We’re relieved that Team Trump has denied Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s claim that the president-elect is naming him to chair a commission on “vaccination safety and scientific integrity.” That would’ve been putting a madman in charge of the asylum. RFK is the national spokesman for the Looney Tunes brigade that claims pediatric vaccines cause autism and a vast government conspiracy is to blame. The scientific consensus disproving these claims is overwhelming. Yet Kennedy has still traveled the nation preaching his ludicrous gospel — even at one time talking of “a holocaust” that’s “destroyed the lives of 20 million children.” Thanks to such quackery,
On one hand, naming him to the group might have been a good thing. He would be surrounded by people that very much pro-scientific evidence and the resultant report would be exactly like all the other studies that are pro-vaccine. He would then be standing out there all alone and exposed as a fake for all to see. Just a thought.
Just the Kennedy name alone speaks of a legacy of social engineering and power-mongering. We´ve managed to put the name of Clinton in its proper place in history, I hope someday we can scrape the remnants of the Kennedy family into the dustbin of history as well. Dump them right on top of Oblahblah as a pile of the most vile examples of Leftism.
I really despise the Kennedys and hold them in contempt...
It is sad to see good people struggling to deal with autism and its enormous challenges. How tempting then, to seize on an easy, finger-pointing ´answer,´ blaming Big Pharma and evil doctors for our troubles. Unfortunately, the blamers are victims of bad science, a charlatan´s old faked numbers, and a sleazy politician´s grab for witch-hunt fame. The theory was totally discredited years ago, and long after the mercury compounds were removed, even in unvaccinated children, we still have autism. Later studies by reputable institutions point to genetic developmental damage. Those poor gullible souls who believed the bad science, and still refuse to vaccinate their children do a huge disservice to not only their own little ones, but to others. Such ignorance and superstition is shameful. And I am appalled that Trump would appoint that corrupt Kennedy idiot to any public post. What a terrible, stupid move. Plays right into the preconception that Trump is an ignoramus, scientically illiterate. Hate to see the Dems nodding triumphantly and saying, "Toldja so."
I´ve heard all the reports and studies. But no one can tell me why that in a 10 year period, three families in our neighborhood had 2 autistic kids, 1 deaf child, another with JRA. Their families did not have any history with any of these diseases. There were two other families with a total of 9 other kids. They didn´t get the shots. They were all healthy.
Have always thought it was up to the President-elect to announce his commissions and appointments. That is why skepticism reigned when it was read that Robert Kennedy, Jr. announced his own appointment.
Also, was very surprised to see that the major news media ran with what Kennedy said without first confirming it with the Trump people. On second thought, maybe not so surprised.
The fake news is getting deep. There is no such thing as a "scientific consensus", it´s an oxymoron. There is scientific evidence, there is scientific theory, and there is human consensus, but there is no such thing as scientific consensus.
For the record I do not believe in conspiracy theories, they are almost always a hoax. Vaccines have a large body of scientific evidence that they are generally safe, with a very small percentage of negative reactions.
NOTHING is 100% risk free. We are all dead, in the end.
Getting out of bed every day is a risk, but so is staying in bed.
The risks of not vaccinating children are many millions of times worse than any risks of vaccinating children. In centuries past, typically 1/5th to half of children died in their youth.
Around 100 million people died worldwide only a century ago from the flu. Smallpox killed millions, too. Now we can get vaccinated against them, and even if they miss the mark a bit on the flu strain, it is just a minor inconvenience for a few days. Smallpox is almost gone. Now it is rare that a child dies of disease.
Vaccinations is a huge part of the reason. Eliminate them and the diseases will roar back and once again scythe down millions of children and adults.
Vaccinate your kids. Not to do so is parental neglect. As the earlier poster said, there used to be a world with no protection against diseases. Now that they are available, it is beyond foolish not to protect your children as much as possible.
Agree with #2 - a health-professional relative and also a pediatrician friend have many children patients who developed autism immediately after receiving childhood immunizations. Two major points: first, the actual anti-disease components of these vaccines are probably not the problem - it´s the extra stuff they put in the formulas (called adjuvants) that probably cause the damage. (E.g., there is still thimerisol (mercury) in some vaccines); second, the practice of giving multiple vaccines at the same time can overload the very tender immune systems of children, especially those who are naturally "weak" or susceptible to reactions. The hysteria that an unvaccinated child is a major health risk is overblown and being used to sell the pro-vaccine case. What happened to just having and recovering from a childhood disease that rendered the person immune for life?
Agree with #2 and #15, particularly #2´s last sentence... As a first-time gramma who was raised a Christian Scientist [not seeing doctors, but know better now as well as now a Believer in Christ] as a child and having had measles and was quarantined in home by my then wise parents, doing much research and have one question to pediatricians and others?
Why does a newborn baby before leaving hospital need a hepitatis B vaccine who has had no illegal drug use or unprotected sex?
The answer is "To get parents in the ´system´ for over 50 more vaccines."
If you look at a map that shows occurrences of typical childhood disease in the Los Angeles area, for example, all of the outbreaks are in the prosperous west side. There were no instances - none - in East LA because parents there have their children vaccinated. Kids in West LA are taking advantage of the herd immunity that´s created when 90%-plus of children are vaccinated.
Of course, discuss a sensible plan and schedule for vaccinating children with your pediatrician - there´s no need to take all the vaccinations at once! - but by all means do vaccinate your children. Their young lives depend on it, and your children depend on you to do the right thing.
BTW the British doctor who concocted the myth that vaccinations cause autism lost his medical license for having faked data in his "study." This is fake news if ever there were any.
Media outlets have labeled Rep. Maxine Waters (D., Calif.) as the new Democratic leader for millennials to rally behind. Various publications have been revving up coverage of Waters as a millennial icon after the congresswoman abruptly left a confidential meeting with FBI Director James Comey, claiming he did not have any credibility. In late January, Elle magazine published an article titled, "Congresswoman Maxine Waters Will Read You Now." The article talks about Waters´ impressive "shade"–meaning the ability to underhandedly insult people–calling her "this week´s Shade Bae." "I´m tempted to elect Congresswoman Waters as this week´s Shade Bae, but shade is subtle. Waters doesn´t
Broken promises are as old as politics itself, and there are many famous examples of them in modern history. President George H.W. Bush´s "read my lips, no new taxes" pledge comes immediately to mind, as does President Bill Clinton reneging on his middle-class tax cut, and President Barack Obama never closing Guantanamo Bay. But in each of those cases, those were promises that were made in a given campaign by a given politician. The promise of Obamacare repeal is much different. Republicans ran on repealing and replacing Obamacare for seven years, over the course of four election cycles. They won the
Brexit was caused in part by climate change, former US Vice-President Al Gore has said, warning that extreme weather is creating political instability “the world will find extremely difficult to deal with”. Mr Gore, speaking at an event in which he previewed a sequel to his landmark 2006 documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, said the “principal” cause of the Syrian Civil War had been the worst drought in 900 years, which forced 1.5 million people to move from the countryside to the cities. There they met a similar number of Iraqis who had fled the conflict in their homeland, creating powder keg conditions
OK: Republicans now stand exposed as badly divided on how to replace ObamaCare. So it’s time to move on with the “jobs, jobs, jobs” core of the Trump agenda. The bill Speaker Paul Ryan pulled from the floor Friday wasn’t good enough for most of the Freedom Caucus, but pleasing them would’ve lost other Republicans. Every GOP member of Congress has been damning ObamaCare for eight years — without working out with each other what they’re actually for. So it’s back to the drawing board (or the conference room). Maybe “living with ObamaCare for the foreseeable future” (as Ryan put it) will be
A series of controversies and a stalled legislative agenda might be a drag on President Trump’s approval ratings, but campaign finance records show Democrats have failed to cash in on the chaos. Despite making a money pitch after every misstatement or errant tweet, the Democratic National Committee raised $6.4 million last month, compared to $9.5 million pulled in by the Republican National Committee, according to FEC reports filed Monday. Republicans got off to a good start with a record-setting $20 million haul in January, which is double the total raised by their Democratic counterpart in the first two months of 2017. To date,
Saudis, Russia, shale. That is all ye need to know in order to understand the oil market. The Saudis lead the OPEC oil cartel, Russia is their largest potential fellow traveler, and the Permian Basin in the Southwest is the oil-rich shale that stands between the other two and $100 per barrel oil. There was a time when the Saudi-led cartel of 13 oil producers could more or less control the price of oil. If the market got so high as to encourage the development of alternatives to oil, the Saudis would open the taps and increase production to bring prices
The latest Leftist hypocrisy is in, and it´s a doozy. Progressives are losing their minds over President Trump´s budget proposal for all sorts of reasons. Under his legal obligation, President Trump submitted his proposed budget to Congress for approval. If you listen to the Democrat Media Complex, it will hurt the poor, the young, the elderly, the rural, the vulnerable, the arts, the sciences, Big Bird, and federal workers. In typical liberal self-unaware fashion, progressives fail to remember how President Obama blew off his legal obligation to submit a budget proposal by the statutory deadline in seven of his eight years
House Republican leaders abruptly pulled a Republican rewrite of the nation’s health-care system from consideration on Friday, a dramatic acknowledgment that they are so far unable to repeal the Affordable Care Act. “We just pulled it,” President Trump told The Washington Post in a telephone interview. The decision came a day after President Trump delivered an ultimatum to lawmakers — and represented multiple failures for the new president and House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.). The decision means the Affordable Care Act remains in place, at least for now, and a major GOP campaign promise goes unfulfilled. It also casts
Chelsea Clinton´s chief of staff complained on Thursday that her boss just can´t catch a break. Bari Lurie is Clinton´s chief of staff at the Clinton Foundation, where the former first daughter is vice chair. Lurie took to Twitter on Thursday to lament that Clinton, like her mother, failed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, "never gets a break." (Tweet) The tweet included a link to a op-ed published Thursday in the Los Angeles Times, titled "Just like her mother, Chelsea Clinton never gets a break." The article´s author, Ann Friedman, defends Clinton from her critics, arguing that she and her
Nearly three months after the Trump clan moved into their new posh Washington neighborhood, neighbors of Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner have expressed their fury over the presidential family´s lack of community etiquette that is ´ruining´ the suburb. Residents have complained their new neighbors have been hogging parking on an already crowded street and leaving trash bags rotting on the curb. A big part of the complaint: a huge security presence, with even a trip to the playground requiring three vans. They have groused that sidewalks have been closed, public parking overrun and that the family and their staff can´t
Republican officials in Congress and the White House are now openly discussing finding a GOP replacement to Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) as Speaker of the House, after Ryan failed to pass the American Health Care Act out of the House and misled the public and President Donald Trump when he promised repeatedly the bill would pass. Ryan was caught on an audio file from October—obtained by Breitbart News and published a couple weeks ago—saying he is “not going to defend Donald Trump—not now, not in the future.” While the audio file does not make the comments clear, Ryan’s staff later claimed
In the last three months of the Obama presidency, significant personal information from and about the Trump transition was collected and widely disseminated at intelligence agencies, according to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes. Dozens of intelligence reports provided to Nunes by an unnamed whistleblower were floating around during the sensitive transition period following the election, he said. The information collection itself may have technically been legal, but the failure to properly mask the information “alarmed” the California congressman, who notified the White House of the surveillance and dissemination of information on Wednesday afternoon. Many of the reporters present didn’t seem to
BRUSSELS—Republican Senator John McCain revealed he hasn’t met the President Donald Trump in person since he took office, and he urged Trump to reach out to his opponents—Democratic and otherwise—ala Ronald Reagan if he wants to repeal Obamacare. “Do some outreach. Get to know some of these Democratic leaders,” he said. “You can find common ground.” McCain said he’d met Trump “some years ago” when he was a businessman, but had not met him since. McCain said he did speak “almost daily” to National Security Adviser Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, however. “He doesn’t seem to
Last night on his eponymous Fox News program, Tucker Carlson interviewed David Moyse, an attorney hired to defend 18 year-old Henry Sanchez-Milian, who is in this country illegally, against a charge of rape against a 14 year old girl in a bathroom at a Rockville, MD, high school. Moyse is one of those youngish (in his 30s) lawyers who gets himself on lists of up-and-comers, like this one, and is a name partner in a criminal defense firm.In going on TV to make the case for his client, Counselor Moyse found himself being cross-examined and saying something he soon had
