HOUSTON — Authorities were investigating an attempted robbery scene in north Texas on Thursday where two Oklahoma teenagers were found fatally shot — possibly by self-inflicted gunshots — and the local sheriff praised the armed homeowner who fired on the suspected intruders. Kenneth Chaffin, 17, and Dillon King, 18 — both of Bethel Acres, Okla. — died Wednesday of what appeared to be self-inflicted gunshot wounds outside of a house in rural north Texas after exchanging gunfire with the owner, investigators in Texas and Oklahoma told the Associated Press. Something really does not pass the smell test. They stole a truck, 17 guns, 200 rounds of ammo and some pills in OK, then went to Texas to rob a house? Then they shoot themselves after a confrontation with an armed homeowner? Huh?
Who is this, Dummy and Clyde?

I agree there must be more to this. Maypearl is a tiny little wide place in the road, very little happens there. It´s not a place where homeowners would be targeted for robbery. However, that area is full of meth labs, tucked away in garages and mobile homes. There´s more to it, I guarantee.

Do the gun grabbers in congress, Colorado, Californicate, and other such states know about this: a gun owner defending himself, his wife, and their property?

This is basically Hennessy-Fiske´s rewrite of info from the Associated Press.

Sounds as though they had crime on their minds, planning to start with a housewife alone in her rural home. When her husband showed up and bullets began flying their way, hitting one, they became a couple of panicked - and possibly drugged up - kids. The idea of prison time could do that to them.

Article says the one thug was shot several times, probably was dying or at least thought he was and shot himself. Possible the other one shot him - who knows, asked to do it by the wounded one? Maybe the unwounded one ´helps´ his friend then ´can´t go on´ and off´s himself. Lots of varations, who cares? Choices have consequences.

I like a story with a happy ending. Good guys are OK, bad guys are dead. Cost to taxpayers near zero.

Sheesh! The kids had 17 guns and 2,000 rounds of ammo! Well, it is turkey season here in Texas, but their having the prescription drugs (wonder what they were) certainly makes this sound like something else might have been in play. I think there was something more to Kenneth & Dillon´s Excellent Adventure.
I agree with another poster in that Maypearl is not exactly a vacation destination.

Does anybody else find it odd that the names are not being released but there is a photo and name of one of the teens ?

Seems like they took the vehicle and guns from one of the parents.

Again, no mention of their parents reaction. More feral youth.

The names have been released (one surname was Dillon, but I´ve forgotten the other); the delay was because the second kid was never reported missing by his family.

There´s still no further explanation--as far as I can find--of why they did what they did.

One of them "stole" the truck and most of the guns/ammo from his father. Included in the guns were a couple of .22´s so their was probably a brick or two of .22 shells -- 500 per box. That´s the way any serious shooter usually buys them. Maypearl is on I-95W, the interstate between Ft.Worth/Dallas and Austin - San Antonio - Mexican border.

SANTA FE, N.M. —A national political magazine has released secret audio recordings of Gov. Susana Martinez, and it’s causing quite a reaction both here in New Mexico as well as across the country.Mother Jones penned an article recently that asked if Martinez was the next Sarah Palin. The article featured several recordings of the governor. Some believe what Martinez is heard saying could jeopardize her political aspirations. The recordings were published by Mother Jones, who said they’re from four years ago. The reporter said his article sheds light on a side of Martinez the public has never seen before, a

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

Vice President Joe Biden really did get ahead of President Barack Obama on accepting gay marriage in 2012 — and the White House really wasn’t happy about it, despite the two leaders’ many attempts to claim otherwise. That’s the story laid out in Jo Becker’s new book, “Forcing the Spring,” which documents the past few years of successful efforts to expand the legalization of gay marriage, according to an advance copy obtained by POLITICO. Speculation that Biden’s comments on “Meet the Press” in May 2012 were meant as a trial balloon, Becker writes, came from people “not privy to the

In an open letter to President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, Carter and the nine other Nobel Peace Prize winners bluntly warned the leaders: “Your decision on the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline will define your climate legacy.” The missive, published as an advertisement in Politico, represents the first time Carter has taken a position on the $5.4 billion project and makes him the first former president to come

President Obama said Wednesday that Russia realizes the U.S. military is “significantly superior” to its own and does not want war with the United States. Asked in an interview with CBS News about a Russian fighter buzzing a U.S. Navy ship in the Black Sea on Saturday, Obama said, “They’re not interested in any kind of military confrontation with us, understanding that our conventional forces are significantly superior to the Russians.” Obama accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of being behind uprisings in Ukraine in which government buildings have been taken over. AUSTIN, Tex. — The last nine months of Rick Perry’s tenure as the longest-serving governor of Texas were supposed to be a political victory lap. Greg Abbott, the Republican state attorney general, and Wendy Davis, the Democratic state senator, both of whom are vying to replace Mr. Perry, have been sparring across Texas. Meanwhile Mr. Perry has been traveling the country and the world promoting the robust Texas economy and bolstering his national profile as he considers another run for president in 2016. GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL BASE—Victims of the 9/11 terror attacks expressed shock that the FBI may be meddling in the hearings here, and some speculated that it is part of an effort by the Obama administration to completely derail the hearings and force them into federal court stateside. Families of those killed in the 9/11 terror attacks traveled here with the intent of watching their family members’ accused killers face justice. Indeed Kelly all but genuflected in front of this woman. Kept her on thru

Casual marijuana use may come with some not-so-casual side effects. For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development. Dr. Hans Breiter, co-senior study author, said he was inspired to look at the effects of casual

People love that Scottish brogue so much, they don’t mind that he has it when he plays Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, an immortal Spaniard in Highlander. The guy even won an Oscar for playing an Irish cop with a Scottish accent. Talk about sexist double standards: Meryl Streep has to master foreign dialects to get her golden statuettes. Toddlers show racial bias when picking playmates, a study reveals. They also take account of how fairly others behave. Researchers tested the reaction of white 15-month-olds as toys were distributed. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. And the babies are more likely to help those who share the same ethnicity, which is known as
