Martin Landau, Actor Who Won
an Oscar for ‘Ed Wood,’ Dies at 89

New York Times, by Anita Gates

Original Article

Martin Landau, the tall, intense, sometimes mischievously sinister actor best known for his role in the television series “Mission: Impossible” and his Oscar-winning portrayal of Bela Lugosi in the film “Ed Wood,” died Saturday in Los Angeles. He was 89. His death was confirmed by his publicist. Mr. Landau starred on the hit CBS suspense drama “Mission: Impossible” as Rollin Hand, a versatile covert-operations agent, from its debut in 1966 until 1969. After the show’s third season, he and Barbara Bain, his wife and co-star, left because of a contractual dispute. But the series had served its purpose.

Comments:
One of my favorite lines ever came from him in "Ed Wood". It wasn´t just what he said, but the way he delivered it. It truly always makes me laugh. Thanks, Martin. R.I.P.

From "Ed Wood", as Bella Lugosi: "Home? I have no home. Hunted... despised... living like an animal. The jungle is my home! But I will show the world that I can be its master. I shall perfect my own race of people... a race of atomic supermen that will conquer the world!"

Wow hard to believe he was 89. He was superb on MI until Desilu got greedy and wouldn´t give him a raise.Bain got mad and quit wrecking the show. I´ve seen every episode dozens of times now blocked by youtube.

My favorite movie is "Joseph"; Landau portrays Jacob/Israel, father of the Twelve Tribes. He is marvelous in this Ted Turner masterpiece. I watch it at least once a week. (I didn´t know that Turner produced religious themed movies, but this one goes beyond any label.)

Loved Mission Impossible! One of my early crushes as a young lad was Barbara Bain [not to mention Pat Priest and Agent 99 and Mary Ann on the island, but I digress].

OP, I believe I know exactly which line you are referring to; it has to do with his opinion of another gentleman´s fitness to, how shall I say, get a whiff of the situation?

Who can ever forget the brilliant theme song and the struck match? Landau was my hero; he was part of my childhood.
This very well-written article just goes to show you that when the NYTimes WANTS to, they can write a completely fair, objective, unbiased, factual piece which informs the reader about an event. Imagine that.

Mission Impossible was must see TV for me. Martin and his wife at the time were an integral part of the show. The whole cast was great. Peter Graves was so suave, barney, the tech genius was great. Willy was dumped from the show for a while, but fan outrage brought him back. The best MI shows were when Desilu Studios were in charge, the idiots at Paramount cheapen the show, but I still watched.

Free speech week: The circus is back at
Berkeley (and there are plenty of clowns)
Fox News, by John Yoo, Steven F. Hayward,    Original Article
Posted By: LittleHoodedMonk- 9/22/2017 4:31:30 PM     Post Reply
The circus is returning to the University of California, Berkeley, as a sequel to rioting in February by black-clad protesters angered by the campus visit of conservative speaker Milo Yiannapolous. The goal of the protestors then and now is simple: demonize and silence conservatives. Shamefully, the Berkeley rioting was permitted by a hands-off attitude by university administrators. After a now-departed chancellor and his aides ordered University of California police to stand aside, rioters set fires, inflicted $100,000 in damage to university buildings, and prevented Yiannapolous from speaking.

Seoul, South Korea - North Korea has long cultivated an image of defiant belligerence, punctuating its propaganda and diplomacy with colorful threats, insults and bluffs. (Snip) The North Korean news media carried photographs of Mr. Kim sitting in his office and reading his statement, but his voice was not broadcast. On the country’s state-run Central TV, a female announcer read his statement.

President Trump on Friday labeled Kim Jong-un a “mad man,” shortly after the North Korean leader had called him a “mentally deranged U.S. dotard.” “Kim Jong Un of North Korea, who is obviously a madman who doesn’t mind starving or killing his people, will be tested like never before!” Mr. Trumptweeted. Mr. Trump was apparently responding to the North Korean leader’s reaction to the president’s address to the United Nations. “Far from making remarks of any persuasive power that can be viewed to be helpful to defusing tension, he made unprecedented rude nonsense one has never heard from any of his

Sen. John McCain almost certainly just killed TrumpCare — and gave a boost to managed-care stocks such as UnitedHealth (UNH) and Centene (CNC). The Arizona Republican declared that he couldn´t "in good conscience" vote for the Graham-Cassidy plan to repeal ObamaCare and replace it with block grants to states. John McCain?Verified account @SenJohnMcCain I cannot in good conscience vote for Graham-Cassidy. A bill impacting so many lives deserves a bipartisan approach. The news brought a sudden turnaround in managed-care stocks, though much of that was short-lived. Shares of Centene, whose fortunes are more tied to the ObamaCare exchanges and Medicaid

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) announced on Friday that he will vote against the latest GOP effort to repeal ObamaCare, potentially dooming the legislation. “I cannot in good conscience vote for the Graham-Cassidy proposal. I believe we could do better working together, Republicans and Democrats, and have not yet really tried," he said in a statement, referring to the legislation spearheaded by GOP Sens. Lindsey Graham (S.C) and Bill Cassidy (La.). McCain´s announcement leaves GOP leadership with no room for error.

The Senate’s top Democrat offered praise for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) after he said he would oppose the latest ObamaCare repeal bill, which narrows the chance that Republicans can get the legislation to President Trump’s desk. “John McCain shows the same courage in Congress that he showed when he was a naval aviator,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said an hour after McCain’s statement. “I have assured Senator McCain that as soon as repeal is off the table, we Democrats are intent on resuming the bipartisan process.” McCain is the second Republican, after Sen. If NFL fans continue to turn away from football, the TV networks could lose as much as $200 million in earnings, according to a new report. After ratings for Week Two crashed, adding to the angst already felt by a poor showing in Week 1, industry insiders and analysts are sounding the alarm. A new report claims that CBS, ESPN, Fox and NBC could take a $200 million hit to their estimated $2.5 billion in NFL advertising earnings if fans continue to turn off the TV, the The Hollywood Reporter noted recently. The worries over earnings are not allayed by

His pre-dawn raid was meant to intimidate Manafort, not just to collect evidence. Robert Mueller’s sprawling special-counsel investigation is playing hardball. It was not enough to get a search warrant to ransack the Virginia home of Paul Manafort, even as the former Trump campaign chairman was cooperating with congressional investigators. Mueller’s bad-asses persuaded a judge to give them permission to pick the door lock. That way, they could break into the premises in the wee hours, while Manafort and his wife were in bed sleeping. They proceeded to secure the premises — of a man they are reportedly investigating for tax and financial crimes, not gang murders and Mafia hits — by drawing their guns on the stunned couple, apparently to check their pajamas for weapons. Mueller’s probe more resembles an empire, with 17 prosecutors retained on the public dime. So . . .
