N.Y. gun law mandates
magazines that don´t exist

ROCHESTER — Starting April 15, New York will have the smallest gun magazine limit in the country, and all signs indicate no gun makers have plans to accommodate it. Gun manufacturers have never had a reason to make a magazine with fewer than 10 rounds, because no state required it until now. And, as far as local gun dealers and the Democrat and Chronicle have been able to determine, there are no manufacturers planning to make seven-round magazines. This means that in less than two months, gun dealers such as Paul Martin, owner of Pro-Gun Services in Victor…

Comments:
This is one of the biggest, among many, Constitutional weak points of Maximum Leader Cuomo´s edict - it essentially bans at least 90% of the semiautomatic firearms sold in the country - directly thumbing his nose at the Supreme Court´s decisions in Heller and McDonald which state clearly that firearms commonly used could NOT be prohibited from ownership and use by law abiding citizens.

I sincerely hope the gun-grabbers keep the 7-round limit. It will make this treachery all that much easier to overturn.

Cuomo skipped free after his tenure as Clinton´s HUD secretary, and thus emboldened, continues his destructive ways.

Would that the GOP were even a fraction as effective as Democrats at removing political opponents from the playing field. Republicans let flag-waving criminals slide, Dems marginalize people with whom they simply disagree.

This has an extremely simple solution. Gun stores can simply sell the semi-automatic gun without any magazines. Leave that up to the purchaser to acquirer. At least then the merchant will have something to sell.

Did NY ever change the law so that the paramilitaries can use assault rifles?

#1 I, like you keep asking...........

"Where´s the HUD money, Andrew????"

Billions missing, and he not only walks free, he gets elected by demonrats!!

So if you already have a 10 round magazine (not a ´clip´, Andrew), you can only load seven rounds in it. I am sure the gangbangers will comply with that one. We are ruled by ignorant, inept fools who are so far removed from everyday life that it is destroying this nation day by day.

Not so!! The U.S. military used the MDL 1911A1, semi-automatic pistol for over 70 years. The 1911 is still a favorite with civilian shooters and millions are sold every year. the standard magazine for this pistol for over 70 years has held exactly 7 rounds. There are other standard semi-auto pistol magazines that hold 7 rounds or less.

This is nonsense. There are plenty of AR15 five round magazines because that´s the limit for hunters. There are just as many ten round magazines blocked down to five rounds. That´s all you have to do to make a seven round magazine -- take a ten round mag and block it. Manufacturers won´t make seven round mags for the same reason they don´t make one, two, three, four, six, eight, or nine round mags. Conservative columnists have totally lost it.

#7, a fan of the Thug Gov. This law is short term effective for harassing legal gun owners and gun businesses, but the sheeple in this state don´t care. So what if the fiat decree by the Thug made most of the police in this state criminals?

It takes a real moron/liberal to actually think 7 rounds vs 10 rounds for legal magazines is going to stop inner city criminals from killing each other. Sheeple are gleeful that they criminalized legal gun owners. That´s the only point of this law, but the cancer of NYC is fine with a dictator/mayor telling them what they can eat and drink, so no real surprise.

Reply 9 - Posted by: GOPJihad, 2/27/2013 6:15:21 PM     (No. 9199682)

Magazines are blocked to 5 rounds ONLY for hunting. Five rounds are not to be relied upon for self defense or for use during times of social unrest (riots, looting, etc.). If they were, police would not have switched overwhelmingly to 15 round capacity magazines for their pistols and 30-rd magazines for their rifles.

Further, when someone uses a firearm to defend themselves and their families - unlike police officers - they are not wearing a utility belt with two spare magazines within easy reach. They are not monitored by radio and GPS. They do not have an armed partner watching their back. They do not have the luxury of being warned of the danger they are about to be confronted with. They are not wearing body armor. They do not have the big blue swarm coming to save them when they are actively engaged with a violent felon.

In fact, citizens are usually using that firearm to fend off multiple assailants that tend to strike with the element of surprise, frequently at night and frequently at close quarters. A citizen defending themselves, their home and their families doesn´t have armed backup and two spare 15-rd magazines on their hip and at the ready.

If someone wants to limit their defense to 5-7 rounds - let that be their choice, and let the governor, president, mayor, etc. that demand such be similarly protected. But do not limit the means of the law-abiding to defend against those that respect no law.

I hope the mag manufacturers decide to only sell 7 round mags to Law enforcement in NY

Thanks for the thug comment. But you´re all missing my points. First, it´s simply wrong to say, as the article does, that "manufacturers have never had a reason to make a magazine with fewer than 10 rounds." It´s a FACT that 5 round magazines are in production today. Second, it´s pointless to worry that manufacturers won´t make seven round magazines when all they have to do is block the ten round mags that they already make. I didn´t make any claim about which mag was best for home defense or criminals killing each other or anything else. This has nothing to do with gun control being right or wrong (I think it´s wrong), but with the FACTS of what magazine makers are doing and can do.

Sheriffs: Cuomo Asked for Silence
Albany Times Union (Albany, NY), by Jimmy Vielkind    Original Article

The sheriffs thought they were being summoned to the Capitol to discuss ideas for changes to New York´s gun control law, the SAFE Act. Instead, Gov. Andrew Cuomo told them to keep quiet. Opposition to the new law has simmered in upstate areas since Cuomo signed the law in January. Many county sheriffs oppose it, particularly its expanded definition of banned assault weapons, and have spoken out around the state. In January, the New York State Sheriffs´ Association wrote Cuomo with an analysis, and later suggested tweaks.

AMHERST, N.Y. - An Amherst man who had his guns taken away by the state is speaking out after the state admitted it made a mistake by suspending his pistol permit. David Lewis is the man State Police deemed so mentally ill he was unfit to own a gun. They recommended to a state judge that the 34-year-old librarian´s pistol permit be suspended and the judge signed the order. (*SNIP*) Tresmond also claims State Police have lined up a special unit to circumvent federal HIPAA laws to pry into gun owners´ medical records, which State Police deny.

AMHERST, N.Y. - State Police forced an Amherst man to turn in his guns after suspending his pistol permit over anti-anxiety medication. But now they say it was all a misunderstanding. Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs said, "Today, we all look like fools." "David," a 34-year-old college librarian, recently had his pistol permit taken away. Erie County´s Licensing Officer, Supreme Court Justice William Boller, was following a recommendation from State Police that David´s permit be revoked because he used anti-anxiety medication in the past.

An orderly protest over the death of an armed 16-year-old turned into a riot in Brooklyn tonight after young people started lashing out at NYPD officers. Between 60 and 100 rioters gathered around Church and Snyder Ave. in East Flatbush and threw bottles and other debris at police, witnesses said, following a vigil for Kimani Gray, 16, who was shot dead by two plainclothes officers over the weekend. One person has been arrested, though no injuries have been reported. They were lashing out at the NYPD, who they believe are responsible for the teen’s death.

Court won´t reconsider Ill.
concealed carry ruling

CHICAGO — A federal appeals court won´t reconsider an earlier ruling that Illinois´ concealed carry ban is unconstitutional. A three-judge panel of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals struck down Illinois´ ban in December and gave lawmakers until June 8 to legalize the concealed carry of firearms. Attorney General Lisa Madigan asked for all 10 judges to review the decision, saying it conflicted with decisions by other federal appellate courts and goes beyond what the U.S. Supreme Court has held. Illinois is the only state in the nation that still has a ban in place.

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Newly obtained court documents “reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.” Reporter Ann Marimow began:

A senior adviser to President Obama mounted a combative defense of the administration on Sunday, saying the controversies enveloping the White House were the result of Republican lawmakers’ trying to “drag Washington into a swamp of partisan fishing expeditions, trumped-up hearings and false allegations.”The remarks came from Dan Pfeiffer, a member of the president’s inner circle, as he appeared on all five major Sunday morning talk shows in an effort to move the administration past what commentators have described as a “hell week” of controversy and missteps.
