An Australian woman who was living in Minnesota and engaged to be married next month was shot dead by police — after she called 911 to report a disturbance behind her house. Justine Damond, 40, of Minneapolis, was killed on Saturday night by an officer who was responding to her call, according to the Star Tribune. He and another cop had arrived at her home around 11:30 p.m. — looking for a possible assault — after she claimed to hear “a sound” in the alley behind the residence, the newspaper reports. Three sources with knowledge of the incident said that

I will wait for more here before I comment on the cops´ actions. It is strange that although cameras were present, they weren´t on.

I can wait for more info too but generally if you feel threatened by a noise outside and call the cops you should stay in the house.

It seems a bit irresponsible to report on a case that begs for critical information. Police show up to investigate a disturbance and gun down the first woman in pajamas who they find. You might want to ask a question or two before reporting there Chris.

And why in the NY Post?

Agree with #1, you don´t call the cops concerning somebody outside and then go outside. Sounds like the officer just panicked but somebody coming out of the dark when you are on heightened alert tends to cause that. This doesn´t look good.

If the cops were sitting in their car their body cams would be pointing at the dashboard anyway with no voice recordings either - no help there.
The car´s dash cam is pointed forward, but voices might be heard. If the woman was at the driver´s side window and was shot by the cop in the passenger seat, through the door, I´d say it´s an accidental discharge. Not enough info at this point, though....just guessing.

She was at the drivers side door and the passenger shot her through that door. If I were the driver I would be extremely mad at my partner because she/he could have shot me. Something seems strange here.

The woman was in her pajamas!!!

I called one time to report that I’d heard something from the house behind me and seen that the sliding door into the side of their living room was open. The house was dark.

I went out when the police arrived. That is not an unusual thing to do. Ill-advised or not.

The officer is Mohammed Noor. College graduate. First Somali officer in this precinct. Which means there are more.

She had walked about 100 yards to where they were at the end of the alley, but it was very well lit.

One wonders what she said to the officer who was driving the car?

The Minnesota cop who shot and killed an Australian bride-to-be opened fire on her after being startled by a “loud sound” near his patrol car, investigators say. Officer Mohamed Noor, 31, began blasting at 40-year-old Justine Damond, of Minneapolis, just moments after he and his partner, Matthew Harrity, heard the noise in the alley behind her house, according to the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The agency provided an update Tuesday on their investigation into the Saturday night shooting. Officers Noor and Harrity had been called to Damond’s home after she called 911 to report a possible sexual assault happening

The Somali-born Minnesota police officer alleged to have shot and killed an unarmed Australian woman on Saturday had been lauded by Minneapolis’ mayor and feted by the local community when he joined the force in 2015. “I want to take a moment to recognize Officer Mohamed Noor, the newest Somali officer in the Minneapolis Police Department,” Mayor Betsy Hodges wrote in a Facebook post when Noor began serving the city. “Officer Noor has been assigned to the 5th Precinct, where his arrival has been highly celebrated, particularly by the Somali community in and around Karmel Mall.” In fact, The Washington

A middle aged woman had to be hospitalised in Vienna following a brutal beating in broad daylight by a veiled Somali asylum seeker offended by her pet dogs. The victim, named only as Ingrid T., described how she was talking with neighbours at the gate of her garden, accompanied by dogs — her deaf, almost-blind, three-legged Collie mix “sitting peacefully” alongside while 10-month-old ‘Poco’ meandered along an alleyway towards her parents’ house — when she “saw a pretty, veiled woman approaching slowly.” “I knew some people from these countries do not like dogs, so I went to Poco and wanted

Grandparents of American citizens from six Muslim-majority nations who had been banned from coming to the United States under President Trump’s travel ban have gotten the green light to book their flights. The State Department sent a memo to US diplomatic posts overseas reflecting a federal court ruling last week modifying the ban. US District Judge Derrick Watson in Honolulu found the government cannot bar grandparents and other relatives of US citizens from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen from getting visas under the ban. Watson declined to put his ruling on hold pending appeal, meaning it went into

One of the hallmarks of the “Ugly American” is the habit of thinking foreigners will understand what you’re saying if you just shout it louder and louder. The Ugly Environmentalist does something similar. He exaggerates the challenge of global warming by using ever more hysterical rhetoric, thinking that if the last doomsday prediction didn’t work, this one will. For instance, Stephen Hawking, the famous astrophysicist, recently said that the consequences of Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris climate accord were monumental: “Trump’s action could push the Earth over the brink, to become like Venus, with a temperature of 250 degrees [Celsius] and

A New Mexico man was arrested for allegedly beating his girlfriend and threatening to kill her — after Amazon’s Alexa called police, authorities said. Eduardo Barros, 28, became angered with his unidentified girlfriend while house-sitting in Tijeras, about 15 miles east of Albuquerque, and the dispute suddenly turned physical on July 2, authorities said. During the assault, Barros waved a gun and threatened to kill the woman before he allegedly asked: “Did you call the sheriffs?” The question was inadvertently picked up by the smart speaker and the voice-powered virtual assistant recognized the phrase as a command — prompting it

WASHINGTON — President Trump said on Wednesday that he never would have appointed Attorney General Jeff Sessions had he known Mr. Sessions would recuse himself from overseeing the Russia investigation that has dogged his presidency, calling the decision “very unfair to the president.” In a remarkable public break with one of his earliest political supporters, Mr. Trump complained that Mr. Sessions’s decision ultimately led to the appointment of a special counsel that should not have happened. “Sessions should have never recused himself, and if he was going to recuse himself, he should have told me before he took the job and

Heading to church one evening in late March, a farmworker and her sister were stopped for speeding in the village of Geneseo, N.Y. They were driving with their five children in the back of the minivan. Two were not in car seats, as required. The police officer, trying to cite the driver for the infractions, discovered she had no driver’s license, so he called Border Patrol to review her Guatemalan passport. Both sisters were undocumented immigrants. They were detained and are facing deportation. Under a Trump administration that has taken an aggressive stance on illegal immigration, the moving car has

The Humiliation Of Jeff Sessions- There is something more than a little jarring in the ongoing humiliation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions. In an ill-timed, ill-focused interview with the NYT, President Trump revisited his disdain for Sessions, his first, most-ardent and most-loyal supporter in the Senate. When supporting Trump was still considered career suicide, Sessions donned the red cap anyway. Maybe it will prove fatal for Sessions’ career, after all. The president has not made a secret of the fact that he blames Sessions for the scandal that now engulfs the Trump administration, claiming in

President Trump sat down with Russian President Vladimir Putin for a second discussion at the G-20 summit in Germany this month — a talk the White House never disclosed, according to reports. The talk came hours after their two-hour bilateral meeting on July 7, towards the end of a “couples-only social dinner” at the summit, National Security Council spokesman Michael Anton told CNN. Trump and Putin conversed in the room where the dinner was being held. “No staff or Cabinet were at the dinner at all, for any of the countries,” Anton said, adding that translators were present. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has been diagnosed with brain cancer, the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix said Wednesday. The tumor was discovered after the senior Arizona senator underwent a minor procedure last week to remove a blood clot from above his left eye. "Subsequent tissue pathology revealed that a primary brain tumor known as a glioblastoma was associated with the blood clot," the hospital said in a statement. “The Senator and his family are reviewing further treatment options with his Mayo Clinic care team. Treatment options may include a combination of chemotherapy and radiation."

The U.S. special counsel investigating possible ties between the Donald Trump campaign and Russia in last year’s election is examining a broad range of transactions involving Trump’s businesses as well as those of his associates, according to a person familiar with the probe. The president told the New York Times on Wednesday that any digging into matters beyond Russia would be out of bounds. Trump’s businesses have involved Russians for years, making the boundaries fuzzy so Special Counsel Robert Mueller appears to be taking a wide-angle approach to his two-month-old probe. FBI investigators and others are looking at Russian purchases of apartments
