Unruly passenger blocked from
cockpit, taped to seat as fighter
jets escort American flight

Two U.S. fighter jets were summoned Friday to escort a flight from Los Angeles to Hawaii after an unruly man was subdued by passengers and flight attendants, who used a drink cart to block him from the front of the plane. The man, identified by law enforcement officials as Anil Uskanil, 25, of Turkey, was duct-taped to his seat until the plane landed in Honolulu and federal agents boarded the plane and arrested him, passenger Lee Lorenzen said. "The flight attendants just were really heroic," Lorenzen said. "By the time we landed and the FBI took him into custody,

Maybe airlines should be able to sue the crap out of disruptive passengers - over and above the law enforcement part.

Just wondering what help the fighter jets are in this situation. Are they there to shoot down the airliner if it´s headed for a skyscraper? Or are they just there to dissuade a terrorist from trying to take over controls of the airplane?

The thug was caught in an unauthorized section of the airport, then was allowed to board the flight to Hawaii? Why? To get him out of the CA jurisdiction? What´s wrong with law enforcement? Oh, that´s right. This is Jerry Brown´s let every criminal run free edict.

The FBI shoulda just unbolted the seat and carried him, seat and all, off the plane, thru the airport an to the closest jail cell and left him there for a few days like that to ripen up. He´d be real docile (and smelly) when cut out of it!

When we were racing cars, it was called Super Tape. With good reason. At times we could not have gotten along without it.

Will this use make that list of 1000 things you can do with duct tape?

Airline personnel are already judge and jury. Why not finish the trifecta and give them some plastic cuffs for "emergencies". I sounds like he should never have been permitted on the plane. Are there some new rules especially for "middle easterners"?

I hope that, by now, everyone (at least here) understands that once the aircraft is in the air and pressurized, it is entirely impossible for anyone to open a door.
In fact, if it keeps them occupied, letting them play with the handle is perfectly safe.

The door has to move inward, and the force required is many thousands of pounds due to the pressure differential. Nobody will ever open the door while the pressurization is on, which is essentially all the time the aircraft is in the air, unless the pilot´s intentionally depressurize it from the cockpit. It is a bit like worrying that someone will pick up your car and carry it off. Not going to happen.

After 9/11/01, any passenger who gets out of line after the plane is in the air deserves whatever he gets. This clown possibly put 181 other passengers in danger. The fighters do indeed have the option of shooting the plane down if the passenger gains access to the cockpit and overpowers the flight crew. If the Air Force had been in position to save 3000 people in the WTC by shooting down the two planes, they would have. The fact that we could not imagine anybody committing that horrible atrocity allowed it to happen. Not any more.

CIA Director Mike Pomepo [sic] also said President Trump is an “avid consumer” of intelligence reports. “I cannot imagine a statement that is any more false than one that would attribute President Trump of not being interested in the intelligence community. He is an avid consumer of the products the CIA provides,” Pompeo said in an interview with Hugh Hewitt that aired Saturday on MSNBC. “I’m with the president nearly every day,” Pompeo said. Frustrated Democrats hoping to elevate their election fortunes have a resounding message for party leaders: Stop talking so much about Russia. Democratic leaders have been beating the drum this year over the ongoing probes into the Trump administration’s potential ties to Moscow, taking every opportunity to highlight the saga and forcing floor votes designed to uncover any business dealings the president might have with Russian figures. But rank-and-file Democrats say the Russia-Trump narrative is simply a non-issue with district voters, who are much more worried about bread-and-butter economic concerns like jobs, wages and the cost of

Remarkably, for Nancy Pelosi, yes. By juxtaposing the relatively narrow margins of defeat in four 2017 special elections with earlier blowouts in

Oslo — On January 9, 2009, Grace Gao woke up with a strange feeling. She sensed that someone was going on a long journey. Yet no one in the apartment was packing. Everything was normal — as normal as it ever was. Her dad was holding her brother tightly, however. Then he held her and her mom tightly. So she knew: It was they — mother, daughter, and son — who were going on a long journey. On that day, they escaped China. First they went by motorbike. Then they hid in the luggage hold of a bus. BETHESDA, Md. — The Justice Department will form partnerships with a dozen cities across the country to help them fight gun crime, drug trafficking and gang violence, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Tuesday. Under the program — the Trump administration’s latest move in prioritizing a reduction in violent crime — advisers and consultants will help local law enforcement officials develop strategies to combat violent crime. The cities will not receive funding as part of the initiative, a Justice Department spokesman said. “We will make America and every American neighborhood safe again,” Mr. Sessions said, announcing the partnerships at the start of a

California is restricting publicly funded travel to four more states because of recent laws that leaders here view as discriminatory against gay and transgender people. All totaled, California now bans most state-funded travel to eight states. The new additions to California’s restricted travel list are Texas, Alabama, Kentucky and South Dakota. They join Kansas, Mississippi, North Carolina and Tennessee as states already subjected to the ban. California Attorney Xavier Becerra announced the new states at a Thursday press conference, where he was joined by representatives from ACLU Northern California and Equality California.

Most illegal immigrants who pay taxes have stolen someone else’s legal identity, and the IRS doesn’t do a very good job of letting those American citizens and legal immigrants know they’re being impersonated, the tax agency’s inspector general said in a new report released Thursday. The theft creates major problems for the American citizens and legal foreign workers whose identities are stolen, and who have to deal with explaining money they never earned. But the IRS only manages to identify half of the potentially 1.4 million people likely affected by the fraud in 2015, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax

The end of the Supreme Court term looms, and with it the prospect — the terrifying prospect — of a retirement. Specifically, the retirement of Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, who will turn 81 next month and is the longest-serving current justice, named to the high court almost 30 years ago. So if Kennedy is inclined to retire, it is hard to begrudge him that choice. But his departure would be terrible for the court and terrible for the country. It could not come at a worse time. The deadly collision between a U.S. destroyer and a container ship June 17 took place while the freighter was on autopilot, according to Navy officials. The Philippines-flagged cargo ship ACX Crystal was under control of a computerized navigation system that was steering and guiding the container vessel, according to officials familiar with preliminary results of an ongoing Navy investigation. Investigators so far found no evidence the collision was deliberate. Nevertheless, an accident during computerized navigation raises the possibility the container ship´s computer system could have been hacked and the ship deliberately steered into the USS Fitzgerald, an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer. President Obama has been out of office only a few months. But he might have both a street and an L.A. freeway named after him soon. Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson has proposed renaming Rodeo Road in southwest L.A. “Obama Boulevard” in honor of the president. Wesson noted that Obama held a campaign rally at Rancho Cienega Park on Rodeo Road when running for president and that the area already has streets named after presidents (Washington, Jefferson, Adams). In May, a plan to name a stretch of the 134 Freeway after Obama moved forward with approval from the
