" vote for the Graham-Cassidy plan to repeal ObamaCare and replace it with block grants to states. John McCain?Verified account @SenJohnMcCain I cannot in good conscience vote for Graham-Cassidy. A bill impacting so many lives deserves a bipartisan approach. The news brought a sudden turnaround in managed-care stocks, though much of that was short-lived. Shares of Centene, whose fortunes are more tied to the ObamaCare exchanges and Medicaid

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) announced on Friday that he will vote against the latest GOP effort to repeal ObamaCare, potentially dooming the legislation. “I cannot in good conscience vote for the Graham-Cassidy proposal. I believe we could do better working together, Republicans and Democrats, and have not yet really tried," he said in a statement, referring to the legislation spearheaded by GOP Sens. Lindsey Graham (S.C) and Bill Cassidy (La.). McCain´s announcement leaves GOP leadership with no room for error.

After ratings for Week Two crashed, adding to the angst already felt by a poor showing in Week 1, industry insiders and analysts are sounding the alarm. A new report claims that CBS, ESPN, Fox and NBC could take a $200 million hit to their estimated $2.5 billion in NFL advertising earnings if fans continue to turn off the TV, the The Hollywood Reporter noted recently. His pre-dawn raid was meant to intimidate Manafort, not just to collect evidence. Robert Mueller’s sprawling special-counsel investigation is playing hardball. It was not enough to get a search warrant to ransack the Virginia home of Paul Manafort, even as the former Trump campaign chairman was cooperating with congressional investigators. Mueller’s bad-asses persuaded a judge to give them permission to pick the door lock. That way, they could break into the premises in the wee hours, while Manafort and his wife were in bed sleeping. They proceeded to secure the premises — of a man they are reportedly investigating for tax and financial crimes, not gang murders and Mafia hits — by drawing their guns on the stunned couple, apparently to check their pajamas for weapons. Mueller’s probe more resembles an empire, with 17 prosecutors retained on the public dime. So . . .
