President Obama welcomed the members of the 1972 Miami Dolphins to the White House Tuesday to honor their legacy as the only undefeated team in modern NFL history. The president apologized to the team for referring to the 1985 Chicago Bears as the greatest team in football history during that team’s White House visit, saying his comments then should be “taken with a grain of salt.” Obama praised the post-football achievements of the Dolphins players, while a reference to running back Larry Csonka’s less-than-stellar television career drew laughs from both the audience and Csonka’s teammates.
Later he´ll be presiding over ribbon cutting ceremonies at the new Sizzler.
Jim Langer, Bob Kuechenberg and Manny Fernandez boycotted. Langer said he didn´t even want to be in the same room with these people. Langer´s a Hall of Famer. ´62 Packers were the best team ever, everyone knows that.
1972? That was a long time ago. Wasn´t Nixon still the president back then? We better get these guys to the WH before they die of old age.
Hey how about we get for the next meeting, Babe Ruth. Maybe we can get him to talk in that gravelly voice that I like. Or how about Lou Gehrig talking in that echo that he is the luckiest man alive. I love when they do that.
It could be that Mr. 57 states does not know these greats have already met their maker.
PS Is there any other business that might be more important? Egypt? Healthcare? Anybody home? Anybody?
Surprised Obama would honor this team. They were known for being a very pro- family Christan group of people who succeeded on and off the field. Griese was the epitome of the quiet professional who lost his beautiful wife at 35 to cancer and raised their young sons. Linebacker Swift became an anesthesiologist. DickAnderson and others were successful businessmen. Many were cast offs from other teams who showed that with good coaching and teamwork they could achieve great things. They represent a bygone era before football became synonymous with criminals and behemoths- when brains were as important as brawn. I knew all of them - they deserved better than to be used for a photo op by this fraud in the WH. When will our WH be opened to the People and this stain of corruption and treason be removed?
Wow. What a wonderful expenditure of tax dollars. Isn´t it great? There are no problems in the world; Ø has the time to laud some football team from 41 years ago. How about the UConn girl´s basketball team? How about the UCLA men´s basketball teams, who won for so many years? Face it. Ø is in over his head; all he can do is grab headlines; he has no clue about what is going in his (?) country or in the world. Gag.
NASA’s steady reconnaissance of Mars with the Curiosity rover has produced another major discovery: evidence of an ancient lake — with water that could plausibly be described as drinkable — that was part of a long-standing, wet environment that could have supported simple forms of life. Scientists have known that the young Mars was more Earthlike than the desert planet we see today, but this is the best evidence yet that Mars had swimming holes that stuck around for thousands or perhaps millions of years. (It would have been very chilly — bring a wet suit.) The findings were being
JOHANNESBURG — President Obama, his predecessor, and the woman who might be his successor crossed the Atlantic together Monday in an example of extended bipartisan togetherness to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela at a memorial service Tuesday. For more than 16 hours, Mr. Obama hosted former President George W. Bush and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton aboard Air Force One — part of a global pilgrimage that is expected to bring as many as 100 world leaders to South Africa. (Snip) On board the presidential aircraft as it flew to South Africa, White House aides said Mr. Obama
Today Politico´s Dylan Byers got tough on MSNBC with two posts calling into question the channel´s journalistic credibility. Byers started the day by going after MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry for something she said over the weekend. Harris-Perry claimed Sunday that the term Obamacare was an attempt by white people to denigrate a black President. Byers pointed out that "Hillarycare" and "Reaganomics" seem like similar appellations and asked, in light of these, how "Obamacare" could be implicitly racist while the other terms are not. It´s not clear whether Harris-Perry responded to Byers´ challenge privately but she did not tweet (or anything
World leaders have gathered in Johannesburg to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela at a memorial service for the former president of South Africa, five days after he died at the age of 95. Barack Obama was pictured arriving after a 17-hour flight from Washington on board Air Force One, during which he rode with his wife Michelle, former President George W. Bush, Laura Bush, and Hillary Clinton. He has been given a prominent role in the memorial service for former South African president Nelson Mandela - but may face awkward moments if he comes face to face with controversial leaders
Jim Murray, an English writer and one of the world’s top whiskey critics, believes Scottish malt is no match for American whiskey. “Generally speaking, bourbon … has overtaken Scotch,” he said, according to the Telegraph. Mr. Murray, who wrote “Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible,” argues that Scotland’s decrease in quality whiskey is due to the use of sulphur candles to sanitize some barrels that have been used to age sherry, giving it a “bitter finish.” Bourbon, however, is aged in virgin oak casks, which do not require sulphur treatment, the Telegraph said. “The best whiskey is coming not from Scotland any
Brothers Tryon, 19, and Tyshaune Kincade, 18, were formally charged Monday in the shooting death of Sergent First Class Jim Vester, 32, after arranging to sell the 12-year military veteran an iPad on Wednesday. According to phone records released by the police, the Indianapolis father wanted to buy an iPad from the brothers as a Christmas present for his parents based off of their Craigslist ad. At 3:05pm, Vester texted: ´Can I get your address´. At 3:14pm, the suspects texted him to meet at 920 Wyckford Dr. Vester arrived at the address at 3:49pm and texted: ´are you here?´ and the
Andrea Elliott, in her NY Times article "Invisible Child," articulates the disheartening existence of a family living on the meager support of government welfare. She invites her readers to look through the eyes of Dasani, the family´s 11-year-old girl. The family has a complex relationship with the welfare programs that both keep them afloat and keep their situation hopeless. Liberals advocate that welfare programs are designed to help the least fortunate and that they demonstrate a society’s compassion. However, sometimes too much compassion by the state can devolve into what recovering drug addicts would call "enabling." Moreover, the "compassionate environment"
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
A veteran Washington adviser who has worked for four Presidents on both sides of the political aisle said that the stunning Government Accountability Report report that found President Barack Obama has not had a one-on-one meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius since the passage of Obamacare over three years ago is an indictment of the entire White House operation and shows that the Obama administration has bordered on "malfeasance." "I have no doubt the White House is right, that Secretary Sebelius was in several group meetings with the president about health care," Gergen caveated, "but the whole
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
