Gun vote shows gulf
between Washington, country

Washington Post, by Dan Balz

Original Article

If there was ever a moment that symbolized the difference between the power of public opinion and the strength of a concerted minority, it came Wednesday when the Senate defeated a bipartisan measure to expand background checks on gun purchases. By the time the vote took place, the outcome was expected. Nonetheless, the result was stunning, as was made clear by the angry reaction of President Obama, who had invested so much capital on getting gun legislation passed after the shootings in Newtown, Conn., only to see those efforts crushed

Comments:
There was no popular support for this bill. The vote proved it.

What popular support? Didn´t we see poll data that the American people did NOT support the bill?

Obama didn´t get his way so he´s stomping his feet and calling people names.

And this incompetent dipstick has been elected president.
Twice.

Obama said that 90% of the population supported the gun control legislation. Would he lie to try to get his way? Hmmm let me think about that.

Let´s play "Who´s the Liar".

Obama said 90% of the public wanted the legislation passed. If so, please explain why almost half the Senate totally defied their constituents and voted down the bill, including several Democrats. If true, that would have been political suicide. It was not true. Obama, as usual to suit his own purposes, lied.

The Constitution is the contract under which We the People set up a government. It specifies what the government can and cannot do.

One of the things the government cannot do is infringe upon the right of the people to keep and bear arms.

Background checks do not infringe ONLY if the government does not stop a person from obtaining a firearm. As soon as the response prevents a purchase, the check is unconstitutional.

They flat do not have the authority!

Dale,

I think you´re assuming facts not in evidence ol´ buddy. If the public was on board, then why did so many Democrats vote against it? Did they just want to be bipartisan or were they afraid of losing their seats?
You guys at the Post really need to clean the little window in your navels more often so you can see what is going on.

The gulf is between Zippy and We the People.

I am betting 90% did not call their senators to support gun control. More made up numbers.

The gulf between the Administration and the rest of the Left on one side, and the law, Constitution, and the Founders on the other, is pretty troubling.

#2: Are you assuming the elections Obama "won" were legitimate?

As I watched the angry look on the president´s face and heard his angry words , I realized what a small person he actually is. The angrier he got the bigger the smile grew on my face. Should be fireworks to come! He may overstep his authority again. I remember the old movies of Adolf Hitler ranting in his speeches angrily. Same look on his face as our president.

The totalitarian impulse that beats so strong in this would be dictator´s black heart has run up against our red line that says we won´t be ruled by this little fraud/freak.

I would love to watch his head explode like a pressure cooker when he realizes his turn at tyranny has been foiled.

His conniving, "this country, me," megalomaniacal mental disease is getting expressed quite freely now. Seriously, now, Obama, HAVE that massive stroke we are all counting on to shorten the time we have to look at you.

The gun issue is far from dead, desite this vote. MSNBC is already blamimg the NRA for the marathon bombing. You could see a bomb analysis say that some form of bullet powder was involved,so there needs to be a stricter ban on ammo.

I have a bad feeling that this bombing is going to evolve into a Benghazi type cover up story.Somebody shut this whole thing down yesterday and the orders had to come from a top dog.

I think they know who did this and it ain´t good news for Obama.

I saw the headline and first paragraph, and I thought, "Wow! The Post gets it!"

Obama´s anti-gun agenda is supported by "a concerted minority" in Washington, and associated with Washington, while "the country" or "public opinion" has a contrary view, as expressed in the vote in the senate.

Social Security stops trying

Washington Post, by Marc Fisher    Original Article

The Social Security Administration announced Monday that it will immediately cease efforts to collect on taxpayers’ debts to the government that are more than 10 years old. The action comes after The Washington Post reported that the government was seizing state and federal tax refunds that were on their way to about 400,000 Americans who had relatives who owed money to Social Security. In many cases, the people whose refunds were intercepted had never heard of any debt, and the debts dated as far back as the middle of the past century. “I have directed an immediate halt to further

Despite promises to the contrary, it appears that State Senator Wendy Davis (D-Fort Worth) voted on bills that affect her clients and favorably impact the bottom line of her law firm. “I have never done anything in a way that represents a conflict in my voting and something that would benefit me personally,” she said in an interview, but state records seem to tell a different story. The Dallas Morning News´ Senior Political Writer Wayne Slater (DMN) reported that Davis supported legislation governing a toll road project. That would be all well and good except for the fact that the

Democrats have had a recurring problem in special elections this year: Their voters aren’t turning out. If a weak economy and continued Obamacare problems persist, the November elections could be a disaster for Democrats. Last week, Democrats lost two special elections they weren’t planning to. Arlington, Va., is a classic wealthy ObamaTown, filled with government workers and limousine liberals. Mitt Romney won only 29 percent of the vote in 2012. But last Tuesday, Democrats lost their first election for the five-member Arlington County Board in 15 years when John Vihstadt, a Republican running as an independent, won a vacancy on

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said little as federal agents seized and then released cattle last week from the Bundy ranch, but there is little doubt that the highly charged episode was threatening to become a political headache for the Nevada Democrat. The Bureau of Land Management is headed by former longtime Reid aide Neil Kornze, who was confirmed by the Senate as BLM director on Tuesday, just as federal authorities descended on the cattle ranch outside Mesquite, Nev. Mr. Kornze issued a statement Saturday saying that the bureau would return the cattle and withdraw its agents from the ranch

On the defensive about their prospects in the midterm elections this fall, congressional Democrats have spent all of April savaging the Republican budget proposal, decrying the Koch brothers and championing a series of bills meant to ingratiate themselves to struggling middle-class voters. In promoting legislation that would extend unemployment benefits, increase the minimum wage and promote equal pay for women, the Democrats have declared themselves the party that will ensure a “fair shot” for all. Republicans, they insist, are the party of special interests. It has been a classic Washington messaging campaign for these partisan

On a trip to Moscow early in her tenure as secretary of state, Hillary Rodham Clinton played the role of international saleswoman, pressing Russian government officials to sign a multibillion-dollar deal to buy dozens of aircraft from Boeing. A month later, Clinton was in China, where she jubilantly announced that the aerospace giant would be writing a generous check to help resuscitate floundering U.S. efforts to host a pavilion at the upcoming World’s Fair. Boeing, she said, “has just agreed to double its contribution to $2 million.” Clinton did not point out that, to secure the donation, the State Department

I am of course referring to the Bundy Ranch siege. This was a dispute between a Nevada ranching family with rights to the land in question for 140 years and the BLM (Bureayu of Land Management). The government claims they haven’t paid grazing fees for 20 years. The result was a government assault on the ranch- including snipers with assault rifles, SUV’s, helicopters, airplanes and over 200 heavily armed troops. No

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

People love that Scottish brogue so much, they don’t mind that he has it when he plays Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, an immortal Spaniard in Highlander. The guy even won an Oscar for playing an Irish cop with a Scottish accent. Talk about sexist double standards: Meryl Streep has to master foreign dialects to get her golden statuettes. Connery just has to show up on time. In economics you devalue a currency by printing too much of it. In film you

Toddlers show racial bias when picking playmates, a study reveals. They also take account of how fairly others behave. Researchers tested the reaction of white 15-month-olds as toys were distributed. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. And the babies are more likely to help those who share the same ethnicity, which is known as
