The head of the Internal Revenue Service’s tax-exempt organizations office, faced with allegations of improper targeting of conservative groups, declared Wednesday that she has done nothing wrong but declined to answer questions, invoking her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. Lois G. Lerner told the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform in an opening statement that members of the panel have already accused her of providing false information to Congress. “I have not done anything wrong,” she said. “I have not broken any laws. I have not violated any IRS regulations. And I have not provided false information

I once got a camera traffic ticket in the mail with a picture of someone else driving my car. I sought legal council who advised me to plead innocent based on lack of evidence, but not to testify. Lawyer advised that if I answered any questions from the judge or made any denials, I would then give up my 5th amendment right to remain silent. Then I would have to say who was driving the car.

I agree with #1. There times when it would be appropriate. Invoking the 5th should only be allowed up to a certain level. These assclowns are way above that point. With high office comes the responsibility to answer all of the questions... truthfully . There may be a steep learning curve with that last part.

The Bill of Rights are rights of citizens.
They are protections of citizens.

They are not government protections.
The government has powers, not rights.

The right hand of the government
may not refuse to co-operate
with the left hand of the government.

If Ms. Lerner was being interrogated about,
just for instance, a shoplifting charge,
something unrelated to her official capacity
as a government employee then she who be able to hide behind the Fifth.

But a government agent in official capacity,
acting under the color of authority has no ability to hide behind the Fifth.

It is a CITIZEN protection FROM a government agent in official capacity,
acting under the color of authority.

She can be forced to testify under oath if the House Committee gives her full immunity.
If she then refuses to testify, she can be jailed for contempt of Congress.
If she testifies falsely, her immunity is voided, and she can be charged with any crimes, as well as perjury.

This is the hardball that the House needs to play.

If I understood his mumbling comment, I believe even Elijah Cummings was on the sie of Issa on this matter.
Now call the 6 identified IRS agents who were handling the 51(C)4 applications. Have them tell us if they were following a written procedure, and have them tell us who gave them the written procedure. Then call that person to testify.

Finally, if Lois Lerner is the person who is supposed to head up the IRS Obamacare enforcement, stop her.

Three cheers for Tray Gowdy; Rep from the Great State of South Carolina.

This man is a pit bull, he needs to be applauded for bringing up the point that Lerner has already testified before the board and has waived her right to the Fifth Amendment.

Grant Immunity if his theory is not proven, order her held in contempt, place her in jail, and prosecute her to the fullest extent of the law.

Then Impeach Barry and lay all of this, Benghazi, Fast and Furious, Wire Tapping and more at his feet. Bring in Holder and do the same with him.

Comments after the article are unbeleivable! It is so obvious that the so-called "liberals" don´t give a fig about liberty. What they crave is total control of the levers of power and thus of the citizenry. They perfectly cool with massive abuses of government power because they plan to be the ones abusing it. Forever. Me and my Tea party friends disagree. Soon it will be Liberty or Death time, and I plan on living a long life...

On Tuesday morning, a plane owned in trust by the Bank of Utah showed up in a very visible area of the Mehrabad Airport in Tehran, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran. What was it doing there exactly? Nobody knows, reports The New York Times. Under President Barack Obama, the United States has eased some of the long-standing punitive economic sanctions against Iran. Still, very little American — or European — economic activity is allowed inside the religious theocracy. The Bank of Utah is certainly no Wells Fargo. The Ogden-based community bank has all of 13 branches including

MOKPO/JINDO, South Korea — Divers searching for survivors of a capsized South Korean ferry saw three bodies floating through a window of a passenger cabin on Saturday but were unable to retrieve them, the coastguard said, hours after the ship´s captain was arrested. The ferry, carrying 476 passengers, many of them schoolchildren, and crew, capsized on Wednesday on a journey from the port of Incheon to the southern holiday island of Jeju. Some 174 people have been rescued and hopes were fading for those still missing. The divers saw the bodies in a submerged cabin where many of the children

With the Chicago weather finally getting a little nicer, Chris Anderssen wanted to grill some burgers outside for a group of family and friends. When she got to the meat aisle at her local Jewel-Osco supermarket, a case of sticker shock made her change the menu: extra lean ground beef was $4.99 a pound. "Five adults, four teenagers, that´s a lot of hamburger to buy," said Anderssen, a 42-year-old mother of two who works as an office manager. She bought chicken instead for $2.99 a pound. Retail beef and pork prices reached all-time highs last month, according to Bill Hahn, agricultural

TOPEKA, Kan. — If expanding the guest list to include Michelle Obama at graduation for high school students in the Kansas capital city means fewer seats for friends and family, some students and their parents would prefer the first lady not attend. A furor over what the Topeka school district considers an honor has erupted after plans were announced for Obama to address a combined graduation ceremony for five area high schools next month an 8,000-seat arena. Some advice for Democratic candidates from consultants: Don´t use the word "recovery" in your speeches. Associated Press: Election-year memo to Democratic candidates: Don´t talk about the economic recovery. It´s a political loser. So say Democratic strategists in a blunt declaration that such talk skips over "how much trouble people are in, and doesn´t convince them that policymakers really understand or are even focusing on the problems they continue to face." In addition, Stan Greenberg, James Carville and others wrote that in head-to-head polling tests the mere mention of the word "recovery" is trumped by a Republican assertion

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

First, the good news: We are close enough to the end of the Obama presidency for his crowd to talk about a presidential library. Now, the bad news: Obama´s retirement is still 1,008 days distant. Plenty of time though to round up the dough to build it somewhere. Figure they need Solyndra-style money, at least $500 million. The last two presidents – Bill Clinton and George W. Bush -- built their legacy edifices totally with private money. [Snip] However, Obama supporters have a different take. They think taxpayers should put up $100 million in public money for Obama´s library.
