African-Americans face uphill HIV fight
The Record [Hackensack, NJ], by Mary Jo Layton

A 20-year-old diagnosed with HIV or AIDS today can expect to live 50 years, due to groundbreaking advances in treatment since the discovery of the virus 30 years ago. Despite the progress, troubling trends remain: 47,500 new cases of HIV infection are diagnosed each year in the U.S. And in the African-American community, the statistics are even more grim: The virus continues to strike a disproportionate number of blacks, and their death rates are higher than other ethnic groups. In New Jersey, African-Americans make up 14 percent of the population but constitute 53 percent of the people

Comments:
New infections run about triple the annual "gun" deaths in the US, and thanks to the Down Low and prison cultures, black women are 20 times more likely than white women to be infected.

So, we conclude that AIDS is racist and Emperor Zero does not care about his own kind (closeted or black, take your pick).

The virus doesn´t "strike" a person, like a bolt of lightning might strike. A person CONTRACTS the virus, through an action. They make it sound like a person is unlucky rather than doing something that has a price.

Somehow I knew blacks would be hit the hardest.

I swear to God if there was a story about a shortage of blond hair for wigs, the media would report that blacks would be hit the hardest.

Do these dummies have any idea what this constant portrayal of blacks as victims has done to the black community? Do they care?

You´re right #2, the 4 large vectors in the world have been transfusions of infected blood, sharing needles, infected men having sex with young virgin girls, and infected men engaging in anal sex. So why is there a large disparity between black and white women? Are there any courageous black leaders out there who would like to take this on? I understand that by asking the question I will be defined as a racist and sexist.

That progress is partially responsible for the increase in new cases.

In those 50 remaining years, he/she can continue infecting others, thousands of others.

It´s OK to say African-Americans have a disproportionately high rate of HIV. Left alone this statement implies victimhood.
But start asking why the rates are so high, if irresponsible behavior is the root cause... Well, that must be racist...

Baltimore — An evening bike ride for a cyclist turned violent after he was attacked by a group of teenagers–and it’s caught on camera. Rochelle Ritchie has more. The man was wearing a helmet with one additional feature his attackers did not know about–a camera positioned on top. Now that video is in the hands of Baltimore City Police, who are combing through the images. It was a dark Saturday evening when Mike Bowman, 32, peddled his way down Guilford Avenue toward Hampden, where he was meeting friends. “There’s a bunch of kids that hang there at Lanvale. Before I

Four days after a downgraded credit rating, New Jersey has more bad financial news: Tax collections were once again short of Governor Christie’s already lowered expectations. This time, the gap was $145 million for March – a full 7 percent short of what Christie projected for the month, according to data released Monday by the state Department of Treasury. That means the Christie administration has to make up that gap with just three months left in the state’s fiscal year, time that includes the crucial income tax collection month of April. Already, the administration has said it cut nearly $700

Nashville, Tenn. — A bill seeking to allow Tennesseans to openly carry firearms in public without permits was overwhelmingly defeated a House subcommittee on Monday night. The House Finance Subcommittee voted 10-1 against the measure sponsored by Republican Rep. Micah Van Huss of Jonesborough, who later told reporters that he will abandon an effort to bypass committees and call the bill for a full floor vote. (Snip) The full Senate had passed its version of the bill on a 25-2 vote last week. The House panel voted down the bill after first adopting an amendment that stripped out projected $100,000

Neurosurgeon Ben Carson says the White House wanted him to apologize for “offending” President Obama after he famously delivered a conservative message at the National Prayer Breakfast last year. Carson, the former director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, recalls the events surrounding his 2013 speech in his new book, One Nation: What We Can All Do To Save America’s Future. The Daily Caller obtained an advance copy of the book, which is set for release May 20. “He did not appear to be hostile or angry,” Carson writes of Obama, “but within a matter of minutes after the conclusion of

President Obama inspired a generation of young people to support his historic election in 2008. And in 2012, despite the struggles of his first term, Mr. Obama still managed to win the support of a full 60% of voters age 18-29. But the man who once dreamed of being a transformative leader in the Reagan mold is inspiring few of those young people to follow his lead. "For all the talk about the movement that elected Mr. Obama, the more notable movement of Obama supporters has been away from politics. It appears that few of the young people who voted

On Saturday, I wrote about the standoff at Bundy Ranch. That post drew a remarkable amount of traffic, even though, as I wrote then, I had not quite decided what to make of the story. Since then, I have continued to study the facts and have drawn some conclusions. Here they are. First, it must be admitted that legally, Bundy doesn’t have a leg to stand on. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

Megyn Kelly’s "Kelly File" is a great news show. She’s incisive, informed and customarily handles the toughest guest with aplomb. But her lengthy interview of Facebook C.O.O. Sheryl Sandberg about her second book in the Lean In series Lean In: For Graduates was a head shaker. Amazing that she of all people allowed Sandberg to restring the same old, same old, shamed, and shopworn feminist myths about women and girls and then jangle it in front of her viewing audience like something new out of the box. Indeed Kelly all but genuflected in front of this woman. Kept her on thru

Chelsea Clinton says when people ask her these days whether she wants to go into politics, her answer isn’t an automatic “no.” The 34-year-old former first daughter told Fast Company in an interview published Monday, “for so long the answer was just a visceral no. Not because I had made any conscientious, deliberate decision, but since people had been asking for as long as literally I could remember, it was no." Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)
