Tuesday afternoon, Fox News’ The Five took on Dr. Ben Carson‘s controversial interview with conservative radio host Mark Levin, in which Carson called his “white liberal” detractors “the most racist people there are.” Those words in particular got under host Bob Beckel‘s skin and he let Carson know just how “infuriating” he found them. Recalling his “liberal” father, who he said was arrested 57 times during the Civil Rights Movement, Beckel attacked Carson for minimizing the left’s fight for racial equality. “For Dr. Carson to make that kind of statement shows he doesn’t know what he’s
Comments: I post this not because of Beckel, who behaved as usual hatefully and rudely that was completely unnecessary. Dana Perino is the one who surprised me. She has the audacity to say Dr. Carson has “burned through so much of his credibility by appearing so often on cable news and talk radio." Really?? I thoroughly enjoy hearing what he has to say. Who made her the arbiter of who decides what he says or does?
´´You Are Not That Important?!!´´ ...No, Beckel...
Need you be reminded, Dr. Carson is just the best pediatric BRAIN SURGEON in the country, & probably in the entire world. He is VERY important, as his entire accomplished, compassionate, and faithful life testifies.
Anyone, and I do wish to emphasis Anyone who questions the logic of a conservative going to the right wing media literally needs to have their head examined. To even contemplate such a thing strikes me as the absolute height of stupidity. The instant the so called wisest among us start to embrace conservatives the sooner we can start winning some elections. The choice is yours. Rush, Hannity, Beck, Levin, all of their jobs would disappear tomorrow if the media was remotely fair.
P.S. Bob Beckel is a good representative of the Democrat party.
Bob Beckel infuriated me enough to stop watching FOX News. He has poisoned that network. It seemed like almost every time I turned on FOX News there was the loudmouth Bob Beckel on some kind of Liberal diatribe. Since I gave up FOX News there was no reason to watch TV anymore so I dropped Time Warner cable and don´t bother to watch local TV. Mostly garbage and wall-to-wall commercials on TV both local and cable.
Dr. Carson needs to fall back on some of his other talks. I saw him years ago talk about all the inventions black Americans were responsible for. It was a great talk. He´s given great talks on education and affirmative action. He demonstrates how blacks excel when they´re held to high standards and fail when standards are lowered. He has to avoid letting cable news pidgeon hole him. Sean Hannity is not his friend. He has a great message, but he has to control it.
What you are witnessing is the application of Alinsky´s rules for radicals, #13...on steroids.
RULE 13: “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.
The problem with this tactic used against Carson is it leaves Libs with a huge hole in their argument/attack. That hole is their own rule #12
RULE 12: “The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.” Never let the enemy score points because you’re caught without a solution to the problem.
By attacking Dr. Carson they leave no solution to his goodness and truth...the Libs are left as hateful and spiteful and nasty as they always have been but now it is extremely obvious the Libs are simply trying to destroy a good man that simply disagrees with them.
I’m not a doctor nor do I play one on TV. However, inasmuch as Bob Beckel has admittedly ingested all sorts of liquid and solid substances, some of them illegal, over several years, I wonder if any of them have residually affected his judgment and capacity to reason. It’s obvious he possesses a short fuse. It doesn’t seem to take much to get him riled up.
Two things occur to me. If Dr. Carson is a strong voice for conservatism/Constitutionalism then why would we want to limit his exposure? Hasn´t one of the major complaints of the Republican party been that the conservative message is not getting out? If, on the other hand, Dr. Carson is a time bomb, then the more exposure he gets, the sooner we will see if there is a problem.
Or perhaps the real concern is that Dr. Carson - like some others who have been accused of being in the spotlight too much - has not yet been approved to speak and he may say some things that cause the Republican leadership as much discomfort as as he did Obama, at the Prayer Breakfast.
NEWS FLASH for Beckel...and Perino: "You Are Not That Important."
Dr. Carson is nobody´s puppet. Sure, the WSJ prematurely elevated him to presidential contender, and a lot of smart (and frankly, desperate) people hopped on that nonexistent bandwagon.
Does he expect God to "grab him by the collar?" He´s a believer so he´ll accept ANY calling from God.
Has he "burned through" any of his credibility? Au contraire, every time he opens his mouth he enhances it.
The presidential handicapper, Perino, may be correct in her conditional logic statement: "If he is interested in running in 2016, he would be better off laying low for a while." But let´s examine an alternative explanation for his limelight-seeking...
Dr. Ben Carson is in it for the money.
[Think about why you were so shocked by that statement.] I´ll not go into any of the reasons that that was a silly, indefensible reaction.
I will say only this: I would rather give my money to Dr. Carson than boatloads of others. For, aside from living well, which he has earned, the man writes books telling young people why they should love this country...and (with his wife) is responsible for the Carson Scholars Fund ("Discovering Promise...Rewarding Excellence")
I saw Dr. Carson and heard his statement in regards to certain types of relationships practiced by some members of American society. He is a Doctor and speaks about things frankly and openly. No euphemisms or beating around the bush. His point was that marriage is between a male and a female, It´s been that way for thousands of years and he disagrees with any effort to change that fact. I understand his point and so does anyone else who cares to honestly critique his words. Beckel doesn´t appear to be a critical thinker so I dismiss his opinion out of hand. As for Perino...she is a mixed bag and i usually ignore a lot of what she has to say. Moderates cannot be relyed on. They´re too busy taking the high ground or trying to go-along to get-along. I watch the Five and the best they have to offer is Andrea Tantaros. I can pretty much know where she will come out on any given topic. She is a conservative with intelligence, commonsense and spunk. BTW, Obama´s in-your-face 360 over-exposure seems to have worked for him.
I first muted Beckel´s drivel ...then I changed the channel ... then I switched back and listened to Dana and the others for a minute or so ... then I gave up completely when Beckel chimed in again and went to local news.
This guy adds nothing to Fox´s fair and balanced approach to news and commentary.
He´s a monotone nattering nabob of negativity; in other words, a supremely boring member of the effete corps of impudent liberal snobs.
I laugh at how brilliant and important the Dana Perinos and Bob Beckels think they are. I hardly think Dana is concerned that Dr. Carson might hurt his electoral chances. GOP moderates are happy to supply the banana peel to help discredit any rising star conservative without his "approved by RNC" stamp. I doubt Dr. Carson is running for office. He doesn´t have to - look at the press his every speech now generates. FANTASTIC move, Dr. Carson for going on Mark´s show. Dr. Carson recognizes another brave brilliant conservative when he sees one.
Just totally done with Fox. Can´t stand Beckel. He´s mean and nasty. His treatment of Watters on Monday on the Five was disgraceful. Rude and completely uncalled for. Dana Perino just turned into another one of the bunch. She´s so namby pamby...she drives me crazy. Cute dog though.
Me and Beckel are about the same age. I have heard him physically threaten Conservatives in the past. I would love to get in the same room with the Proud Socialist Bob and climb up one side and down the other. He is a punk and a bully. He´s still trying to act like the 1960´s Liberals are fighting the good fight against racism, when today they are the worst Racist around, on that point Dr. Carson has nailed them and Blubbery Bob knows it.
Excellent post #28. Well said. Beckel leaves me cold and I mute him. I just can´t stomach him and his unintelligible speech and his bragging about his ugly past. As far as Dana Perino, I think she is a closet democrat and always has been. Tries to play both sides and it´s tiring. At least Greg Gutfeld tells it like it is!!! Dumb show anyway.
Leftists need victims to champion and advocate for in order to feel good about themselves. They tend to react violently when attempts are made to take their victims away from them. This is because much of the Leftist´s identity and self-image and sense of worth and power is wrapped up in being a hero akin to a medieval knight in a quest against evil and to defend and comfort victims. If there were no victims, Leftists would have to invent them. As a matter of fact, that is exactly what Leftism does: it excels in the social construction and perpetuation of victims as human fuel and fodder for Leftist egos. There is something vampiric and dreadful about this parasitism masquerading as piety. This narcissistic, sanctimonious but deeply malicious quality of Leftism is intuitively sensed by most normal people and is strongly aversive - but the most incorrigible Leftists, of whom we have lately seen far more than is good for us, are genuinely oblivious to themselves and their own complex and by no means altogether admirable motives. Ironically, like Bob Beckel, they perceive themselves as victims when their ideology and their claims to holiness are challenged. It is, and always has been, much more about them than about the alleged objects of their benevolence.
Yes to #28. As for Dana, she did not like Dr. Carson´s prayer breakfast speech either. Thought he was disrespectful to the preezy. Dana is a Bushite (loyalty is an admirable trait) and will denigrate anyone who appears to be in the way of Bush family ambitions, IMO.
Drop dead Beckel. The liberals were NEVER in the forefront of human rights issues. They loved segregations, the REPUBLICANS were at the forefront of civil rights. Beckel has lived in the bottom of a booze bottle and most coherent thoughts involved bedding prostitutes.
Hey Bob, I think Carson was speaking to you...only you won´t listen...liberals do not listen to anyone.... Dana & Bob are the reason I don´t watch this silly show. Dana makes me sicker than Bob. She couldn´t make a decision if her life depended on it. I think the word is spineless. She thinks because she worked in WH, she´s the boss of the show.

I was a liberal in the 1960´s. But then I graduated from college, got a job, grew up, and became a conservative. Beckel has never experienced a similar maturity. He is still a child and I couldn´t care less about his father´s political affiliations. Fox news is going downhill and fat kids like Beckel are causing it to happen faster.
Robert, it was not the left that pushed through the civil rights laws of the mid 1960´s, as the current democratic narrative of the past would have you believe. It was the Republicans in congress at the time that accomplsihed that task. Remember Abraham Lincoln was a Republican.
Dana Perino said Dr. Carson has “burned through so much of his credibility by appearing so often on cable news and talk radio." Huh? What´s this all about, Dana? Did you hit your pointed little head on a door knob, or was this just another of your uninformed attempts at trying to look smart? For a teensy little intellect like Dana to say Dr. Carson has "burned through much of his credibility" is nothing short of mind boggling. And it betrays how little she knows about this remarkable physician, man, humanitarian, intellect, writer, speaker, truth-teller, et al. Dr. Carson is a giant in a world crying for people like him.
The Five has grown even more rapidly than I thought it would into just one more Fox show that´s a complete waste of time. Except for Brett Baier, it´s the only Fox program I regularly tune in and Brett doesn´t always last through until the panel—if Juan Williams, Kirsten Powers, and a couple others are on I hit the remote.
It isn´t surprising that Bob Beckel makes a nasty demonRAT fool of himself whenever he opens his mouth, but it has become embarrassing to hear other members of the five working so hard to sell him as just a nice guy with a different opinion who they really love and adore.
Note to Dana Perino: You lost me forever with your comments about Dr. Carson. Not only do you shame yourself, you opened a door that causes one to challenge whether or not you bother to do even a cursory amount of research before shooting your mouth off.
President Obama has recalled John Podesta to work at the White House as a “counselor.” Podesta is the Clinton hand who founded the far-left Center for American Progress (home of the clownish Think Progress blog). Podesta’s appointment, which needs no congressional approval, comes at a time when Obama is already making moves to do without Congress. He has used executive actions to re-write Obamacare, and to recalibrate immigration law, both in ways that just happen to favor either himself or the Democrats. The New York Times reports that Podesta will work on executive actions when he returns to the White
On CNN’s “Reliable Sources” on Sunday, new host Brian Stelter turned to President Obama the press critic. At the end of his cakewalk “Hardball” interview last week, Obama called out the media for being divisive. “The American people are good and they are decent. And yes, we get very divided partly because our politics and our media specifically tries to divide them and splinter them.” Stelter asked a decent question about whether that was an odd statement to make on divisive MSNBC. NPR television critic Eric Deggans shot that down, insisting MSNBC was a “great place” to attack cable news
Former CIA Director Leon Panetta revealed classified information at a 2011 awards ceremony attended by Zero Dark Thirty filmmaker Mark Boal, according to documents obtained by the conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch. The CIA allowed Boal, the screenwriter of Zero Dark Thirty, to attend a June 24, 2011 award ceremony celebrating the successful raid on Osama bin Laden’s hideout in Abbottabad, Pakistan that May. A transcript of Panetta’s speech that night obtained by Judicial Watch is labeled “top secret,” and significant portions of it are redacted. At the conclusion his speech, Panetta told the audience, “You have made me proud
UPDATE: Rep. Paul Ryan and Sen. Patty Murray unveiled a budget proposal Tuesday night. The proposal, which has yet to be voted on, busts through sequester caps, setting FY 2014 spending at $1.014 trillion — billions beyond the levels mandated by sequester. The proposal contains no mention of pension reform. Conservatives had better start paying attention to the budget battle raging in Washington: If things go south — and they are poised to do just that — the tea party’s single greatest policy victory, the sequester, could be destroyed. And worse yet, it could be destroyed in exchange for nothing. The sequester
Approval of ObamaCare in the United States has risen eight percentage points in the last month, according to a new poll. Thirty-nine percent of people now approve of the law, according to a CBS News/New York Times poll released Tuesday evening. Half of the public, by contrast, disapproves of ObamaCare, the poll found. Nearly 60 percent say they don’t think the sign-up process for ObamaCare is going well, but more than one-third say it’s improving. These figures come in just ten days after the administration touted the repaired federal portal for the insurance, HealthCare.gov. Obama’s general job approval rating has increased to 42 percent,
Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.), in an appearance on MSNBC´s "PoliticsNation" on Friday, condemned former Sen. Rick Santorum´s comments comparing Nelson Mandela´s fight against apartheid to the fight against Obamacare as "shameful." "And actually if I was going to make a comparison, I would make the opposite comparison, because I think the struggle for justice, which Nelson Mandela led for so many years is similar as the struggle for the health care as a right for people in the richest country in the world, and so the idea that they would make that comparison in the opposite way is just tragic,"
According to a new Rasmussen Report, the majority of Americans do not believe the deportation of illegal immigrants living in the United States is aggressive enough. More than 20 House Democrats last week urged President Obama to halt the deportation of illegal immigrants until Congress passes a comprehensive immigration reform plan, but voters by a two-to-one margin oppose that idea. Most already think the federal government is not vigilant enough in deporting those who are in this country illegally. Only 29% of Likely U.S. Voters think the government should stop deporting illegal immigrants until Congress passes an immigration reform plan.
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
US President Barack Obama may have moved the masses attending Nelson Mandela’s memorial service with his stirring eulogy, but it was his grinning "selfie" with the Danish and British premiers that set social networks abuzz. In a candid moment captured by a photographer, Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt can be seen holding up her smartphone, with Obama lending a helping hand, as they pose for a picture with David Cameron, all three of them smiling broadly in their seats at Soweto’s World Cup stadium.(Snip)Mashable, the news and technology website, ran the photograph under the headline: ‘‘Dear Obama: Funerals are no place
Johannesburg - A man who provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela´s memorial service, attended by scores of heads of state, was a "fake," the national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa said on Tuesday. Asked about the claim by The Associated Press, South Africa´s government said it was preparing a statement. Three sign language experts said the man was not signing in South African or American sign languages. South African sign language covers all of the country´s 11 official languages, according to the federation. It wasn´t immediately clear if the unidentified man was using a
On his way to the podium at the memorial ceremony for former South African president Nelson Mandela, President Obama walked down the line of dignitaries, greeting other leaders there to pay their respects. Among the hands shaken: that of Cuban leader Raul Castro. Obama neither made a special effort to shake Castro’s hand nor to avoid him. A snub might have been awkward: In his speech, Obama praised Mandela’s “greatest gift” as “his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) snapped at conservative groups that have come out in opposition to the budget deal reached Wednesday between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). "They´re using the American people for their own purposes. This is ridiculous," Boehner said at a press conference with other members of House Republican leadership on Wednesday. Over the past few days, a number of conservative groups have blasted the deal because it sets discretionary spending levels in the budget higher than previous levels under sequestration. In the past three days, the influential Heritage Action, Club for Growth, Americans
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, “Stay down, f----t!”
A “presidential selfie” featuring President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service began making the rounds this morning, but it’s the person not included in the frame who caught everyone’s attention: As anyone with two eyes and a Twitter account has noticed, Michelle Obama does not appear amused. Of course, though a picture says a thousand words, not all of those words are necessarily true. FLOTUS might not have even known the photo was taking place. Or she could disapprove of funeral selfies. Either way.
