Eli Lake is right: The DOJ’s appointment of widely-respected former prosecutor Robert Mueller to lead the special inquiry into the Trump campaign’s potential collusion with Russia is a reprieve for a Trump Administration in crisis—a reprieve that it will almost certainly squander, but a reprieve nonetheless. How do we know? Because the responses from Trump’s most dogged critics on the Russia question betray a kind of anxiety about the Mueller appointment—an anxiety that the no-nonsense law enforcement wise man will lower the temperature in Washington without actually uncovering enough damaging material to bring down the President.
The Liberals should remember Ken Starr where he started in his investigation and where he ended up. Mueller may be led to Hillary´s e-mails, or her uranium deal with Russia or John & Tony Podesta´s big buck deals with Russia. And maybe to Seth Rich´s murder.
President Trump is not tired; he is not overworked, he is not confused, and furthermore he is not anything the media wants you to think. I´m 5 years older than he is and I am still working a full week and walking to work from the train. Only difference, I don´t have the huge load of crap the media puts on his back expecting him to tote it.
Young Willick (a senior at Stanford three short years ago) seems to share the antipathy toward President Trump. His writing highlights the Dems and GOPe’s concern that Mueller will not be able to do enough. That he will only deal with any illegal activity. That other contacts with Russia will somehow go unpunished. “Rats! Foiled again!”
Their desire for a “special counsel” (they like “special prosecutor” better because of the implication that crime(s) will be found) was based on their desire for an independent fishing trip into every corner of President Trump’s and his people’s lives. A witch hunt with no prior evidence of witches.
Do any of these people realize that in today’s world having “contact” with a country with which we are not at war is not a cause to upturn our country’s government? The name of the Russian ambassador keeps coming up, yet we have already heard that Kislyak is a social butterfly who meets with anybody and everybody…
This is about personal hate. Envy. Frustration that he won. We won. All of the more base things in humanity.
If the establishment would stop taking orders from Hillary, it would do everyone a great deal of good. The sinister players behind the scenes don´t care if there´s no crime. They just want to roll the, "Trump was under investigation", for the next midterms. However, the fact there won´t be any good outcome for the establishment will eclipse any benefits they expect to derive from the witch hunt, er investigation. The democrats might even try to fabricate evidence and that too will backfire.
If Trump is being investigated, then the investigation should include all past politicians also including Obama, and Bill and Hillary Clinton along with their staff people like John Podesta and Valerie Jarrett. There are certainly more things to see concerning the Clinton Foundation and Obama´s Iran "Deal" and they should be exposed and prosecuted for abuse of power and other crimes while in office.
Speaking of "Russian Influence" on the election, I´m looking forward to: 1) investigation of the Uranium One deal that depleted our reserves and enriched the Clinton Foundation; 2) the examination of the Seth Rich laptop to see who actually leaked Podesta´s proclivities for such things as "spirit cooking" and "alien disclosure" to WikiLeaks.
The only crime that seems to have been committed was all the hacking of the Democrats. Has anyone identified the hacker(s)? Until that is done, motive cannot be determined. Neither can collusion if any exists. All the lefties trying to tie Trump to Russia conveniently ignore this. The left wants to convict Trump without any crime. It doesn´t work that way.
If Mueller is impartial, the left should be very concerned. He can take the case in any direction that indicates crime. Not sure if Mueller will be impartial. Isn´t Mueller originally a Bush appointee? No love lost on Trump with regard to the Bushes.
Since it´s been many months now that NO information of any kind that has surfaced that Trump had any actions with the Russians that had any effect on the outcome of the election, it´s safe to say that there ISN´T any said information. What we here is the Dims screaming long and loud that they lost the election even after the "polls" told them that Hillary was a shoo in. They simply can´t get past the idea that American voters did see thing that they did. And with all of the mess that is going on now, has the Dims ever thought that just what might happen in the future? That a lot of American voters can see and what they are doing and why? That the Dims are essentially telling those voters that their vote doesn´t mean a thing? That those same voters just might turn on them even harder that they have done during the past 8 yrs? It´s something that they should consider.
"almost certainly squander" - you are giving in to the literary standards of the swamp, where every editorial column includes a damnation of POTUS, preferably freshly worded. it is just cowardly and weak. do not give in. their standards are low and wrong. Does Camille Paglia have to instruct you in courage? do not include the ritual epithet against potus. leave it out. it is not true, it is cliche, it is weak.
Perhaps the #nevertrump Globalist free trader CON-servative CON-stitutionalists will find a conscience and repent from opposing the President that can - and will - save out indispensable Nation.
For your information, Russia is no longer Communist and is about the sole Christian state in the world.
Russia good, Alger Hiss bad. Trump good, Obama bad. America First good, NeverTrumper Globalism bad. Nationalism good, Swamp bad.
Do not miss the Trump Train for your own good. Our beloved President Trump will give you prosperity, fracking, coal mining, oil pipelines, less regulation, repeal of a Obamacare taxes, 15% business tax, 10% repatriation tax, no death tax, no common core, local education, deport foreign drug and sex traffickers, enforce existing laws and much more, including defeating women with Vagina hats.
I stand with President Trump 100% because he is the great American Hope, and so can you if you love our USA. Consider this your last chance, circle your wagons, and stand athwart this Communist coup d´etat. This salon is a microcosm of the existential struggle taking place presently in our Nation. Stand up and be counted. We won and now is the moment to exert our will and reverse the tragic Obama legacy.
My "Rewriting American History" column of a fortnight ago, about the dismantling of Confederate monuments, generated considerable mail. Some argued there should not be statues honoring traitors such as Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson and Jefferson Davis, who fought against the Union. Victors of wars get to write the history, and the history they write often does not reflect the facts. Let´s look at some of the facts and ask: Did the South have a right to secede from the Union? If it did, we can´t label Confederate generals as traitors. Article 1 of the Treaty of Paris (1783), which ended
Steven Donziger, a left-wing lawyer with connections to the Obama administration and Andrew Cuomo’s administration in New York, attempted to orchestrate a multi-billion-dollar shakedown of Chevron in a case that was later thrown out by a federal judge as the product of “egregious fraud.” For once, the word “egregious” may not be quite strong enough: In dollar terms, Donziger’s case against Chevron may very well be the largest attempt at extortion in human history. The case involves environmental damage in a remote part of the Ecuadorian rainforest. What might be of some interest is that Chevron — this may strike
Federal authorities are investigating a breach into computer systems of at least one U.S. nuclear power plant, sources familiar with the matter tell ABC News. There is no evidence that any particularly sensitive or operational systems were breached. Instead, authorities believe only a less sensitive, business-associated side of systems were compromised. The breach was first reported by E&E News, which covers the energy and environment sectors. E&E notes that the hack did not garner the attention of the public safety alert systems at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission or the International Atomic Energy Agency, which could be further evidence of a low risk
Since the election, scores of activists have taken to the streets, town halls and rallies to blast President Trump. That’s all with the blessing of their boss thanks to social justice benefits and paid time off work policies that are growing in popularity. At San Francisco marketing firm Traction, social justice benefits take the form of two so-called "Days of Action" a year. "They can take part in a protest, they can volunteer for a cause that is meaningful to them," says CEO Adam Kleinberg. "Civic engagement is a foundation of our democracy, and companies should encourage it."
The Democratic base is growing increasingly frustrated with former President Barack Obama’s actions after leaving office, including a seemingly endless tour of millionaire and billionaire luxury retreats, according to Democrats and activists contacted by Fox News. Ex-presidents, understandably and un-controversially, go on vacations immediately after leaving office. But the level of luxury the Obamas enjoy on their vacations is unprecedented for a modern-day president, say travel experts. Since leaving office in late January, Obama has visited late actor Marlon Brando’s private island; the Four Seasons in Bali -- where rooms cost upward of $2,000 per night; a Palm Springs estate; Sir
The media has hyperobsessed over the Kansas tax hike this year and sold it as a repudiation of supply-side economics. But the real story in the states has been the catastrophic effects of tax-and-spend fiscal policy in Illinois. Last week, Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan endorsed a $5 billion annual income tax hike. This would be the largest tax increase of any state in years. Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner has blocked new taxes for three years but is now under intense pressure from the Springfield political machine to agree to the revenue heist. Anyone who thinks this soak-the-rich scheme will
Samuel Johnson once said, “When a man knows he is to be hanged ... it concentrates his mind wonderfully.” For opponents of the Trump immigration order, minds became distinctly more concentrated around 11am this morning, when the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated much of Trump’s order in a reversal of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. While the court will hear the merits in October and could still rule against the administration, these preliminary decisions often reflect a view of underlying merits. For those of us who have long argued that the legal authority supported Trump, the order was
Former national security adviser and UN ambassador Susan Rice refuses to go quietly into retirement, even though she remains one of the most controversial figures of the Obama Administration. Now, thanks to a glowing profile in New York Magazine, we know that despite Susan Rice’s very public shortcomings (whatever happened to that dastardly filmmaker who spurred violence across the Middle East, anyway?), she believes any criticism of her tenure is at least partly the result of racism and sexism. When asked why she became a “target” in the Trump Administration, she replied, “I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about
Just days before he resigns from Congress, Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) said Monday that House and Senate lawmakers should receive a $2,500 per month housing allowance — something he explained would help ease housing costs for members who can’t afford two mortgages or rents. “I really do believe Congress would be much better served if there was a housing allowance for members of Congress,” Chaffetz told The Hill in an interview in his Capitol office, where he sleeps whenever he’s in Washington. “In today’s climate, nobody’s going to suggest or vote for a pay raise. But you shouldn’t have to be
Ohio Gov. John Kasich came out against the Senate Republican health care bill Sunday, saying both Republicans and Democrats need to do a better job at helping poor people. “Both parties ought to be worried about poor people, because I don’t think either party particularly cares about helping poor people,” Mr. Kasich, who lost the Republican Party’s presidential nomination to President Trump last year, told CNN’s Dana Bash. “You look at the rates of poverty, the problems in this country,” he continued. “We have not designed a system to get people work. Everything we’re talking about now — getting people
Actor and filmmaker Rob Reiner was shredded by social media users over the weekend after he called for an “all out war” to resist President Donald Trump. Writing on Twitter Sunday, the All in the Family star mentioned a Fox News report about the Trump campaign’s alleged collusion with Russia during the 2016 election. “When Fox says that DT colluding with the enemy is not a crime, the fight to save Democracy is now an all out war. US-Stay strong. #Treason,” he wrote. (Tweet) Reiner’s remarks were slammed by several social media users, many of them suggesting that the actor’s tweet
The Obama adventures continue! Barack Obama and his family went rafting on the Ayung River in Bali on Monday amid their nine-day vacation to Indonesia, where the former president lived for several years as a child. Obama, wife Michelle and their daughters, Sasha and Malia, were invited to vacation in Indonesia by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, who also asked the family to visit the presidential Bogor Palace in West Java during their trip, according to ABC News. Obama will also speak at an Indonesian Diaspora Congress in Jakarta on July 1. Obama moved to Indonesia in 1967 at age 6
A U.S. warship struck by a container vessel in Japanese waters failed to respond to warning signals or take evasive action before a collision that killed seven of its crew, according to a report of the incident by the Philippine cargo ship´s captain. Multiple U.S. and Japanese investigations are under way into how the guided missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald and the much larger ACX Crystal container ship collided in clear weather south of Tokyo Bay in the early hours of June 17. In the first detailed account from one of those directly involved, the cargo ship´s captain said the ACX Crystal had
The New York Daily News’ senior justice writer Shaun King blasted Christians Monday for perpetrating white supremacy for their support of President Donald Trump’s immigration halt. King put out a series of tweets accusing Christians who supported the halt of “fake faith” after the Supreme Court allowed Trump’s immigration ban to go into effect. (Snip) “To support a ban on immigrants & refugees, while calling yourself a Christian, is not faith, it’s white supremacy disguised as religion,” King tweeted.
