Martin Landau, Actor Who Won
an Oscar for ‘Ed Wood,’ Dies at 89

Martin Landau, the tall, intense, sometimes mischievously sinister actor best known for his role in the television series “Mission: Impossible” and his Oscar-winning portrayal of Bela Lugosi in the film “Ed Wood,” died Saturday in Los Angeles. He was 89. His death was confirmed by his publicist. Mr. Landau starred on the hit CBS suspense drama “Mission: Impossible” as Rollin Hand, a versatile covert-operations agent, from its debut in 1966 until 1969. After the show’s third season, he and Barbara Bain, his wife and co-star, left because of a contractual dispute. But the series had served its purpose.

One of my favorite lines ever came from him in "Ed Wood". It wasn´t just what he said, but the way he delivered it. It truly always makes me laugh. Thanks, Martin. R.I.P.

From "Ed Wood", as Bella Lugosi: "Home? I have no home. Hunted... despised... living like an animal. The jungle is my home! But I will show the world that I can be its master. I shall perfect my own race of people... a race of atomic supermen that will conquer the world!"

Wow hard to believe he was 89. He was superb on MI until Desilu got greedy and wouldn´t give him a raise.Bain got mad and quit wrecking the show. I´ve seen every episode dozens of times now blocked by youtube.

My favorite movie is "Joseph"; Landau portrays Jacob/Israel, father of the Twelve Tribes. He is marvelous in this Ted Turner masterpiece. I watch it at least once a week. (I didn´t know that Turner produced religious themed movies, but this one goes beyond any label.)

Loved Mission Impossible! One of my early crushes as a young lad was Barbara Bain [not to mention Pat Priest and Agent 99 and Mary Ann on the island, but I digress].

OP, I believe I know exactly which line you are referring to; it has to do with his opinion of another gentleman´s fitness to, how shall I say, get a whiff of the situation?

Who can ever forget the brilliant theme song and the struck match? Landau was my hero; he was part of my childhood.
This very well-written article just goes to show you that when the NYTimes WANTS to, they can write a completely fair, objective, unbiased, factual piece which informs the reader about an event. Imagine that.

Mission Impossible was must see TV for me. Martin and his wife at the time were an integral part of the show. The whole cast was great. Peter Graves was so suave, barney, the tech genius was great. Willy was dumped from the show for a while, but fan outrage brought him back. The best MI shows were when Desilu Studios were in charge, the idiots at Paramount cheapen the show, but I still watched.

The Senate confirmed John Kenneth Bush for a lifetime seat on the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday, over protests from Democrats who said he wasn’t fit to be a federal judge. The Senate voted 51-47 to put him on the federal bench despite criticism from Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee of Mr. Bush for having made controversial writings, where in one particular blog, he equated the Supreme Court’s legal rulings on slavery and abortion. Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican, and Sen. Debbie Stabenow, Michigan Democrat, did not vote. The Judiciary Committee moved Mr. Bush’s confirmation

(Video) - Concealed handgun permits in the United States soared by 1.83 million since last July, setting a record for the fourth consecutive year, according to an analysis released Thursday. (Snip) Concealed handgun permit holders are extremely law abiding, the analysis shows. The percent of permit holders who are charged or convicted of a felony has fallen: In 2015 it was 0.0123; in 2016 the percent was 0.0092 percent. “In Florida and Texas, permit holders are convicted of misdemeanors and felonies at one-sixth of the rate at which police officers are convicted,” the CPRC said in a statement.

President Donald Trump hasn´t lived in New York City since January, but the government is still renting an office there for the purpose of protecting him. The Wall Street Journal published an exclusive story Tuesday night revealing that the government has been and is still paying more than $100,000 a month to use a roughly 3,500-square-foot space in Trump Tower as an outpost of the White House Military Office. Federal officials with the General Services Administration signed an 18-month lease with Trump Tower effective April 13, 2017. All in all, the agreement will cost $2.39 million.

David Blackmon probably won´t go down in history as a criminal mastermind, at least judging by the ridiculous reason for his arrest. The 32-year-old “self-proclaimed drug dealer” stunned police in Florida when he called 911 to report his cocaine had been stolen, along with some cash. He told Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office that “someone had entered his car while it was parked and stole $50 and about a quarter ounce of cocaine”. But the case then took an unusual turn: “The deputy however spotted cocaine still in [the same] spot,” said the sheriff´s office “He also found a crack pipe on the floorboard by the driver’s door and seat

WASHINGTON — President Trump said on Wednesday that he never would have appointed Attorney General Jeff Sessions had he known Mr. Sessions would recuse himself from overseeing the Russia investigation that has dogged his presidency, calling the decision “very unfair to the president.” In a remarkable public break with one of his earliest political supporters, Mr. Trump complained that Mr. Sessions’s decision ultimately led to the appointment of a special counsel that should not have happened. “Sessions should have never recused himself, and if he was going to recuse himself, he should have told me before he took the job and

The Minnesota cop who shot and killed an Australian bride-to-be opened fire on her after being startled by a “loud sound” near his patrol car, investigators say. Officer Mohamed Noor, 31, began blasting at 40-year-old Justine Damond, of Minneapolis, just moments after he and his partner, Matthew Harrity, heard the noise in the alley behind her house, according to the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The agency provided an update Tuesday on their investigation into the Saturday night shooting. Officers Noor and Harrity had been called to Damond’s home after she called 911 to report a possible sexual assault happening

Heading to church one evening in late March, a farmworker and her sister were stopped for speeding in the village of Geneseo, N.Y. They were driving with their five children in the back of the minivan. Two were not in car seats, as required. The police officer, trying to cite the driver for the infractions, discovered she had no driver’s license, so he called Border Patrol to review her Guatemalan passport. Both sisters were undocumented immigrants. They were detained and are facing deportation. Under a Trump administration that has taken an aggressive stance on illegal immigration, the moving car has

The Humiliation Of Jeff Sessions- There is something more than a little jarring in the ongoing humiliation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions. In an ill-timed, ill-focused interview with the NYT, President Trump revisited his disdain for Sessions, his first, most-ardent and most-loyal supporter in the Senate. When supporting Trump was still considered career suicide, Sessions donned the red cap anyway. Maybe it will prove fatal for Sessions’ career, after all. The president has not made a secret of the fact that he blames Sessions for the scandal that now engulfs the Trump administration, claiming in

President Trump sat down with Russian President Vladimir Putin for a second discussion at the G-20 summit in Germany this month — a talk the White House never disclosed, according to reports. The talk came hours after their two-hour bilateral meeting on July 7, towards the end of a “couples-only social dinner” at the summit, National Security Council spokesman Michael Anton told CNN. Trump and Putin conversed in the room where the dinner was being held. “No staff or Cabinet were at the dinner at all, for any of the countries,” Anton said, adding that translators were present. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has been diagnosed with brain cancer, the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix said Wednesday. The tumor was discovered after the senior Arizona senator underwent a minor procedure last week to remove a blood clot from above his left eye. "Subsequent tissue pathology revealed that a primary brain tumor known as a glioblastoma was associated with the blood clot," the hospital said in a statement. “The Senator and his family are reviewing further treatment options with his Mayo Clinic care team. Treatment options may include a combination of chemotherapy and radiation."

The U.S. special counsel investigating possible ties between the Donald Trump campaign and Russia in last year’s election is examining a broad range of transactions involving Trump’s businesses as well as those of his associates, according to a person familiar with the probe. The president told the New York Times on Wednesday that any digging into matters beyond Russia would be out of bounds. Trump’s businesses have involved Russians for years, making the boundaries fuzzy so Special Counsel Robert Mueller appears to be taking a wide-angle approach to his two-month-old probe. FBI investigators and others are looking at Russian purchases of apartments
