Wonderful! Let´s make the cops even more reluctant to stop cars for speeding, drunk driving and auto theft because the driver is a protected minority. Perhaps blacks and Hispanics should be provided with a day-glow rear view mirror sign similar to the handicap signage that dangles from the mirror of grandad´s Buick. Or, a unique license plate with an image of Obama. These signs and plates would allow police to spend their time on serving tickets to the majority drivers rather than filling out federal forms that monitor arrests.

The slowness of the justice system and the obstinate refusal of public officials to make all the facts available allows people like Norton to project their own issues into the case and to use it for political purposes. There is no excuse for the incredible delay between the massive publication and sensationalizing of such crimes, and the release of facts and conclusions as to what actually happened. This happens with every single high profile crime.

We still do not know what happened in the Trayvon Martin case. Demagogues have a free hand to make up whatever narratives serve their purpose without fear of factual correction if the facts are otherwise than they claim. This is extremely damaging to the social fabric. I am not sure whose responsibility it is to do something about this -elected officials, it would seem- but someone needs to address the problem. It is not going away. There will be more such incidents, more grandstanding, more fantasy, more projection of pet personal grudges and ideology into them - and as things now stand it will be years or even DECADES before the truth finally emerges. The "burn in" of false narratives does irreparable damage to society that is not undone or erased when, after many years, the whole story is made public.

Norton is just another dumb racist black who is either too dumb to understand the facts of the situation or is too unethical and racist to admit them

What this amounts to is a "Stick your head in the sand" bill.
