Permits Soar to Allow
More Concealed Guns

Wall Street Journal, by Jack Nicas and Ashby Jones

Original Article

Posted By:pineledger, 7/5/2013 4:27:47 AM

A growing number of Americans are getting permission to carry firearms in public—and under their clothes—a development that has sparked concern among some law-enforcement authorities. Applications for "concealed-carry" permits are soaring in many states, some of which recently eased permit requirements. The numbers are driven in part by concern that renewed gun-control efforts soon could constrain access to weapons, along with heightened interest in self-defense in the wake of mass killings in Newtown, Conn., and Aurora, Colo.

Comments:
Interesting graphic about state gun laws with this article: 7 states do not permit concealed carry at all--Ohio, Wisconsin, Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, New Mexico(?), and that bastion of civility, Illinois.

I can´t access the article since its a subscription site. But if OP is correct about which states don´t allow concealed carry, then the article´s graphic is incorrect. Only Illinois doesn´t allow concealed carry. And, with the exception of many police chiefs, a political position, law enforcement is not at all concerned about citizens carrying.

I don´t think the threat of new gun laws or the Sandyhook shootings have anything to do with soaring gun sales. It has to do with the breakdown of civility in this country and living under the constant threat of riots if a trigger incident happens.

How many times a week do we see racial beatdowns now with law enforcement doing nothing about it?

These exclusion states are denying people a right to bear arms.

People know the extent of civil disorder caused by open borders, black on white crime, and a seething underclass ideologically driven to hate middle class and above, and the erosion of a democratic state to totalitarianism. They are also aware the Marxists are attempting a coup.

Most people getting these permits are not getting to actually carry, they´re getting to be able to carry. Before the right is taken away, they´re exercising their right to have the right. I´d wager less than one in ten are actually doing more than getting the permit. Their weapon remains locked away.

Jack and Ashby need some education. If this was an article about citizens being able to vote, they´d be screaming about the unconstitutional licensing and payment of fess to exercise a right clearly and succinctly laid out in the BOR and imposed on the states by the 14th amendment.

If a policeman is concerned about a licensed gun carrier, how concerned is he about going to a murder site after 1/2 hour delay in response versus going to a scene after 1/2 hour and picking up an unlicensed gun carrier wounded by a law-abiding gun carrier? Or the drop in crime because the criminals know that the victims can shoot back? No police think that they can respond to an emergency before some action has occurred unless they are lucky.

Add Hawaii to the states where you can not get a Conceal Carry Permit. I tried and was told that there are less than 50 CCW permits in all of Hawaii and they are all owned by political types. When I asked for the form to fill out just in case, the officer behind the desk just looked at me and laughed in my face and said...."You´ve got to be kidding!"

The Hague-—President Barack Obama, seeking to shift the trajectory of the crisis in Ukraine, will press U.S. allies Monday to suspend Russia from the Group of Eight leading nations and to adopt more sweeping sanctions against the Russian economy, administration officials said. Mr. Obama will argue for those steps in an emergency meeting Monday evening with leaders of the world´s top seven economies, held on the sidelines of a nuclear security summit in The Hague, officials said. "We believe that there is no reason for the G-7 countries to engage with Russia going forward based on its behavior," Ben Rhodes,

Advertising executives didn’t need a scientific study to surmise what would draw young adults to ads that encourage people to buy health insurance through the Affordable Care Act.They went with skin – lots of it. “He may not be naked. He could be wearing a Speedo,” Wendy Wolf said with a laugh, referring to an ad showing a young man who is otherwise unclothed but covered by a strategically placed laptop computer. “Dude, it’s time to get covered,” proclaims the ad for www.enroll207.com that ran this week in the Portland Phoenix alternative newspaper. Washington--One in five people who signed up for health insurance under the new health care law failed to pay their premiums on time and therefore did not receive coverage in January, insurance companies and industry experts say. Paying the first month’s premium is the final step in completing an enrollment. Under federal rules, people must pay the initial premium to have coverage take effect. In view of the chaotic debut of the federal marketplace and many state exchanges, the White House urged insurers to give people more time, and many agreed to do so. But, insurers said, some people missed

DENVER — Helping the terminally ill end their lives, condemned for decades as immoral, is gaining traction. Banned everywhere but Oregon until 2008, it is now legal in five states. Its advocates, who have learned to shun the term “assisted suicide,” believe that as baby boomers watch frail parents suffer, support for what they call the “aid in dying” movement will grow further. In January, the New Mexico Supreme Court authorized doctors to provide lethal prescriptions and declared a constitutional right for “a competent, terminally ill patient to choose aid in dying.” Last May, the Vermont Legislature passed a law

Washinton--A Congressional Budget Office analysis released Tuesday predicted that the Affordable Care Act would shrink the work force by the equivalent of more than two million full-time positions and recharged the political debate over the health care law, providing Republican opponents fresh lines of attack and putting Democrats on the defensive. The nonpartisan budget office’s analysis, part of a regular update to its budget projections, was far more complicated than the Republican attack lines it generated. Congressional Republican leaders called the findings “devastating,” “terrible” and proof that the health care law was a job killer. (Snip)Senator Joe Manchin III, Democrat

Secretary of State John Kerry must be really desperate to win the Nobel Peace Prize. So much so, he seems willing to continually force the state of Israel into untenable positions that put its security at risk. On this very topic last month, Israeli Minister of Defense Moshe Yaalon said Kerry "came here very determined and operates based upon an unfathomable obsession and Messianic feeling . . . "Throughout the recent months, there is no negotiation between us and the Palestinians, but rather between us and the Americans. The only thing that can ´save´ us is that John Kerry will

War On Banks: Attorney General Eric Holder has opened up a new front against car lenders and has forged an alliance with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to frame them for racism, too. We don´t use the term "frame" capriciously, certainly not like Holder uses the charge of racism. His department and the president´s new consumer credit watchdog agency, CFPB, have announced a new settlement with Ally Bank for nearly $100 million. It´s the largest fair lending deal against the auto industry and the third-largest ever to resolve charges of lending discrimination. Throw in four new mortgage-lender settlements over equally

After presenting at the Academy Awards this year, Kim Novak didn’t want to leave her house. The Hitchcock screen siren, 81, was too humiliated to venture from her home near the Rogue River in Oregon. She read the cruel posts and Internet snark about her appearance, and it was just too much. “It got to me like it gets kids and teenagers,” she told the Associated Press. The “Vertigo” actress, considered one of the great beauties in her day, posted a note on her Facebook wall Thursday, acknowledging that she’d gotten fat injections in her face and addressing her halted

The White House is going to war with another fox — and this time, it’s personal. The Wall Street Journal reports that a red fox has been causing chaos around the White House, tripping security alarms, digging up Michelle’s garden and distracting the president from his duties. The Secret Service won’t give any details about how often the fox trips the White House’s obviously sophisticated security alarms, but rest assured, officials say, they’re watching. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. It’s the stuff of Westerns: a showdown on the desert plains, the big bad government against an underdog farmer. Though the story has only grabbed national headlines in the past several days, rancher Cliven Bundy has illegally grazed cattle on the Nevada land surrounding his farm for over 20 years. He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. A group of seven multiracial Washington and Lee University (W&L) students are demanding the school remove all Confederate flags from campus and "acknowledge" General Robert E. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

For Hillary Clinton, having her own baby grandchild to kiss on the campaign trail, could be one of the biggest boosts to her possible presidential election campaign. Although the former Secretary of State and First Lady has not said if she will run in 2016, the arrival of her first grandchild will soften her image, analysts have said. While Chelsea only revealed her pregnancy on Thursday, supporters of her mother have already started cooing over a possible baby in the White House. With the Clintons having a near-royal status in the U.S., the announcement of a new arrival due this fall has sent

GREENSBORO, Ga. — Golf holes the size of pizzas. Soccer balls on the back nine. A mulligan on every hole. These are some of the measures — some would say gimmicks — that golf courses across the country have experimented with to stop people from quitting the game. Golf has always reveled in its standards and rich tradition. But increasingly a victim of its own image and hidebound ways, golf has lost five million players in the last decade, according to the National Golf Foundation, with 20 percent of the existing 25 million golfers apt to quit in the next few years. People under 35 have especially spurned the game, saying it takes too
