Austin Finds Its
Great White Defendant

Gabrielle Nestande, a former legislative aide in the Texas House of Representatives, faced a public-relations nightmare when standing trial for drunken driving and a fatal hit-and-run in Austin, Texas. The 25-year-old was privileged, wealthy, and a Republican. Blonde and preppy looking, the Baylor University graduate thus became red meat for the trial-watching mob and prosecutors in Austin -- a politically liberal mecca in a conservative red state. She became, in Tom Wolfe´s words from Bonfire of the Vanities, Austin´s own Great White Defendant. Many wanted the native Californian´s head because of who she was

There are many privileged that walk in Austin. There was a young man who killed his teacher at Murchison Junior High School and because his Daddy was high up in LBJ´s regime, he got a pass and walked, it was premeditated and planned out. There are many Demorat Brats who do the same thing the young lady did and walked. Is it right? No but even the righteous and all knowing police chief knows it is all about politics...even his statistics prove the young Hispanic male causes the most damage and he gets a pass in the sanctuary city of Austin.

It was not addiction to alcohol that killed the girl, it was addiction to a damned cell phone! Outlaw even touching them while you are driving. There is no one alive who is immune to the distraction caused by cell phones.

Sad verdict all around. And the young woman got the punishment she deserved.

But Austin has a history of severe prosecution of BWR offenses ... that´s Breathing While Republican.

a hit and run that killed a girl? I think she got off way too light.

People who run from an accident usually do it so that there´s no hard evidence of drunkenness. That´s a big part of the reason that hit and runs are treated so harshly.

They raise the point of the mexican who also got probation - I think he should have gotten jail, too, but nothing says that he was charged with hit and run.

I have no idea of the facts of this case, although I´ve read the article that talked about everything EXCEPT the facts. I have no sympathy for drunk drivers, or for hit/run drivers. However, I have one question:

What was the victim wearing and where was she walking -- precisely. Every night, when coming home from work, I encounter pedestrians ambling along the road, in dark clothing, remarkably unaware that they cannot be seen. Both myself and my husband have nearly hit pedestrians, and we were both stone cold sober and not talking on the cell phone. People are amazingly blase about what they are wearing when walking along the road where there are no sidewalks.

1. Don´t wear black.
2. Walk on the shoulder, not the pavement.
3. Wear reflective clothing.
4. Carry a flashlight. Swing it around.
5. Walk facing the traffic.
6. Be ready to jump into the ditch if the oncoming driver appears that they don´t see you. They may not be able to.

If you want to kill someone, Travis County, TX (home of uber-lieberal Austin) is the place to do it. If you have any connections at all (like this woman), or are in any ´´minority´´ group, count on a slap on the wrist at worse.

Just don´t make the mistake of doing your crime in Williamson County, just north of Austin. They are hard as rock there. She would be doing 20 years if she did this hit-and-run in Williamson County...

#6 - Don´t make the mistake of *being* in Williamson County. After the drunk sheriff arrests you the prosecutor will withhold exculpatory evidence.

I drive through that neighbourhood regularly.
The whole street is barely 40ft wide w/ half of it given to parking and bike.
Limit is 35 but the cars are often going 50+...

The bike lane on the West side of that street is barely 5ft wide but there´s a double wide 12ft bike+parking lane on the East side AND a paved sidewalk.

Still can´t figure out why the victim had crossed over to walk in the narrow bike lane on the West side of the street when both her apt. and the her friend´s house are (according to the reports) due East from where the accident happened. It might have made some sense if one of the location is due West. But, like #5 said, it´s still stupid.

BTW, Austin isn´t COMPLETELY liberal.
The breakdown is about 55%Dem/40%Rep/5%Lib
but it doesn´t help when the Unelected Fascists In Charge are constantly making up $&!# and ignoring directives from the voters.

Remember president Obama´s first pitch of the MLB 2010 season at the Washington Nationals ballpark? It sailed towards the home team dugout. While he couldn´t throw a baseball within ten feet of home plate -- even if it took a double bounce on the way in -- Obama has tossed perfect incendiary strikes inside his own clubhouse, sending his entire team to the disabled list, demoted to the minor leagues, or banned from the game for life. In fact Obama´s entire liberal-progressive league has forfeited the rest of the season -- and then some.

Hey, liberals! Obama thinks you are stupid. Yeah, he really does. He knew Benghazi was terrorism before he didn´t know it was terrorism. Addressing a question about Benghazi in his press conference Monday, May 13, 2013, Obama´s "logic" really made an impression: "The Day after it happened I acknowledged that this was an act of terrorism." What person ever says what he really knows at a funeral? Eulogies bearing little or no resemblance to the deceased or to the facts are trotted out by people who are often bad actors, who though they know better, lie anyway. It´s almost acceptable behavior. But any truth about the deaths of U.S. Ambassador Christ Stevens and three other Americans appears to have been put six feet under as far as our current administration is concerned. Somewhere, Andrew Breitbart is smiling. You can almost see the metaphorical light bulbs going on in bubbles over the heads of liberal media figures. Obama loyalists are expressing outrage at the subpoenaing of the phone records of 20 lines serving over a hundred AP reporters. The timing could not be better.(snip) the AP scandal´s significance entirely lies with its effect on the media´s mindset on Obama. They have been cheerleading for him for six years,

Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell was convicted yesterday on three counts of first-degree murder, not to mention a slew of other charges, including involuntary manslaughter (for the death of 41-year-old Karnamaya Mongar), infanticide, and abortions past Pennsylvania´s legal limit. (snip)in a culture dominated by the 24-hour news cycle, it will be easy for Americans to consider the abortion issue closed with the Gosnell verdict. The pro-life movement´s challenge, as [Lila] Rose says, is to keep the American people focused on how common Gosnell-like practices are in the abortion industry, and on all the unsung victims abortion

Benghazi and Obama´s Legitimacy

Did Barack Obama in effect steal the election in 2012? It is impossible to know, of course, how matters would have played it if Americans had been told the truth about Benghazi. And what if the IRS had not hobbled conservative nonprofits (and therefore the movement) with extra scrutiny and consequent delay and expenses? But there can be no doubt that Obama helped himself by being able to claim that Al Qaeda was "on the run" and with an assist from Candy Crowley make Mitt Romney look bad on when he criticized Obama´s anti-terror policies.

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.

There’s really no reason for the press to suggest that the recent slew of scandals involving the Obama administration — Benghazi, the AP phone-record seizure, the snooping in James Rosen’s e-mail, the IRS’s targeting of conservative groups, and so on — are a confusing jumble. There is a very clear thread running through all of the administration’s actions: The U.S. deputy chief of mission in Libya, Gregory Hicks, says that he was told not to speak to a member of Congress about Benghazi without a State Department lawyer present, that he received a phone call from Hillary Clinton’s
