RedState’s Erick Erickson Hits
Conservative Media For ‘Failing To
Advance Ideas,’ Constant Outrage

The “conservative media is failing to advance ideas and stories,” RedState editor Erick Erickson asserted on Wednesday. Noting that the echo in the chamber has gotten too loud, Erickson urged conservatives to step away from the outrage and focus instead on integrity in reporting. “Conservatives are trying so hard to highlight controversies, no matter how trivial, we have forgotten the basics of reporting: W5 + H as I learned in grade school, also known as who, what, where, when, why, and how,” he wrote. “We need to establish a baseline for integrity in

Comments:
Uh, call me crazy, but just where is the "conservative media" supposed to advance their stories? Other than Fox they get mocked and ridiculed if they even go on CNN or heaven forbid MessNBC. I think Breitbart does a great job of reporting facts without being outraged as he states.

There is a difference between the conservative media (Breitbart) and the Republican Establishment public relations publications(National Review).

I agree Poster 2. He´s now on CNN and it´s rubbing off. I heard him on the radio a while ago, subbing for someone and he had nothing nice to say about any Republicans. I don´t care for him and am disappointed in his approach. I used to read redstate.com but not any more. Too snarky.

FTA "Erickson cited the “Obamaphone” story as an example, explaining that while some conservatives aim for basic facts, they end up getting stuck on talking points. "

What was wrong with the Obamaphone story? Holy mackerel, the Obamaphone lady is a typical Obama voter. We are in a serious financial crisis, and Obama is taking ships out of the Middle East instead of cutting back on giving free phones to people.

Tell us how you really feel, Joe Scarborough. The Morning Joe co-host devoted a segment on Wednesday to the Justice Department going after leaks — particularly the recently reported case involving Fox News. Scarborough railed against the Obama administration’s approach, charging that the actions were more damning because they’re aimed at “the opposition.” Scarborough questioned how this case is any different from the Pentagon papers, or the Cold War, etc. What makes President Obama think he’s any different? As Cokie Roberts responded to that thought, Scarborough couldn’t help but come back to a point

Who is Judy Faulkner? Chances are, you don´t know her — but her politically connected, taxpayer-subsidized electronic medical records company may very well know you. Top Obama donor and billionaire Faulkner is founder and CEO of Epic Systems, which will soon store almost half of all Americans´ health information. If the crony odor and the potential for abuse that this "epic" arrangement poses don´t chill your bones, you ain´t paying attention. As I first noted last year before the IRS witch hunts and DOJ journalist snooping scandals broke out, Obama´s federal electronic medical records (EMR) mandate

What did the White House know about the IRS targeting conservative groups and when did it know it? Crucial evidence needed to develop an accurate answer to that question would include the records of any communications that went back and forth between the IRS and the White House on the topic. In a May 14 letter signed by Chairman Dave Camp and Ranking Member Sander Levin, the House Ways and Means Committee demanded precisely those records from the IRS. In the same letter, the committee also demanded the records of any communications between IRS and the Treasury

The press-punishing, speech-chilling, and unabashedly overreaching actions by the Obama administration against the Associated Press and Fox News Channel’s James Rosen lay bare the essential dynamic between any president and a press that is always more prone to being lapdogs than watchdogs: The president feeds or punishes them as he sees fit, while chanting a bogus rosary about “national security.” In the case of the AP, the Obama administration secretly subpoenaed phone-call logs and other information from an office in which over 100 journalists worked. Officials were on the hunt for the sources that cooperated

With the decision to label a Fox News television reporter a possible “co-conspirator” in a criminal investigation of a news leak, the Obama administration has moved beyond protecting government secrets to threatening fundamental freedoms of the press to gather news. The latest reported episode involves James Rosen, the chief Washington correspondent for Fox News. In 2009, Mr. Rosen reported on FoxNews.com that North Korea planned to launch a missile in response to the condemnation of its nuclear tests by the United Nations Security Council. The Justice Department investigated the source of the article and later indicted

As I noted earlier today, the government’s treatment of Fox News reporter James Rosen betrayed the Obama administration’s unhinged obsession with targeting journalists. But as troubling as that is, the problem goes deeper than the attempt by the Department of Justice to eviscerate the First Amendment. The news that one of the reporters who had been aggressively covering the Benghazi scandal had her computer tampered with should alarm more than just her fellow scribes. So, too, should the increasingly shrill attacks from the president’s cheering section on other journalists who have been following the stories about government misconduct.

Newly uncovered court documents show the Justice Department seized phone records associated with several Fox News lines as part of a leak investigation -- a revelation that comes as the White House Correspondents´ Association spoke out against the administration´s monitoring of reporters. Documents from October 2011 appear to show exchanges that match the specific locations of Fox News´ White House, Pentagon, State Department and other operations. The last four digits of each of the phone numbers listed are redacted in the government filing so it is impossible to know the full numbers. Meanwhile, the Correspondents´ Association spoke out

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?" Judge Andrew Napolitano explained that the question about guns comes out of a post-Sandy Hook executive order by President Obama, but it will be required under Obamacare. Varney expressed amazement

While many Americans were tuned into news coverage of the massive damage from tornadoes ravaging the state of Oklahoma, Rhode Island Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse took to the Senate floor to rail against his Republican colleagues for denying the theory of anthropogenic global warming. Whitehouse spent 15 minutes chastising GOP senators and justified his remarks by alluding to states that seek federal assistance in the wake of natural disasters. “So, you may have a question for me,” Whitehouse said. “Why do you care?
