| POLITICO’s “Behind the Curtain” column last night quoted Bob Woodward as saying that a senior White House official has told him in an email he would “regret” questioning White House statements on the origins of sequestration. The official in question is Gene Sperling, economic adviser to the president. The White House has since pushed back, saying the exchange was far more innocuous than Woodward claims. We have obtained, exclusively, the exchange. Here it is: From Gene Sperling to Bob Woodward on Feb. 22, 2013 -Bob: I apologize for raising my voice in our conversation today. My bad.

Having read the email correspondence between these two men, it appears to me that they are actually very close acquaintances, if not friends. The Dems will read this and say that Sperling´s words can´t possibly constitute a threat. Woodward hardly comes off here as objective, IMO. Ramona (the Pest)

"My bad." ?!? No self-respecting, grown up man says this to another man. Sperling always has been and always will be a cold-blooded reptile.

I don´t see anything approaching a threat to be honest. And in reading Woodward´s response neither did he.

For Woodward or others to portray this as a threat is misleading. Shame on Woodward! And shame on Drudge and others who portrayed it as such.

You have to give Woodward credit for pointing out that sequester was 0bama´s idea in the first place. The media have allowed 0bama to lie and change stories to suit his needs, and most people are so ignorant they believe him. Good for Bob Woodward for stating the truth and not buckling when the Thugs threaten his existence. The 0bama administration have been ruthless with their actions.

Woodward is speaking the truth and Obama and his toadies are lying. So when Sperling tells Woodward ´he will regret´ what he is reporting what, exactly, is that if not a threat? Why would Woodward regret it?

I admit to enjoying Woodward´s calling out of Obama and Sperling. But,I will always remember that Woodward was able to cobble together a book from his lengthy "interviews" and "conversations", revealing all kinds of damaging details, with a mostly comatose William Casey. I didn´t believe it then and it´s hard to believe him these days.

Some of you people lack an understanding of a subtle threat coming out of the White House. This was not a bar fight, with loud and clear threats - it was a clear, yet veiled threat coming from a top admininstration official. And it was directed at a reporter who needs to maintain contacts and off the record information from the white house if he is to do his job of reporting. What seems to be clear to me is that this white house, having stolen a second term for the president, may be swirling in an eddy of hubris, much like the nixon white house in nixon´s second term. The difference between nixon and the current president, however, is that nixon loved his country.

Thugs??? Tell it to the Hillary campaign folks who got pushed around in the 2008 Iowa caucuses by these thugs. Then tell it to the GM and Chrysler bond holders, and then... etc, etc, etc. The record is long and the record is clear. The Obama thugocracy is absolutely no surprise to any informed person. It´s the Chicago Way, after all.

Bob has been breaking news for a long time and knows what he is doing. He was doing his thing when Obama was still playing with marbles. Obama and team have hit upon a REAL journalist - the likes of which Chicago politicians (and gang) are no match.

Well said #9. As the old(political) saying goes....
Never say something out loud you can whisper. Never whisper something you can make understood by a nod. Never nod something that should be understood by a wink. Never wink something that should be UNDESTOOD innately.
The Right will lose as long as the play by the Marquis of Queensbury rules.
The Left fights trench warfare.

The words, "you will regret", could be construed in the context of the state of one´s professional integrity, not just as a threat. For example, "Bob, you will regret this, because, in the end, you will appear foolish to have taken the position that you have."
Also, Jonah Goldberg doesn´t see it as a threat either. Article a few up from this one.

There was also a phone conversation in which Sperling raised his voice. This email was his apology.

On the other hand, Woodward lives for juicy WH insider gossips through his contacts. So he may not want to jeopardize his access.

Yes, #14, because that statement coming from a person who is buddy buddy with the man who runs the: IRS, DHS, FBI, CIA, The Media(oops, that´s suposed to be secret)EPA ad infinitum(kinda our problem) means nothing but ´hey, I am worried about your image."
It was the worst kind of threat. One that forces the threatened to imagine what is forthcoming.

On Melissa Harris-Perry Saturday morning, David Cay Johnston, an investigative reporter and professor at Syracuse University College of Law, lambasted the Obama Administration as hermetically sealed toward journalists, even in comparison to the Bush and Reagan administrations. Following a discussion on the President’s drone speech, in which the panel agreed that while drones are here to stay, the true problem is the lack of visibility and accountability into their use, Johnston expanded the point to a larger condemnation of the White House’s lack of transparency.

The emergency operating room where doctors tried to save President Kennedy´s life after he was shot has been broken into pieces and covertly stored in crates for years, guarded as if it were a state secret. As the 50th anniversary in November of the President´s assassination nears, an investigative team from local Dallas station WFAA went digging for the exact location of the broken tiles and medical equipment used on that fateful day. They found that the room was formally destroyed in 1972 when Parkland Hospital was going through an expansion and Trauma Room 1 had to be demolished.

CRAWFORD —Former President George W. Bush needed little help to blaze a trail Friday for 14 veterans mountain biking with him through open prairies, slick ravines and steep canyons. That’s because he brought the third annual Warrior 100K Ride — a three-day mountain biking trek to honor service members injured in Afghanistan and Iraq — to the well-worn paths at his Prairie Chapel Ranch outside of Waco. But even as Bush welcomed the wounded warriors to his home to thank them for their service, he made clear that his mission to help veterans extends well beyond the trails

Every Memorial Day, when I run into the grocery store to pick up those last minute items for the three day weekend’s picnic, I’m met with members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) selling their poppies. We cherish, too, the poppy red/ that grows on fields where valor led; It seems to signal to the skies/that blood of heroes never dies-- “We Shall Keep the Faith” by Moina Michael -I remember as a kid that it was very common to see paper poppies being sold around Memorial Day. You could even go to the post office and purchase one

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose

On Wednesday, Drummer Lee Rigby of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, a man who had served Queen and country honorably in the hell of Helmand Province in Afghanistan, emerged from his barracks on Wellington Street, named after the Duke thereof, in southeast London. Minutes later, he was hacked to death in broad daylight and in full view of onlookers by two men with machetes who crowed "Allahu Akbar!" as they dumped his carcass in the middle of the street like so much roadkill. As grotesque as this act of savagery was, the aftermath was even more unsettling

Washington rumor has it that Obama wants to be U.N. Secretary General. There are several reasons that make that likely, and if it´s true, it throws new light on a lot of Obama´s oddities -- including his Royalty Bows, his Apology Tours, his Muslim Sellout, and the Benghazi Cover-Up. But first -- why would Obama be planning to become the chief of the U.N. before he has even finished his second term?

MARK LEVIN: So why didn´t Chairman Issa hold an investigative hearing a year ago? Why didn´t Chairman Camp, all Republicans, hold an investigative hearing a year ago, and all the other tripping over themselves right now? I´ll tell you why. Because the establishment Republicans, the RINO Republicans, despise the Tea Party. They despise the conservative movement. We exist to be managed, to be shuttled to the polling place, to vote for their candidates. The Karl Roves of the world, and all the rest of them. They fight us in the primaries, they fight us at the grassroots.

Fox News chief Roger Ailes has sent a memo to his subordinates at the leading cable news network. He sent this memo to his staff today in connection with the federal investigation into an alleged leak to Fox News reporter James Rosen, a story that the Washington Post’s Ann E. Marimow broke earlier this week. The memo’s a masterpiece, too. For all those who wonder what it is about Ailes that endears his people to him — and that makes him such a good interviewee for any media reporter lucky enough to get an audience
