After all the controversy – it was too much, and too expensive; it would be marred by protests – this morning’s funeral for Lady Thatcher in London was a splendid and memorable affair, which did her memory, and her country, proud. It was a moving, dignified and pitch-perfect occasion: unmistakably British, and a fitting send-off for the country’s greatest post-war prime minister. Big Ben fell silent – for the first time since the funeral of wartime leader Winston Churchill – and tens of thousands of admirers lined the streets to applaud Lady Thatcher’s coffin
The article reports that the granddaughter has a Texas accent. This Texan believes that if Baroness Thatcher would have chosen a place in America for her granddaughter, it would have been Texas. The spirits are similar. About 20 years hence, a Governor Thatcher might be nice.
Obama is an anti-colonialist, even though colonialism has helped about every country that started as a colony, especially of Great Britain.
So, its no wonder Obama, Mooch, and the Moochettes didn´t take a vacation to Europe disguised as a trip to The Iron Lady´s funeral. They weren´t missed, and the proceedings were the better for them not being there!
I thought it was a beautiful service and it only would have been marred by the presence of that piece of ´human´ excrement currently defiling the White House.
As to the author´s reference to Amanda Thatcher´s soft Texas accent, I listened to her reading twice...Maybe my ears are going bad but what I heard was a generally neutral American accent and the young lady was being very precise in her enunciations. I thought she did an admirable job and handled herself very well.
A beautiful, dignified, precisely punctual funeral as only the British can produce. It was wonderful that neither the Obama or Biden families were there. Vice-President and Mrs. Cheney were there along with other great Americans and their presence represented America perfectly with respect, honor, and grace.
How wonderful that The Lady was allowed the dignity of a funeral sans The "Grifters"! We apologize to Britain but ask them to understand that we are suffering from our stupidity as a people! But we were well represented! RIP to a Great Leader! Where are they today?
The didn´t go because they couldn´t figure out how to make it all about them. If they´re not the centers of attention, they´re not participating. But you´d have thunk that they´d at least take advantage of another vacation opportunity.
Did you hear the bamster shaming Americans because WE didn´t pass HIS gun law? It´s called the Constitution -- loser.....
He sounded like a wounded child who didn´t get HIS way... I expected him to stamp his feet and shake his finger at US. A lot like bubba clinton when he raised his bony finger and lied through his teeth, -- "I´m gonna say this one more time -- I did not have sex with that woman".... Yeah -- right -- you loser.....
What a joke!!
Conversely -- the Iron Lady got exactly what she deserved, praise and honor and a glorious send/off. Even the Queen and Prince Philip came to send her off.
So -- OUR loser snubbed the "Lady". No one cares....
How nice to read an article about the great Lady Thatcher without hearing how "divisive" she was supposed to be. All I cared about hearing was the facts and apparently the haters were few and far between. RIP, Great Lady. We will miss you forever.
London´s ´gain´ (not having the Obamas there) is our ´loss´ (having to deal with them here). Barack and Michelle aren´t even in the same class with those who honored Thatcher. These two just ´don´t get it´, or ´don´t care´.
In the back of my mind i sort of enjoy the thought that Obama received an "un-invite" from the Thatcher family. The Baroness would not want that Communistt anywhere near her. But she would have had more class than to express it the way I did.
The truth is, the people handling The Iron Lady´s funeral wouldn´t allow tele-prompters, hoop shooting, practice putting greens and ´shout outs´ during the ceremony.
If the facts were truly published, Zero and the Mooch feel completely inadequate when surrounded by talented and classy people (which doesn´t include the Hollywood crowd who are gutter people). Therefore they decided to vote not-present.
Too bad he and Michelle had to show up in Boston for the memorial service to the Marathon Terrorist Attack victims. On top of this tragedy, the city now has to suffer the effects of their majesties´ presence on the city just so they can plaster their odious mugs on TV.
What´s pity that Baroness that her didn´t have the opportunity to shred the Ø in one of her marvelous sessions before the House of Commons. She would have intellectually destroyed him, politically spanked him and sent him to be without supper. As for the Mooch, one steely glance from her ladyship would have sent the Mooch mewling to a corner , whimpering about the mean old racist white b*tch or something stupid like that.
FTA: In what was seen as a snub both to Lady Thatcher’s memory and Britain’s present Conservative-led government, President Obama declined to send a high-level representative.
Thankfully, the mean pettiness of the current POTUS served as a blessing for all who love and revere the memory of this wonderful lady and all that her good life meant to the world. Remember what Joseph said to his brothers in Genesis 50:20? ("As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good...")
Their presence would have marred a beautiful tribute. Those of us Americans who love the Brits and Great Britain were there in spirit. We were represented much better by those Americans who were mentioned as being there to honor her memory.
I very much enjoyed watching the funeral live in the wee hours of Wednesday morning. Of course, I was saddened by the death of Mrs. Thatcher. Yet the funeral bolstered my faith in Jesus Christ and the promise that the dead in Christ shall rise on the Last Day.
This hymn text, sung during the service, has been running through my head non-stop since the funeral. It is a great Anglican/Episcopal hymn we sing from time to time in my parish:
He who would valiant be ´gainst all disaster, Let him in constancy follow the Master. There´s no discouragement shall make him once relent His first avowed intent to be a pilgrim.
Another line: "No foes shall stay his might; though he with giants fight, He will make good his right to be a pilgrim."
Zippy should have gone to the Thatcher Funeral. He would have seen how a real approving, appropriate send off is done. You have to know that History will treat him badly, In spite of the Liberal re-write of history. His hearse will be a flat bed truck with a Dempsey Dumpster for a coffin.
One of Congress‘ staunchest critics of Obamacare released a report Monday that cheers on legal challenges to the overhaul and says the White House overstepped its authority by delaying aspects of the law. Sen. Ted Cruz, Texas Republican who helped engineer a lengthy government funding stalemate earlier this year in a bid to block money for the new health care law, said many aspects of the Affordable Care Act are “constitutionally or statutorily suspect” and that the entire law should be repealed. While a repeal is unlikely so long as Democrats control the Senate and White House, Mr. Cruz said
The nation’s new health-care law says insurers can’t turn anyone away, even people who are sick. But some companies, patient advocates say, have found a way to discourage the chronically ill from enrolling in their plans: offer drug coverage too skimpy for those with expensive conditions. Some plans sold on the online insurance exchanges, for instance, don’t cover key medications for HIV, or they require patients to pay as much as 50 percent of the cost per prescription in co-insurance — sometimes more than $1,000 a month. “The fear is that they are putting discriminatory plan designs into place to
There’s nothing like a communal flight with the current president of the United States and his predecessor to make the press miss the days of a communicative commander in chief. George W. and Laura Bush joined the Obamas on Air Force One en route to Johannesburg, South Africa, for a Nelson Mandela memorial service. Hillary Clinton was also on board, with Bill and Chelsea coming to the service from a Clinton Global Initiative event in Rio. The Obamas have stayed in their cabin for the flight, according to the White House pool report from the refueling stop in Senegal, while
The raft of stories over the last week, the latest being today’s piece in Business Insider, about Democratic Party infighting has nicely illustrated something conservatives have known for a while. Complaints over the last few years about the GOP being pulled to the right by conservatives were not about liberals’ desire to meet in the middle and compromise, no matter how much they might decry the supposed extremist drift of the right. What they wanted was their very own Tea Party. It was the same with Occupy Wall Street: the pseudoanarchist gatherings were far more violent than Tea Party protests
The federal government announced today that it has sold the last of its General Motors stock, about 31.1 million shares or 2 percent of the company, ultimately losing about $10.5 billion on the original investment. The government once owned 912 million shares, or 60.8 percent of GM, which it received in return for the $49.5 billion bailout given to the auto manufacturer during the financial crisis of 2008–09. GM’s stock rose about 1.8 percent, or 73 cents, on the news today. GM’s North American president, Mark Reuss, said that he expects GM sales, especially of pickup trucks, to rise once
House and Senate negotiators were putting the finishing touches Sunday on what would be the first successful budget accord since 2011, when the battle over a soaring national debt first paralyzed Washington. The deal expected to be sealed this week on Capitol Hill would not significantly reduce the debt, now $17.3 trillion and rising. It would not close corporate tax loopholes or reform expensive health-care and retirement programs. It would not even fully replace sharp spending cuts known as the sequester, the negotiators’ primary target. After more than two years of constant crisis, the emerging agreement amounts to little more
The sequester, no matter how imperfect a policy, is arguably the only victory for fiscal conservatives in a very long time. Their victory is also president Obama’s biggest defeat (outside of the self-inflicted disastrous Obamacare rollout). It is also another opportunity to remind the American people that the alarmist predictions that we were all subjected to about the devastating impact sequestration would have on our economy didn’t materialize. Yet, in a new move, Republicans are once again considering caving to Democrats and getting rid of the spending cuts. This morning’s Wall Street Journal has the following. Still, officials close to
The question all week long was this: Who are you going to believe, an illegal alien or the president of the United States of America? Obviously, if it’s a president who once went by an alias, Barry Soetoro, you go with Uncle Omar, 100 percent, no questions asked. And so it was that the White House finally admitted to another, uh, misstatement — despite previous denials, Barack/Barry did sleep on his beloved Uncle Omar’s couch in Cambridge when he first moved here to attend Harvard Law School (speaking of which, we’re still waiting to see the president’s grades and his LSAT scores). But the
How do you get your arms around the catastrophe known as Obamacare? Is it even possible? At this point, I’m not sure it is. The list of individual disasters which threaten to ruin one-sixth of the U.S. economy and what has been, up until now, the best healthcare system in the world is exhaustive, and exhausting. The examples I will identify here barely scratch the surface. First but by no means foremost, we have the supposedly new and improved HealthCare.gov. Except it’s not, even the visible part. Stories still abound of people still failing to get in or to get through the enrollment
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
A veteran Washington adviser who has worked for four Presidents on both sides of the political aisle said that the stunning Government Accountability Report report that found President Barack Obama has not had a one-on-one meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius since the passage of Obamacare over three years ago is an indictment of the entire White House operation and shows that the Obama administration has bordered on "malfeasance." "I have no doubt the White House is right, that Secretary Sebelius was in several group meetings with the president about health care," Gergen caveated, "but the whole
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
