| When man falls on hard times, what’s his best friend to do? A new donation-based program called Pet Food Stamps aims to provide food stamps for pets of low-income families and for food stamp recipients who otherwise could not afford to feed their pets, reported ABC affiliate KVIA in Las Cruces, N.M. Based in New York, the program is open to anyone in the United States. More than 45,000 pets have already been signed up in the past two weeks, according to the program’s founder and executive director Marc Okon. Once need and income is verified,

This is exactly how welfare should work. Charities, churches and people close to the person in need should handle it. No government involvement.

We always donate to the local Rescue groups. I´ve been suckered a few times, but all the folks I see are for real.

I think this is wonderful! As long as it is private, what is the problem? Poor people don´t usually go out and look for pets (well, some do), but most try to help out strays. That is how I ended up feeding 17 cats...trying to help them. 9 are a feral family that I got fixed. a few were ours and a few were abandoned pets that found us. It costs a lot and I have even had to take some to a vet, but they deserve it. They didn´t ask for people to be irresponsible and leave them.

#6, you and me both. Not so much now, but still not too strapped to help out an animal if I can.
If anyone wants to donate pet food, leashes, collars, pet beds, etc., try your local food pantry--they often accept such donations. I´ve also given cat food to our vet for the elderly clients she knows are in reduced circumstances.
Long as they keep these programs private, I´m all for them.

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election.
